The Mallet story has destroyed a childhood illusion..😢 As for scariest things, the Children of the Corn film. Just nasty. Still love the background choons. You should get it remixed as ambient dance! Thanks for a cracking 2024, CD. Have a brilliant 25. 🎉
I love these Isle of Wight walks, there's a bittersweetness about the whole place which gives off this atmosphere of the lost past, yet still being content enough in the present. And of course, the (ahem) boundless mirth and side-splitting hilarity of Marek ; )) And the welcome addition of the lovely Rowan : ) Btw, i never see many large new housing estates being built, or big refurbishments on the island when i'm there. Which is another reason why i like it. I hope it never changes too much! Around where i live, there's new estates everywhere!!
They are building loads alas. That field at the start is turning into one very shortly. The planning on the Island is decided by secret handshakes I have learnt whilst trying to stand up to them.
@@cdwc Blimey, i wasn't aware. I of course noticed the field that you pointed out at the start. Well, good on you for trying to stand up against this. And no doubt this all happens on dodgy business transactions! It's a bit of a puzzler in a way, because other than second homes, i had this notion from what i've seen on videos and other stuffs, that people in general wouldn't want to live on the island!! I also suspect that the majority of Islanders would disapprove too. Go Marek!!
I remember something that frightened me as a kid. Aged 4 I was living in the carribean and my mum told me a hurricane was coming. I had no idea what that ment but I vividly imagined what I could only describe as a less colourful Mr Blobby with a long tounge, which he used to scoop up and swallow all the food in the kitchen cupboards. The category 4 hurricane was less scarey.
Most scary thing as a child was a trip to a Doctor Who exhibition in Blackpool in the late 70s. Don’t think I was in there more than 5 minutes. Thanks for all the great content this year, Marek.
I was scared of thunder storms as a child to the point that I missed my middle school leavers disco as I was frightened I would be hit by lightning. It is the Isle of Wight old county flag 😂
A fine walk. The Sandown to Culver stretch has many memories for me. We used to holiday nearby back in the early 80s and I spent most of my money in "Wight City" playing Pac-Man and other wonderful games. One evening after an after dinner session of Defender and Robotron I decided to run back along the beach towards Culver Cliff, leaping majestically over the groynes. Woe was me when mid-leap I noticed the tide had come in about 10 yards further up the beach and I landed in the freezing cold water well over my waist. Brrrrrrrrrrrr.
A belated Xmas and a healthy and happy New Year to all the Cool Dudes. Biggest fear as a kid: the one-eyed stones that move ever closer during the night from the frankly terrifying 1970s kids' TV show Escape Into Night (based on the 1960s novel Marianne Dreams and later made into the far less pant-wetting 1980s film Paperhouse). In fact I'm still scared of them. Absolutely scarred for life.
I will have to find that show. That sounds excellent. I was ill over Christmas worst luck hopefully will recover in time for new year. Hope you and your family have a great one.
@@cdwc Looks like a few people have put all 6 episodes up on TH-cam. If you watch them I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'm not going anywhere near them again.
A superb uplifting video Cool Dudes, thank you. Re: greedy property developers, wish they'd redevelop brown field sites instead of concreting over green fields. 100-250 houses being built in the fields opposite me so no more safe cycling or walking, never mind, time to move on after 32 years! Wishing you all the very best for 2025
I agree with you 100% about brown field sites. They always build the cheapest possible houses and cram them in too. That field in the video was recommended for a maximum of 85 houses. Have a great new year cool dude
Nice walk cool dude, Rowan was a delight as usual. When I was a kid our slightly older neighbours played An American Werewolf in London on video, the scene where David is running through the woods and eating a deer. I got freaked out and "heard" my mum shouting so I could make my escape.😂 Happy new year dudes.👍
Spending the next days with family on the Island (grew up there), and a really looking forward to getting out and wandering over the downs for a few hours. Love the Island walks on here, makes me realise what a great place it really is down there 😁
I try one more time, when I was a kid I listened to Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds whilst flicking through the picture book that came with it. Scared me for months.
Glad to be part of the Cool Dudes Waddling Club Glad you used my Rowan keyring at the end. My amazing girlfriend made it for me for Christmas. I was scared of pigeons as a kid. There was a square in my town where people fed them and you had to walk through it to the shops. There were always tons of them and they were agressive. I'm glad to share in your hatred of them now
Merry Christmas! Nice to see this video appear just before we set off to the Island this afternoon. Glad it's still there and not drifted away. When I was very young the opening sequence in Bagpuss, where he woke up used to scare me. As for those new houses in Bembridge, it's even worse as the population of the village has fallen over the last 10 years, so it's not like they are needed to accommodate a growing population there.
Whilst 130 holiday let's is probably a bit excessive I understand the Island does need a boost to the tourist economy and those huge derelict hotels don't seem to be set for making a come back anytime soon. As for the population falling, schools closing etc I'm amazed that people don't join the dots and link it to the lack of housing available for young people to move into and raise a family. Just saying..
As a child I used to get a feeling that I was being watched when ever I went down the stairs at home which was pretty scary. Seasons Greetings to you both !
What a Christmas present 🎁 still sleep with the hallway light on after watching Freddie’s new nightmare when I was 15 I’m now 44!!! was told I waddled when I was pregnant 😮
Another wonderful walk, once again filled with many childhood memories for me (some a little tragic as it's where our family dog sadly lost her life one new years eve 💔 😢 and another walk ended with my first ever ambulance ride aged 7!) But despite those occasions I have many more happy memories that make that walk from Shanklin to Brading very special to relive. My childhood fear was the troll from three billy goats gruff (who my mom told me lived in a small quarry on brading downs!) and dinosaurs (as apparently it was acceptable to take a 5 yr old to see Jurassic Park at the cinema 😳)
Oh no that is a terrible story. I am sorry. As for the Billy Goats Gruff. I was terrified of the troll too! I recently bought the old Read it Yourself book. Still scary.
Love this video, me + my gf, and her mum went to Isle of Wight and went to many parts including Shanklin, Godshill, Sandown, Cowes, etc Hasn't been there for many years. Was great to be back there + we went there in mid to late Sept and weather was warm for the 3 days/4 nights! And only cost the 3 of us £60 each-including the RTN ferry from Portsmouth! I'm from Kent just to refresh our memory 😀
What a beautiful walk and definitely worth more than 3, Rowan! Saying that, we do enjoy your walks together; lots of laughing which we all need more of! The Daleks are responsible for one of the earliest fears I can remember. I really did hide behind the sofa! Thanks for another top video. Happy New Year to you and Rowan! Stay cool
I watched the Boxing Day swim at Ventnor yesterday on tv, hoping there might be a Cool Dudes video soon, as well. And voila, it appeared today! And the cherry on top was seeing Rowan join you for this lovely walk. Thank you!
My brother coming down the stairs woken from an early bed and telling us an old woman shoutee 'Luke, stop fiddling!' at him, when none of us had said anything. Was the scariest thing to happen in my house.

My dad let me watch horror films way too young (though I love them now!), and I was traumatised by Poltergeist, especially the tall, skinny guy in Poltergeist 2 😬 Aside from that, I thought Dracula lived in our loft. No idea why 🤷♀️
What scare me as a child, was the horror film, curse of Frankenstein with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. I had to sleep with my bedroom door closed, as I used to think he was hiding between it and the wall. You don't waddle BTW, I think you amble.
When I was 7 I was left alone in an apartment I hadn't been to before and at night I watched Aliens by myself in the dark. The problem was that this apartment building had mice or rats in the wall so as I was watching this movie about skittering things coming out of the walls or dropping down from the ceiling there would be random skittering noises around me. It was terrifying. And for those of you who wonder why I was 7 and alone in apartment I hadn't been in before my dad wanted to go on a date and for some reason the idea of leaving me home alone was terrible but leaving me in this stranger' apartment while they did their date was fine.
The weird thing that scared me as a child was E.T. I saw the trailer and had nightmares he was watching me through the window for yeeeears. Still haven't seen it, though I'm not scared, you just can't make me.
I was terrified of ET too. ET soft toys were the 'in' thing for my wee pals to have when I was 7 or 8 and I couldn't understand why anyone would think they were cute and cuddly when clearly they were malevolent and evil (note: I hadn't seen the film, just the merch that was everywhere in 1983/84).
As a kid, spiders terrified me. I'm only slightly over that. The flag: It is taken from the Isle of Wight Arms granted in 1938 and features a representation of Carisbrooke Castle, at a guess and no way google had any influence in that answer.
Scary things - My brother told me Santa had 100 eyes so he could always tell if you were sleeping. Imagine Santa with 100 eyes - even some in his beard.
The film Troll (86) Gothic with that little demon thing! Yeah Dream Warriors Freddie. Had a mate who’s mum would get us totally age inappropriate films, never right.
I was scared of two things. 1. My mums blanket chest which I saw as a coffin containing frankensteins monster ad d 2. Adorable girls like Rowan (don’t tell her)
When I was very young I was scared of Chewbacca because they said he could pull your arms off and I was worried he'd be hiding in the dark recesses of my house at night hungry for a good arm pulling
I thought you were going to say your bad experience with Timmy Mallet was being hit on the head with a mallet in "Mallet's mallet"! I think they had to stop that because children up and down the country were playing it using actual hammers.
I wonder if Rowan meant to go with 'dawdle' rather than 'waddle'. THat might fit your style more accurately (although not when trying to catch a train.)
The best second of this walk was 5.23 because of the beautiful pigeon. If you don’t recognise me it is because my dog died last week hence photo change to my puppy. You can help my deep grief a little by saying you love pigeons.
Merry Christmas! And a Rowan episode. She is the true meaning of chirpy chaos.
Rowan really is the perfect companion, I'm sure everyone falls in love with her. Thanks for the entertainment as always. Have a great New Year.
Happy New Year Cool Dude
Guilty as charged 🙈
Seeing The Wizard of Oz at the pictures in the mid 60s scared the bejezzers out of me. My older sisters gave me grief for many many years afterwards.
Mr Nosey Bonk off Jigsaw in the early 80’s was terrifying cool dude.
Today i learned that if you see a strange thing on the beach like a Rowan don't touch. Got it and thanks for the top tip.

Oh no middle school discos were the best. I liked it when everyone was 13 and there were non-stop discos every weekend in various village halls.
Yay, Rowan!
Happy New Year to you cool dude
The thing that scared me as a kid was watching the film "The Fog" an old 70s/80s film. Esp when the creepy monster thing was revealed at the end.
Jen: Wee Willly Winky
Mike: Jaws out of James Bond hiding in my bathroom in the dark

Was my big phobia of going on holiday!
Godshill can be quite scary cool dude.
Nice One Cool Dude! Merry Christmas!
Thunderstorms, I witnessed a house explode after a lightning strike when I was 5, I didn’t beat the fear until I was 16 and I was caught out in one.😎

Watching 'Alien' around the age of 9 - the whole facehugger/ impregnation part had a profound effect on me..
I'm not sure how we were allowed to watch it but everyone did as we all talked about that dinner scene at school! 😱
Nine is way too early for Alien, still one of the scariest films.
In my day, we called them "back-seat hevs". Which I suppose was short for heavies. Never thought about it until now.
I read that as Kevs first of all.

Rowan's teeth as beautiful as ever.
They should have their own channel
Do you often tell ladies there teeth look good?
Are you her dentist?
Hi cool dude. We now live close to the Lymington/Yarmouth ferry. Do you know if there is a decent walk to the needles from there. Cheers. 👍

Possibly. I might do a walking Q&A.

I think the flag is The Isle of Wight Castle flag
and I would say it's more of a pootle than a waddle 😊😊
Yes Pootle is much more pleasing.
I watched it again. I think the characters like the wheelers may have been better than the story.
If the boats are facing Yaverland they've run aground.
As a kid, spiders terrified me. I'm only slightly over that. The flag: It is taken from the Isle of Wight Arms granted in 1938 and features a representation of Carisbrooke Castle, at a guess and no way google had any influence in that answer.
Excellent, thanks, to you and Google
Scary things - My brother told me Santa had 100 eyes so he could always tell if you were sleeping. Imagine Santa with 100 eyes - even some in his beard.
This is very good bullying, you have to respect that creativity.
Erm, 'waddle', yes.... 😁
The film Troll (86) Gothic with that little demon thing! Yeah Dream Warriors Freddie. Had a mate who’s mum would get us totally age inappropriate films, never right.
I don't think my Dad even checked the dates on films. He once got us some erotic conan the barbarian rip off film that was way too old for us!
Is it the Carisbrooke Castle Civil flag??? Thanks for all your content in 2024, looking forward to more in 2025. Nice one 👍🏻
The comments say I was the old Isle of Wight flag cool dude
Marek in sunglasses
Got any grapes?
That flag is the Newport Town flag
Excellent thanks cool dude.
Sorry mate ,you definitely waddle. But I love you.
This made me cry.
Waddle! Outrageous slander
Quite right.
I was scared of two things. 1. My mums blanket chest which I saw as a coffin containing frankensteins monster ad d 2. Adorable girls like Rowan (don’t tell her)
Both of these things are terrifying cool dude.
When I was very young I was scared of Chewbacca because they said he could pull your arms off and I was worried he'd be hiding in the dark recesses of my house at night hungry for a good arm pulling
I have never thought as Chewbacca as a threat, he had such lovely hair.
@cdwc He won me around in the end. Maybe it was something to do with his locks.
Hi Marek can ask do you play the backing music on your vids and then do a Les Dawson at the end
I only do the bit at the end, the rest is from the TH-cam Audio libray
Skull in Carisbrooke Castle.
A waddle is a fair description.
Nothing wrong with waddling, it didn't do Chris Waddle any harm!
Correct
do you get people to bid on the watercolours to boost the price?
No
Also mildly offended by this suggestion

I thought you were going to say your bad experience with Timmy Mallet was being hit on the head with a mallet in "Mallet's mallet"! I think they had to stop that because children up and down the country were playing it using actual hammers.
I sometimes wonder how many severe head injuries he caused.
I wonder if Rowan meant to go with 'dawdle' rather than 'waddle'. THat might fit your style more accurately (although not when trying to catch a train.)
I hope this is what she meant cool dude
The best second of this walk was 5.23 because of the beautiful pigeon. If you don’t recognise me it is because my dog died last week hence photo change to my puppy. You can help my deep grief a little by saying you love pigeons.
I am so sorry to hear that cool dude. I also decided not to read the last sentence of your post as I could sense the world pigeon in it.
Flag is Isle of Wight county flag and yes you do waddle
The thing that I was and most of my friends were scared of when we were kids was a bit of dog shit on a stick.
the flag is, i think, the flag for waddling not allowed
Return to Oz is scary as hell...The Wheelers are the worst!!!
I watched it again recently. I think some of the characters were let down a bit by the poor story.
Some dogs are assholes, that was not one of them. He was just a Rude Boy!
