I have a 4 month old male with me right now. Everything has been going super smooth until the last week or so. We've been getting a little stubborn lol. He's shaping up to be a fine duck dog though.
Are chessies more loyal than labs? My lab likes to go off with other people and dogs and doesn't want to come back, are chessies more likely to want to be with their owner, I've read that they're less sociable than labs
The only Chessie I've been around would go to the dog park and just sit with it's owner the entire time. It would run around and sniff when it first got there but would just hang out with my old roommate the rest of the time. I can see a lot of the newfoundland in this one (likes to sit and watch). I lived with this dog for years, and this one is a very loyal one family kind of dog. Friendly to other people but I've never seen her run off with anyone else. Even me living with it since it was a pup and spending as much if not more time with it than the owner (taking it for walks/runs more often than the owner would), the dog slept with the owner and would always go back to him when called. These dogs seem to have an attention problem and are very stubborn so training is a must. If I ever get a pup it will be a CBR.
My Dog Training Spot, yes this dog is wary when meeting new people and is only good with dogs after a proper introduction. You’ve done a very nice job on this video.
I have a rottweiler and once i went for a walk with him in the forest, play catch, and i threw the ball pretty far away, and he did not come back, when i went to check what happened, he bit a deer by it's neck, and he didn't want to let the deer, after 2 hours, he let her go but she died. He is very aggressive and i'm afraid, that once he will bit somebody just like that deer , what can i do about that ?
Mr Punch when you know people will be there keep him on a muzzle and lead and train them that people are okay, is he scared of them or is this just his prey drive
Only thing I see wrong is the drop you want him to drop in your hand don't want him to drop a live bird and have it dive in deep water and lose it otherwise good job
Richard Wilkinson, I agree with you. This video is more geared toward companion dog owners. For field work, owners would want to formalize various exercises and should meet with an experienced hunter or hunter/trainer with their dog.
Why don’t you start with the dog handing you the ball instead of dropping it? I don’t like to fake toss. Just by winding your arm back, you can achieve the same effect.
I wish for more videos on training Chesapeake Bay Retriever :)
I had one of these and he was the smartest dog I ever had -- the rest were mostly german retrievers.
They’re to smart for treats in my opinion.
What a cool dog, he's athletic for such a big guy
Love chessies, have had 5 your good with him.
I have 2 of them, they are brother and sister at 9 months old, hard to train both at the same time.

@@alexmyers7967I'm getting a 8 week pup in a week. Any tips for me. I'm super excited

Cleo Merritt depends on the lines, but yes some chessies are more aloof than labs

I've trained labs and shepherds for over 10 years. CBR are 10X tougher to train.
They can be determined dogs for sure. Some of the lines I have come across also have a tendency to be real edgy and sometimes aggressive.
