Fishing off an old bridge one night, I was fixing up my bait when I heard what sounded like a gun shot behind me. It was my buddies pole breaking off just above the reel as he set the hook. Forgot to loosen his drag. Had to have been a huge fish.

Look at the Academy Sports " pro cat" 7ft snagging rod. I use them for suspended catfish. Beautiful stout rods, aluminum double locking reel seat, stainless guides $35 it's a friggin steal for an amazing rod
I used to chum in the current.,,blood guts and all. Get bait fish going on. A little laundry soap powder keeps it on top and it sinks slow. Learned that from papason in the service..

Man, I have many rods and several ugly stik rods light to heavy and I don't think I ever had a issue with them! Love my older ambassador reels for catfishing around Santee lakes. 5500s and 5000s and I think a couple 5500c-3s . They work. My grandpa bought two daiwa millionaires and gave em to me because he just didn't like them compared to the ambassadors. I like them but I don't throw out because they love birdnesting. I just drop em in deep water especially around the damn.
Every single fish us catfisherman hook and end up not landing because of line breaking, or fish swimming into a snag , or just coming off because they were barely hooked is always a giant monster fish. No exceptions... Every one we don't land is definitely a monster 😂 😂😂
Big Bertha in propane cove busted your line. It's not a easy cove to fish in because of all the propane containers cut open for the catfish to nest in.
