    Henry is the GOAT at conveying information via simple concepts. What a privilege to have a student of Rickson who is so articulate and clear in passing on the wisdom osssssss

    Henry is right up there with John D as my favorite Jiu-Jitsu scientists. I tried Xande’s Diamond Concept with limited success; I think Akins gets to the underlying principle better, as simple as it sounds. I’m a 9 year black belt but still in search of that ultimate unifying concept which is the simplest to actualize under extreme pressure.

      Unifying concept for Jiu Jitsu and most combat sports? Priit Mihkelson and Chris Paines.

      The problem with the diamond concept like so many other instructionals is the fact that a lot of details are left out and they don’t show the instructor rolling and doing a verbal breakdown of the concepts taught and how they are applied in a real rolling situation. There are just too many what if’s. Even Danaher’s first guard retention video didn’t help because a lot of details that could answer the what if’s was left out. Maybe it’s just me but this is my experience. The best is Banardo’s guard passing. His guard passing is worthy of 5 stars because he has multiple instructionals and they have him rolling and explaining what is going on.

      I have and watched Xande diamond concept Retention (getting elegant 😊). I have Danaher's Guard Retention and watched it. I have a number of Henry's Instructionals. What I like about his Instructionals is that he is very concise. He gets to what needs to be done, how to do it, and why. There is practically no fluff. I appreciate how to the point he is in his explanations.

    I really like this hanry atkins guy. His side control video, I started using it right away, and he explains the basics in a way that make a lot of sense to me.

    This is such great concept to follow. Everyone is trying to learn all these open guard movements and it can get a little complex. So I like things that are simple to learn.

    At 5:25, how did he just stretch his leg and get his butterfly hook when Bernardo had the leg weave? 🤔

    • @shandyooo
      @shandyooo 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      He kicked his leg straight, then back into the hook. Your leg is stronger than his grip and is able to break the weave quite easily.

    So Henry is saying it’s not a bad thing to play half guard offensively.
    It’s just bad to try to retain a half guard whenever a pass is initiated. You can get back to your half guard game once the threat of the pass is dealt with by two in or two out.

    • @statcmf4199
      @statcmf4199 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      This is exactly what I took
      There’s a hierarchy of priority thats necessary to support the concept but the context is as stated. Specifically trying to “retain” half guard is miss use. Lockdown is something to be added to the conversation though
