- I happen to be in NYC when they released Alarmo. The new alarm clock by Nintendo. I didn't need one but since I was in town I grabbed one just for fun. Here's what it's like.
Honestly, it's not terrible, just a lot for an alarm clock.

The reason why they do not include the power brick is because then they don't have to go through as many UL certifications. USB is USB, so regardless of if you're in the US or the UK or Japan it doesn't matter. It also makes it easier for them to sell one SKU worldwide

Keep it. Even if it's dumb. It's a Nintendo collectable and maybe something that's hot to get and could be worth a lot someday.

Phone companies are the same way when it comes to not including an adapter in the packaging.
Nintendo is asking 100 dollars for rhis glorified clock that spies on you in your sleep. The least they can do is give you a wall adapter

I use my smart watch as a sleep tracker and alarm.
Alarm is on vibrate so I don't wake who I'm sleeping with or people around the house with obnoxious noise
China has something similar to camera clocks, except the differences it’s required lol 😂
I‘ve got a 50 years old General Electric alarm clock which is still working. My dad bought it in the 70s.
And this is why Nintendo does this and makes money. The attitude of “eh. Really? $100? Hmm ok. Sure. Why not?”

Probably one of the last things I expected to see from Nintendo, but it does seem cool for an alarm clock.
This was announced years ago during iwatas helm of the company.

Its a neat Nintendo branded alarm clock with some interesting features and seems quality made. But the most I'd pay is $50 US, and thats even stretching it.

I would buy this if it used the WiFi feature to set the date/time automatically. I mean it asks for your time zone! But all the documentation I've found, I can't confirm if it will adjust the time or not. It's 2024, I want all my clocks to be accurate and not have to adjust them for daylight savings or power outages. Even battery clocks run fast or slow.

I think at this point most companies aren’t including wall adapters not only to save money but also as most people already have at least a few spare adapters on hand.

They charge 100 dollars for an ALARM CLOCK which is half of the price of the Switch AND they didn't even include a charger!

Tech isn’t cheap.
You figure it has a motion detection camera/device, internet access, a LED/LCD screen, speaker(s), the programming that went into it, all the Gold plated chips and connectors inside, along with the custom molded body.
The thing is basically a mini cpu with a mini monitor built in.
No cameras. Nintendo used infrared motion sensors. Keeps the creep factor away from the kids and your bedroom.

There are devices Google Lenovo and Amazon that have all of that, plus a large display and stronger soc for ai related tasks, and are cheaper than this.

They’re available on the Nintendo website right now exclusively for Nintendo switch online members before they’re released to the entire public. At the same time they did a launch at the Nintendo NYC store only.

Gah! I'm so very tempted to get this for my autistic son for Christmas. He loves clocks, and I would love something besides me to get him out of bed in the morning. I'm curious if it has a timer function. We need to set timers for him so he can remember to use the restroom.

Same. It's a neat little device but it's still $100 for a clock when my $10 I got from K-Mart over 10 years ago has been doing the job just fine. Hopefully it goes on sale on Black Friday next month.
@@zeospark9715 Between 1988 and 1993 I bought two Panasonic clock radios that I'm still using. I think that the cost was $10 to $15. They are not perfect. I have to turn up the sound to get any sound at all.

I got the email last night. $100 for an alarm clock is tough. It’ll sell because it’s a Nintendo item. I thought about buying it and just throwing it in the closet to collect it.

Nintendo collectibles are the easiest thing to sell to consumers unless they are overproduced Game and Watches. It's wild to me that someone would buy it and put it in a closet when it's meant to be used as an alarm clock. Or complaining about the price for an alarm clock, but it's perfectly ok for closet fodder because it may one day be valuable (will it even function in 20 years?) It just makes me laugh.
Ikr like am sure thing thing wouldnt even turn on in 20 years and there will be much more sought after options out there like Alexa stuff.

I feel like this clock would be even more appealing without any sensors. Just have a cute Mario clock that plays sounds from Nintendo games, period. The clock would be cheaper.

You can use a spare power bank and short usb type c cord to avoid using wall outlet and make it semi portable
There is an internal battery for storing the settings, but it can't power the unit. Not that I would use it for camping or a hurricane... Or any other reason really.
It's certainly an interesting device. Not for everyone but I'm sure plenty will enjoy it. Might be just a nice piece to display in the game room
Can you set the alarm to only go off on certain days (like Monday through Friday only)?
There is no battery in the Alarmo according to the “Ask the developer volume 14” posted by Nintendo on the Alarmo’s development.
Before watching this video I was like "meh." But I gotta say that is pretty freakin' cool. Great, now I'm out $100.

at that price its a crime they didn't have a screen made for the whole circle area. They do it for cars and watches so no excuses there.

This must be the most punishing alarm on the planet.
It won't get to me why people complain about there being no more USB adapters anymore in packages.
We have so many of those even from old phones and this alarm clock probably won't eat up much energy, so even a low-power charger from an old Samsung Galaxy should do the trick.
Personally I like the idea of a Nintendo themed alarm clock and the fact that they used sounds close to the 3DS and WiiU, however, I'm uncertain whether I really need it or not.
If we never get any more wall adapters from manufacturers, we won't have any lying around in the future. So it's an extra cost pushed onto the consumer, usually not advertised properly.

Nintendo making this on the side is fun! Its expensive but thats ok since its not a necessary item.
Nintendo recently released a communication patent right? I would not be surprised if it could connect to next Switch for additional widgets/ addons of games to be released. That could explain the sensor. Put your switch in front of the alarm and get stuff from your fav game on your alarm. Of course micro transactions involved to get waken up by your fav in game character
