Once again, as the end of the year approaches, I'd like to thank you for your hard work and love for sumo. Also, on the behalf of the entire French Sumo Club (Paris Sumo) : Thank you !
I'll say it once again I'd love to see the ideal situation play out where possibly both Hoshoryu and Kotozakura get promoted to yokozuna after the tournament if that could happen
A little surprised that Enho didn't get back up to Makushita after another 6-1 and championship match loss in the Sandanme. Probably pushes back potential Juryo return & elder stock clinching to July at best
I have too many thoughts to write, I just wish all people here happy holidays and to all wrestlers a successful January tournament, health and exciting bouts. 2024 was hopefully a buildup to something huge
I'm glad Shishi didn't drop too far after his disappointing November basho. I think he was promoted to Maegashira too early - he needs to work on his confidence (I have said this many times since his Maegashira debut) and his initial moves. I'm also wondering if Hokutofuji will retire if this upcoming basho is poor, I'd hate to see him drop to juryo. I am also too new to sumo to really comment on the yokozuna topic but I would like to see a pair of active yokozuna.
We should all remember that this time last year Kirishima went into Hatsu on a rope run from the November championship and it wasn't going too badly until Terunofuji picked him up and threw him out of the ring, after which his sumo has gone to pot. Obviously injury has played a part too but still.
In a way, that is the duty of a Yokozuna, probe anyone, who wants to achieve that rank. Hakuho used all his experience and skill to defeat Terunofuji in that memorable 14-0 vs 14-0 match. Had Terunofuji been beaten easily, who knows whether he would have been promoted. Hopefully Terunofuji can compete in January to test the three Ozeki dreaming of the white belt!
Go Shiden! Since getting promoted the second time after getting caught up in some misconduct as an attendant, he has steadily gained ground in Juryo! Alas, this might be his highest rank ever reached!
Juryo is going to be exciting in January with Asakoryu, Shishi, and Aonishiki Edit: Wakanosho went 6-1 from Makushita 7 and didn't get to Juryo? Isn't that a huge underpromotion? I would think +5 in Makushita would be 10 ranks up.
If Teru competes, perhaps Kirishima should be happy he’s been demoted to maegashira, a kinboshi will certainly look good on his record, especially since he hasn’t got one yet. Case in point, Wakamotoharu.
It seems terribly unfair that a rikishi who is injured goes down the rankings. Surely they must make some form of change to this? As a returning Sumo fan, I've enjoyed all your shows. Thank you.
Both Hoshoryu and Kotozakura are very, very good, but I think making them yokozuna this year would be a mistake. They are both still very young and have suffered the same runs of inconsistency as all the others. It would be quite the spectacle for newly-minted yokozuna to have a 9-6 tournament right out of the gate.
Kotozakura is not very young, he is already in his late 20s. But I agree that his skills are still the level of a strong Ozeki but not yet of a Yokozuna. Hoshoryu while has the best skill set, still needs to show consistency.
I personally think that Kotozakura has been pretty consistent. He did drop the ball a bit in the last September Basho (Aki) but otherwise it has been 5 double digits in a row. But I also agree that to get to Yokozuna, he needs to start getting more of the yushos.
Не повезло в этот раз Кинбозану с банзуке☹️. Самый неудачный расклад в макуучи. С разницей победа-поражение +9 от J1, при хорошем раскладе мог бы рассчитывать на М7-9😏
I'm very happy for Tamashoho! I've been rooting for him ever since he reached the top ranks of Mukushita. Hakuyozan is probably my least favourite Rikishi. I've never seen any Rikishi give as many unnecessary pushes/shoves to the opponent after the bout is over as Hakuyozan. Even if I don't like him, I expected him to reach Makuuchi already like 2 years ago or so. He has the size and strength and his technique is solid enough. Let's see if he can finally make it next year.
@repeahlfors9951 so many rikishis have surpassed Hakuyozan and didn't stay in juryo for long before moving up. I mean even Tohakuryu dipped one foot in and dropped back to juryo. What is the big guy's issue 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️. I've lost all hope of him getting a maegashira rank
He was mentioned and promoted to Sandanme 4 East with his 6-1 result but because he was at lower Sandanme in November, he could not be promoted to Makushita rank. Had he won the Sandanme Div with 7 wins, he would probably get promoted.
😂Why don't you just look up the entire bansuke online using your God-given fingers to type, since you're clearly capable of using them to make a snide comment here
Absolutely amazed Chiyomaru didn't retire after that 1-14 showing
Just watch -- Chiyomaru will turn in another double-digits for the win, and be back in Juryo for the March basho. _GO CHIYOMARU~!!!_
Once again, as the end of the year approaches, I'd like to thank you for your hard work and love for sumo.

Thank you Chris - All the best to you in 2025!
I look forward to your continued quality content!
You're pumping out the videos. You put out so much interesting information that you can't get anywhere else. Thank you Chris Sumo 🎉🎉🎉.

I am very impressed at how many videos you are putting out while not compromising interesting and informative content! thank you Chris Sumo!
Tamashoho made it!!! 🤩🎉

@gugzmcshield9154 thank you

Excellent summary, with an always interesting style, too.
"Unsalaried hell" is such a fine term.
Waka bros in Sanyaku ranks has me pumped.
what about Roga?
Was just about to type that.
He keeps his #8 rank
Same for Nabatame who stayed in Juryo with his #14 rank.
Too Russian to notice
True. Remember the hissy fit Chris had when they put Roga against Shishi during their makushita days a few years ago? 😂
I have too many thoughts to write, I just wish all people here happy holidays and to all wrestlers a successful January tournament, health and exciting bouts. 2024 was hopefully a buildup to something huge

What about Mita of Futagoyama beya?
Someone to keep an eye on for sure
Time to cheer for Tamashoho 😊

Kirishima will be back this year! He will definitely become a Yokozuna....
Thanks!
Thank you again - and wishing you a very pleasant holiday season!
Would you look at that. Suddenly the Yokozuna race has become interesting.
Go Shiden!
Since getting promoted the second time after getting caught up in some misconduct as an attendant, he has steadily gained ground in Juryo!
Alas, this might be his highest rank ever reached!
Where is Mitakeumi and Takayasu?
Maegashira 7 West and 6 East respectively.
Juryo is going to be exciting in January with Asakoryu, Shishi, and Aonishiki
Edit: Wakanosho went 6-1 from Makushita 7 and didn't get to Juryo? Isn't that a huge underpromotion? I would think +5 in Makushita would be 10 ranks up.
The upper ranks get crazy congested. It's the hardest div to break out of for a reason.
Nice new year set
NOOoo Sadanoumi in Juryo D:
For Chiypmaru has been a long-time favorite of mine. I wish I could send him my fan-art.
If Teru competes, perhaps Kirishima should be happy he’s been demoted to maegashira, a kinboshi will certainly look good on his record, especially since he hasn’t got one yet. Case in point, Wakamotoharu.
Why was the assistant in 9:08 blacked out?
I think that is just something hanging form the 'roof' above the ring, that got into the shot.
I'm always happy to see fresh faces trying to make a place for themselves in Makuuchi. There's been a lot a flux though.
What happened to asanoyama?
He's injured and demoted to Makushita 41 West for Jan 25. But since he is likely not competing in Jan, he will fall down more in the rankings.
how's Enho.
9:43
Great Kotokuzan picture 😂
It seems terribly unfair that a rikishi who is injured goes down the rankings. Surely they must make some form of change to this? As a returning Sumo fan, I've enjoyed all your shows. Thank you.
Does anyone know what is going on with Kawazoe? He did one match and the fell of the earth.
what's the January date tournament, anyone
Second sunday of month
@@Лео-п3в thank you

Tero is basically the same way, when he actually competes. His last tourney win was the first time he looked dominant in awhile.
Kotozakura is not very young, he is already in his late 20s. But I agree that his skills are still the level of a strong Ozeki but not yet of a Yokozuna. Hoshoryu while has the best skill set, still needs to show consistency.
The past has shown that age has no bearing on becoming Yokozuna and getting there requires consistency, so I don’t follow your logic.
I just mean that they still have some years to demonstrate that consistency and dominance
I personally think that Kotozakura has been pretty consistent. He did drop the ball a bit in the last September Basho (Aki) but otherwise it has been 5 double digits in a row. But I also agree that to get to Yokozuna, he needs to start getting more of the yushos.

Hello sumo friends
Hello

Poor Enho! I fully expect Chiyomaru to retire.

Tamashoho has registered his name under the Makuuchi division. Will Hakuyozan ever get a Makuuchi rank? He needs to break the juryo curse
I'm very happy for Tamashoho! I've been rooting for him ever since he reached the top ranks of Mukushita.
Hakuyozan is probably my least favourite Rikishi. I've never seen any Rikishi give as many unnecessary pushes/shoves to the opponent after the bout is over as Hakuyozan. enho barely gets a mention anymore
He was mentioned and promoted to Sandanme 4 East with his 6-1 result but because he was at lower Sandanme in November, he could not be promoted to Makushita rank. Had he won the Sandanme Div with 7 wins, he would probably get promoted.
About time you mention all of the top division guys and in order. So annoying how you present this banzuki....
😂Why don't you just look up the entire bansuke online using your God-given fingers to type, since you're clearly capable of using them to make a snide comment here
Chris kind of invites snide comments bc of his high handed personality ....imo.
