  • PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE CURRENTLY STILL IN SELF ISOLATION BACK IN AUSTRALIA.
This is day 5 of our thru-hike along the Appalachian Trail.
We start this video around mile 28, a quarter of the way up Blood Mountain. We get to the summit on the most perfect of days. The weather is warm, the sun is out and there’s barely any wind.
The views are incredible and it’s such a surreal experience to be somewhere we have watched many videos on when we were preparing for this thru-hike. The descent from Blood Mountain is much harder than it was when we we going up. We ended up getting lost on the mountain down a steep pathway, but we are able to retrace our footsteps back to the trail.
We eventually make it to Neels Gap for a hot pizza and a resupply before heading to our next camp site (mile 35). It is relatively a stealth site on top of a mountain and it’s here where we have to hang our first bear bag, which we fail at numerous times.

We’re Scott & Lauren, a couple from Melbourne in Australia!
Our passion for travelling, backpacking and hiking started back in July of 2017 when we headed off to Europe for a 6-month backpacking trip, which would ultimately change our lives. After returning in January 2018, the "standard" post-travel emotions hit.
We both decided we would knuckle down and try and save as much money as possible before jetting off again to see more of this beautiful world.
First stop... Atlanta in Georgia, USA - Here is where we will be attempting an Appalachian Trail thru-hike beginning in March 2020!

And I thought I sucked at bear bag throwing! Hint: don't hold on to the free end of the line when throwing. (But you already know that.)) Scott's subtle sense of humor is great! I hope your plans include returning next year!

I wish, Lisa! I believe we might only have one more video of us on the AT before we had to get off. So sad 😞 but we still have plans for more videos in the near future 💪

Loved the bear hang attempts. Don't see enough of that on other people's videos. Had be cracking up.
I lived in Strathmore in Melbourne way back in '73 and '74. (Yes, I'm that old.) I barraked for Essendon back then. I also played footy for the Philadelphia Hawks. There is a pretty big Aussie rules league here in the States called the USAFL. Thought you might be interested in checking that out sometime.
    Thanks for another great video.

Haha it definitely takes a bit of practice, that’s for sure!! We didn’t know Aussie Rules was very popular in the states, we will check that out! Sounds awesome.

Thanks so much Robert! Yes, next year is our plan. We are unable to return this year due to the international travel restrictions that Australia has implemented.
