Mars and Mystre were the sh*t! I'd sneek in drinks in the Oakland Warehouses raves and my glowsticks with my friends hahaha. Those were the days. Time sure flys. PLUR!
Mars rocked the best rave i ever been too! it was during the sunset and i was chilling on a hill rollin balls watching thousands of people below me with glow sticks in the air! This was in like 98 my god what a memory!! P.L.U.R for LIFE!!
Lord have mercy; what a great find. Mars and Mystre and that style of trance had a large following at our parties in Arizona, both the desert and the warehouses. And I was/am certainly a fan. Great stuff, great memories.
doesn't matter who came to play Tiesto, ATB, ferry etc... Mars and Mystre were the gods of the Bay! we went to see them not only play, but close the show! and every time was as epic as the last! forever F8!
I always went to raves for the music.. that's why it was hard to see people hurting themselves, fighting, & stealing.. during such beautiful music.. to me this music brings back such wonderful & horrible memories.. drinking lots of coffee on the way to raves.. advocating no drug use @ party's.. helping those whom overdosed (some barely 14 years old).. whom had been abandoned by they're friends (so sad).. but still there are lovely memories too.. I still have my tapes F8! Thank you for posting!
This brings back so many damn memories. Those fools used to throw it down in the bay back in the early 2000 when i went to Cal. Gives me the chills just hearin this song.
We all miss those days. My early 20s was without a doubt the best years so far of my entire life! 1999 new years eve 2nd & Jackson is where it began. I partied hard untill 2003. It made me the person I am TODay. When I die my idea of Heaven is goibg back and reliving it again and again and again. ( juat this time w Dogs and cat) if heaven doesn't have Dogs or Trance music then I Don't wanna go. Stay tuned in.....
Michelle Jackson Espinosa I was there that night too! We all were waiting for Y2K to crash the system. When nothing happened, on went the party! What a great point in my life. Miss those days.
Mars and Mystre were very inspired by OMD. For reference check out OMD - Tesla Girls for the hook on this one. Also, OMD's Joan of Arc/Maid of Orleans was a big M&M smash along with Frequency 8's Dancing Spirit.
my first time spinning at a rave i got to share the stage with Mars, who was the reason i started spinning in the first place, when i played my last track i got to hand off the tables to Mars and ill never forget it. my girlfriend at the time was in the crowd and after i got off stage she came up to me crying and said holy shit that was my boyfriend. it was at the Masterdome in So Cal in front of 3000 people and its one of the best moments of my life. You best believe i played Electric Blue in my set. Didnt care if Mars was gonna play it again that night
Can you even IMAGINE this playing at 1015 now? I know things change, but there's a distinct vibe that went along with this era, too...IDGAF what anyone says - it was better. I've been dj'ing for the last 20 years and I started because of this and the way parties felt back then and you just don't see it now.
Mars actually played there a few months back and played this and many more tracks at our TranceFamily Sf party @ 1015!! It was fucking epic! He's a good friend of mine! F-8 is back on the the map and there are new tracks coming out soon!! Stay Tuned in... to Frequency 8!!
I remember a scene just like this, when I was within 50' of the 2 of them, and I was jumping up and down, and they saw I was smiling, and they smiled back and nodded. This music is magical and brings back eternal feelings of PLUR
Damn, listening to this track sure brings back the memories.. this track used to always bring the house down.. guys used to always crack their ultras for this song!! Good times!!
Angels Camp Mega Buzz 5 was the best party of my life. Better than anything I had at Home Base. Now I travel around the world for the best parties. I found a similar vibe in Thailand Koh Phangan. But like everything it was time sensitive. I still dig out the best spot, and try to keep them secret from the masses, but nothing beats the old school Bay scene. I will still try and relive the memories. 30 years old, it is still all about the dance, and I will never stop.
Mars and Mystre ROCKED..... Got to love the parties back in the day!!!! GOOD PEOPLE GOOD VIBES!!!! P>L>U>R> It was all about parties in 1998-2002....best times of my life....
@ David M. So true, it was Frequency 8's vision and sound, along with @Avantt007's list of Mars & Mystre, Dyloot, Dj D, Tracer, F8, Skillz, 2nd& Jackson, Homebase, 1998, PLUR that was the sound for the Bay Area hands down. Reunion time? ⚓️ :)
The first time I listened to this a few months back I tried so hard to transcribe it but never could. A great song it's just amazing it really opens my mind.
that is real. Traveling to the best places.. tight.. yes the Bay scene old school.. people who weren't there .. won't understand.. sad that it went nutzoid and so mainstream.. but the small underground places i use to seek out.. i remember this one party was at a part of s.f.'s beach that had been closed off.. you had to follow the ribbons to get there.. there were generators powering the equipment.. cold as all get out.. but worth it.. it felt like a treasure hunt to get there.. a free party!
lucky to have been there for it all bay area Rave scene was the Shit underground or massives the vibes and tracks like this, i cant even put into words the good feeling
Kids these days who aren't aware of the Techno, Dub, Trance, Jungle, House,.. ect.. that blew up in the underground during the 90's.. would be blown away by how much great music is out there.. how many amazing d.j.'s aren't in the lime light.. I lived for the underground rave scene.. music/dance was my way of forgetting how grimy the world was.. It was "All about the music" for me.. and still is :) I wish there were raves going on with a safe environment.. I'll never forget Angel Camp grounds..
There is a thriving desert renegade scene! F8 was the fucking best, and my heart still aches for that, but small desert gatherings are love and kicking with SO much community, soul, and amazing talent!
Holy smokes! I remember getting permission from 1015 Folsom and both Mars & Mystre to record their sets in the basement off the sound board.. with a super vhs recorder.. must have been 96-98 range.. Hung out with them both in Walnut Creek occasionally .. love ya guys.. still have the tape.. player died though.. (I dropped acid and then the recording levels were kinda forgotten)
wow only 61 thousand like.. wtf.. nobody talks about mars & mystre.. they chance the way we listen to music. 1999-2004 they only play this and atb. and alice deejay. and after tiesto showed up and pvk euro dj took over.. mainstream with modern music radio artist to mainstream movie. skrillex really change the sound of music again. eventually pvk and paul oakenfold.. sahsa. john digweed. will be gone. such a history of music.
I know a guy who has these notes tattoo'd on his arm. Bought this vinyl from Harmonics as a promo before it was for sale. All time hair raising, spine tingling raver goodness.
i was going through some of my old trance cassettes (tapes) and found my stash of Mystre cassettes. now i can't stop listening to them in the old duel cassette deck. Damn these were the days, the best trance, best house and best hardcore ever! i miss the old rave scene. i can't stand the new slut fest (rave scene) now with their wack ass dubstep! Thanks for uploading this song...
ravers are ravers, be it raving from late 80s to 2010. no need to differentiate. hip hop heads will never understand. mars and mystre were the pinnacle of amazing hometown trance in california. only home town hero i can say now a days might out do them is Doublestaxxx.. but hes a dj of now, mars and mystre, set in stone as legends. i fucking miss late 90s era raving. so cal and sf.. i really do. it was my life. now its.. ugh. not the same.
@ericstan....my first party was at homebase, the international rave center. I used too ride bart from fremont to get there, trains were always packed and were like a pre-party. GOOD-F'N-TIMES.
@ddande04 Aww so many parties at homebase. Man I cant believe these guys are still around. I remember seeing them at raves int he bay area 10 years ago!
yeah, it got worse and worse, I use to take a jug of extra strong coffee, and that was my way of staying up, always trying to advocate sober partying, there are small partys you can find that don't have as much grimyness .. and that have an older crowd . (not teens) you just have to look.. I took a break for years, but never stopped listening and loving the music.. (remember if you love the music don't stop listening).
I don't have anything from F8, but I know both Skills and DJ Denise let you download their old mixtapes for free. TH-cam won't let me post the links directly, but with a little googling you should be able to find them no prob. :)
Jakarta? only few have that kind of freedom to just travel like that.. and the money.. but it's worth it.. i remember seeing whole familys kids and all on their parents shoulders while at Angel Camp grounds.. I met people .. "The Gathering".. I helped set up there.. and helped with parking and security.. the best thing.. getting in for free.. eating lunch with Thomas Trouble .. talking to the d.j.'s about their sets.. and no flirty stuff just labbing on music.. wearing our little "work badges".
After the giants (Base, Jackson, Mari) fell, it was the best time for the renegade parties. I remember breaking into abandoned warehouses to set up for 2,000 people. Map point for tickets. Free parties at Hunters Point 26th or Rankin under the overpass. And on the beach of SF. John Daily follow the fags. I was there. That was Acid Totem; still in the works. I miss it but find my fix in travel. Next stop Jakarta.
Till the day I die even as an old man I will forever have a smile on my face this music will always make me remember that the best
Still bumping in 2023!!
2022 and I'm still jamming this track! One of the Kings of trance!
