This is so important! I am retired from Urology and know 3 women who died from sepsis of a uti. My grandmother at 81 died of a uti and she was a retired RN…she waited too long. It is imperative to discuss and be proactive!! 👏 Thank you!! 💞
I am 53, menopausal for 4 years, and on my 3rd UTI this year. Thankfully my local pharmacist is as reluctant as I am to give me antibiotics, but had no other advice except to take paracetamol, rest and drink even more water. I have been feeling rubbish for days. Have just ordered some DMannose and probiotics, and also starting on vaginal oestrogen again (had been prescribed it after surgery last year, but not used it for a while). Thank you for the advice
Finally on the right track. Thanks to empowering women like yourself. Gina is available over the counter in UK. Which is awesome. I am lucky in Toronto to have access to intrarosa, and it is covered by my health plan. I also use Dmannose and probiotic.
This is such important information to get out there. Thank you. My mother was a sufferer of UTIs for years, no doubt due to lack of oestrogen and in her nineties was ignored whilst convalescing in a local cottage hospital when she knew she had a new infection. Even though she knew and said she had another UTI, no one listened and to cut a long story short, she got sepsis and died… I have suffered from UTIs badly since the perimenopause period. Finally in my 60s I managed to get the GP to agree to me being prescribed Vagifem and from two infections a month, I now may only get two a year, which is bad enough. It’s time all GPs got up to speed with women needing HRT to prevent UTIs. I had to wait 20 years to be heard. Everything you say Liz is so true and extremely important.
Hi Liz. Thank you for this excellent discussion. Very informative. Just wanted to mention the ladies who have breast cancer and who have had to stop HRT suddenly when diagnosed or who are now going through a medical menopause brought about as a result of their treatment. Many are taking hormone therapy such as Letrazole or similar drugs which “seek and destroy” all traces of oestrogen in the body. Even if you use Vagifem the drugs reduce its efficacy. There is very little help out there for these women 😢
Hi Liz I'm in my very late 50's but around 25 years ago I was on a cycle of cystitis/uti's for several years - GP would give me a course of AB for an infection elsewhere in the body, the AB would give me thrush, in the end whenever he prescribed me AB he would also give me a prescription for canestan pessary & cream to save me having to return a week later, I used to be so sore down below that it I couldnt get comfortable and it could be painful to sit I was so sore and inflamed - I eventually saw a homeopathic practitioner who recommended a course of Uva Ursi and Goldenseal, it cleared up and broke the cycle - I rarely take AB now and if I do, they no longer have the effect they used to
Thanks for sharing Liz! super helpful! I went to see a urologist and she recommended DMannose. Please could you share which brand you use? There are so many out there and it confused me even more that I have not got round to buying it! So a tried and tested recommendation would be great!
Hi Liz, great information, thank you. I've just been prescribed Blissel vaginal gel in addition to my normal HRT after a UTI, but I am finding that the extra estrogen is making my restless legs worse than normal. Is that even possible ? Would you happen to have any knowledge about this condition Its definitely linked to hormones somehow because I had it really bad when pregnant
Hello! We have this article on our website on restless legs that you may find helpful lizearlewellbeing.com/healthy-living/guide-restless-legs-syndrome/ ❤️ Thanks, Rachel (social media manager)
Correlation isn’t causation. Also there are often patients who can’t take a medicating but it doesn’t mean we stop them for everyone. It’s about risk vs bens.
I was suffering from a UTI infections sometimes twice a year and usually needed antibiotics after trying natural remedies to fix without any results. It was horrible and would come on without warning. I was using HRT during that period but not all of . I finally got results when I was treated for a Thyroid condition that I believe I had for sometime but not showing in blood results and now that my Graves / Hyperthyroidism ( Thyroid disease ) is treated and under control I have not had a UTI infection since . I can only think that my Thyroid condition was upsetting my bladder and urinary tract and causing my UTI’s. Hope this helps some people as well . I am 68 and have had 3 children.

Great information and explained really well, also natural herbs work really well in such diseases so Planet Ayurveda's UTI care pack can be used.
We need to take a look!
