@@alexwilson1878 I’m with you. It was bad enough with the CGI garbage, and I’ll say the same for Star Wars, which I hold just as dear. I will fight tooth and nail against this being remade!
I played in the 20th & 25th Anniversary Orchestras which John Williams conducted & have been playing professionally for over 40 years & this music is without doubt is the best music for the best fim i have ever seen. After all these years it still brings a tear to my eye especially the last 15 minutes which i consider the best 15 minutes of music i have ever heard. John Williams absolutely raves about the musicians that recorded the original motion picture soundtrack. John is pushing 90 but his music wil still be played all around the world for centuries to come. A pure genius.
Lovely comment! What instrument do you play? I was a studio singer for 60 years, so privileged to have worked on several occasions with John. His music moves me to tears as well. And such a genuinely humble man!
@@dianalee3059 Percussion, mainly Timpani, Snare Drum, xylophone Merimbula, Glockenspiel. Music really is a medium to express your emotions & feelings.
Thank u for amazing contribution to music and I want to reiterate that those 15 minutes of music u mentioned is the reason why I wanted to be a film composer . To have this power to move and evoke emotions is almost unfair
It was re-released in theaters some years ago, and it was a complete box office disaster, few went to see it. I suppose that not only have most people already watched it, but many also consider it vastly overrated along with myself. I make this assessment based on the fact that I just bought the 35th anniversary 4K blu ray about a month ago(mostly for the included OST on CD) and forced myself to watch it, and finish it, even though it was incredibly slow and boring, even after having not seen it in probably 25 years. However, the music is undoubtedly some of the greatest ever written, it's John Williams once again writing an incredible score to elevate a mediocre movie to great heights and popularity.
Absolutely amazing. John Williams is the one who makes bikes fly. Who makes the Ark discovered. Who makes the force possible and who makes Superman fly. His music has feelings and emotions and THAT IS A TRUE GENIUS CONDUCTOR WHOS MADE THESE MOVIES EVEN MORE EPIC AND TIMELESS CLASSICS!! BRAVO MR. WILLIAMS!! THE WORLD LOVES YOUR MUSIC AND YOUR GIFT TO MAKE IT!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
After all the years of watching this movie, I just noticed the small amount of Yoda's theme put in there when they walk by the kid in the Yoda costume. Williams is the GOAT, nuff said
In the movie soundtrack recording in Abbey Road when those trumpets come in at the Fanfare my hairs on the back of my neck literally stood up. It was incredible. Now 40 years later & in my 70's i can remember it like yesterday.
Watch the ending with my daughter all the time its so powerful and magical and with john Williams score its a magicsl recipe The 8 people who gave a thumbs down must be tone deaf
Amazing.... This music always brings me to tears, as i replay the scenes, without seeing the movie. It always had a profound effect on me even as a child. I love this so much, thank you for sharing💯❤️
All I can say is thank you. Thank you thank you. This has to be my favorite score and album. John Williams is incredible. Some amazing work but this movie alone always touched me as a kid born in the 80s but as adult I learned to appreciate this amazing music. The music is like a journey. Amazing. Brings a tear to my eyes. Especially the last scene.
E.T. was ahead of his time and clearly clairvoyant. He told Drew Barrymore to be good 😊. Great film with the greatest ending in movie history. An incredible mixture of music and film. God bless Steven Spielberg and John Williams.
There has truly never been a better piece of music written and there has never been a better children’s movie made!! You sully the good name of the greatest director of all time (Steven Spielberg) and the greatest composer of all time (John Williams) by leaving this film out of the top 5 on ANY list of the greatest films ever made!! Truly a spectacle of art and genius through and through!! I’m more than proud to call this beautiful film my favorite movie of all time!!!

I saw a version of this in Toronto a few years ago and by far one of the most magical experiences I have ever had. The orchestra (especially the last 20 minutes) was like watching a marathon runner. All of them were fantastic! The score is timeless! John Williams is a treasure! Saw the Jurassic Park version too and that was also amazing!
yeah mate was great was the 30th anniversary of my dads passing so held a lot of emotion for me, almost a sign from dad as was only performance in uk. was so pleased to see a lot of children at matinee as well as this film has to be seen as so great
unfortunately i had the times mixed up so missed this, was supposed to be at the afternoon performance but thought we was at the evening one, so missed the show. :(
A modern musical genius!!! I am Drew Barrymore's age so you can see how this would still have such a nostalgically emotional impact on me!! As an opera singer, I can even more so appreciate the beauty in Maestro Williams' riveting composition. Pulls at your heartstrings!!! This movie was also so far ahead of its time and will continue to be truly loved for another 40 years and beyond !!!
I do know that last 10mins or so of music Williams had trouble hitting the cues so Spielberg removed the film from Johns sight and recut the film to johns best performance
The scene of him walking through the woods in awe of a new planet to him, accompanied with that music, is one of my favourite scenes ever. Was lucky enough to see this and JP live. Best things I've ever been to! Thank you for doing this video!
Alex D It creeped me the fuck out as a kid, the whole opening sequence, but it's supposed to be eerie etc. But watching as an adult I just find it really powerful and appreciate how well its done

took my 8 year old today to see it. it is definately more exciting and fun in the cinema than on dvd or a small TV Screen. You hear and see more. it is funny and dramatic.
I didn’t see this performance but saw one in 2019, also at the Royal Albert Hall as a Christmas present to my mother. ET has always had a special place in my heart. It was the second movie I saw in a theater. My grandmother made me a hand sewn ET costume, and Is walk up to people with my glowing finger and say “Be good..” Seeing this movie, with the live orchestra is magical. This is a movie about friendship, coming of age, and making hard decisions even when you know they’re right.
Such an emotionally powerful ending, that shot of Elliot looking up at the sky, knowing .E.T has gone 'home', and will never see him again. The brilliant music, of course, intensifies it.
GOOD DIRECTING SIR|!! haha especially before he took off on his bike hahahaha....absolute quality use of the zoom on a camara phone LOVE IT! so glad u filmed this im waiting for it to come back this year ''il be right here'' JOHN WILLIAMS is a musical genius
John Williams is the master of Crescendo, He hits loads of minor notes off key and uses them either as harmony or to build into a Crescendo using major notes Making the Crescendo sweeter!
@@050572robert yes but the tempo here is alot better than the official recording, i like the way it slows down earlier compared to the official recording
I love how how Mr. William's sneaks in 'Yoda's Theme' when we see Yoda in the Halloween Sequence; amazing playing by the orchestra - the music is not easy.
Lesson number one for children wanting to take up an instrument or to be in an orchestra, should be how important and crucial they are to any musical, movie, tv show, etc. Let them pick their favorite movie and let them watch without music (turn the volume down) and replay the same scene with the orchestra. They need to know how important they'll be!

Wish ET would get released again in cinemas for a few weeks worldwide. It would be nice to relive its magic in the cinema.
They are showing it in conjunction with the symphony in Wichita this December
One of my first memories was doing exactly that.

No matter how manly you may be, we can all agree it's perfectly okay to break down into tears at this movie's ending.
Seen this movie dozens, if not hundreds of times. Destroys me every time. It’s a Spielberg/Williams thing. Undeniably irresistible.
Definitely! I'm a man and I cry every time bro. Most of it comes from the music and 10% from the acting.
Yep was crying watching it tonight at cinema, went on my own, very magical score, loved it
Saw it in IMAX with my brother back in August, we were both in tears during the ending
