- Channel 7 Melbourne asked advert jingle writer Mike Brady (Two Man Band) to pen a football song for their replays.
The song became so popular that Channel 7 released it as a single and it quickly shot to No.1 in the Melbourne charts during the 1979 finals series.
As a result of its Melbourne success it made the national Top 40, which probably left Sydney rugby followers wondering who Cazaly was. - เพลง
the best sports song ever produced! it hyped the VFL more than ever before
I loved it from England as they viewed the movie The Club a number of times
Still relevant in 2023.

Fotis koalas i know how you feel.Live in Athens and miss this kind of footy.Today all crap.
Me too. I have lived in the UK for over twenty years. But miss the footy so much! And thus song always makes me cry and makes me miss Melbourne. It reminds me of a different time.......
Same. Whatever happened to the good old days of footy? I missed spectacular marks, and unbelievable goals.
@@syc9675 AFL rules committee ruined it
Don't come back it'll break your heart ♥.
Australia at it's best! I wish we still had these days .....
@@samuelspoons3553 Careful mate your gonna upset all the Leftists that have pretty much railroaded this once great country down the toilet. It's not about footy anymore, its all glbt, feminism, open borders and social media manipulation BS. Welcome to modern Australia, embrace the shame
@Louis Kim What is it with boomers making shit up to get angry about?
@@drewp.weiner5708 Tbf he's not wrong.

In the UK a soccer team Derby County FC adopted the Up There Cazaly tune as the club anthem 'Steve Bloomer's Watching'.
Oh my GOSH!! This song is a masterpiece!! I'm a New Zealander, have visited Aussie in Dec 2004, and I love Aussie, and this INCREDIBLE song!! I picture brothers in arms here, in a pub, just having a good time! And even as a Kiwi, this to me, this song, it's the GREATEST sports song - in the WORLD!! It had me in tears quite literally, and I AIN'T ashamed to say it! This song here, it is jam packed FULL of passion, pride, power and emotion!! Well done Mr Brady!! You deserve PLATINUM for this!! When I first heard this song from a mate of mine, it just was stuck in my head for days, not hours, but DAYS! And I didn't want it gone! Man, God Bless Australia!! And thank you Mr Mike Brady for your masterpiece here!! It is incredible!! All the best, from New Zealand!! 👍♥️🏆🏆
I'm a Kiwi too. I first heard this song watching a Jack Thompson football movie. I think it was about the Collingwood club. No doubt someone can confirm what the movie was.
Such a classic song! Catchy tune too! Mike Brady definitely wrote a gem with this song!
The fabulous Graham Morgan on drums and l believe the great Alex Hutchinson on clarinet l had the honour of working with them at Scotts Hotel in the late 50 s
Greatest sports song of all time and all places…
Up there Cazaly - Roy Cazaly (13 January 1893 - 10 October 1963) was an Australian rules footballer who played for South Melbourne and St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He also represented Victoria and Tasmania in interstate football, and after his retirement as a player, turned to coaching.
one of the worlds best Rucksmen
shame we dont have ads like this anymore
gets the vibe ready for grand final day . Great song
The Aussie national anthem, as well as Jmmie Barnes's "working class man". Makes me homesick
Our great football song marvelous.thats when they played football
Makes me shiver. I can remember warming up to this song on load speaker at a grand final in under 18s . Where did the good days go. Aussie rules toughest greatest game of them all.
Now there's a classic! Was a kid at the time, and used to have to 7" single of this song.
Does anyone remember the variant that used to be shown occasionally at the start of the Saturday night replay? It started with Mike Brady singing on top of the scoreboard at VFL Park, if I recall, and opened with the words "There's a song that is sung through the length of the land..."
this is another Mike Brady, channel 7 closing credits song “When Footy Ruled the World” th-cam.com/video/oep4BiX3X2g/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jQCLsQONR27VPDEB

Good old Aussie history. Real football.
This song, IIRC, was slightly re-worded to become the victory song for South Melbourne when they became the Sydney Swans.
All I can say is, They were the days.
Best footy song of all time.
Still think Billy Picken’s mark is so under-rated, brilliant. And that’s coming from an Essendon supporter. God I miss real footy.
Greatest football song !!
I sang this in front of 30,000 people when I was 12 years old New Years eve 4th Asia Pacific Scout Jamboree 1979
Footy was the best when it was VFL the fights weren't pulling each others jersey it was full on rumble in the jungle.
great song
I'm a Sydneysider and yes, I remember wondering who Cazaly was. A tip though, no one calls Rugby League "Rugby" up here. If we shorten it, we call it "League".
Both better then Soccer but on a International level wish Australia had those AFL and NRL players for the Wallabies...AUSTRALIA YOU GOT TOO MANY EGG CHASING CODES LOL

Same for up here in Queensland - we wondered who Cazaly was ... and we have one better than League up here ... WE have 8 State of Origins :P

A great song...but owes a bit to Brotherhood of Mans' song from 1976 "Save All Your Kisses For Me".
At my under 7s in 1980 _81 the strathpine swan's went underfed to win the grand final all because of this song it would be playing as we ran on the oval ge e I mis s my youth go you hot pies coolingwood 2018 (14.17.101) to WC (11.15.81)
You have a team of champions that for sure. Doesn't mean I like you ;-)
BTW Bill Picken’s (RIP) mark was the greatest mark of all time, hands down.
Come on Carlton we can do it 2025❤

Richmond, go the Tigers!!!

0:28, geez look at the G.
Looks like Waverley at its peak.
I think the game has changed. You don't see a bunch of players contesting a mark... perhaps due to a faster game.

not like the crap they call 'footy' these days.
Back in the days when you had to take a punch to be a sportsman
Now you only have to boo to make them cry.
Now it's strict because of the tribunal

I like the first line of this song "You work hard to make a living, but when the weekend comes around, you do whatever turns you on. Get out and clear your mind".
"Me, I like football. There are a lot of games around, but when you line them up together, the footy wins hands-down".
This is how footy should still be. These days, we have political issues, and the "outside world" encroaching on footy, when footy should be escapism, to forget the troubles of the week, and your biggest concern is how your team will play, and if they will win or lose.
Keep the fun in football, and political correctness out of it.
