His calm saved the life of their passengers and crew.
+Julio Ramos he is a going to retire pilot , while can do no wrong in BA aircraft maintenance, pre-empt
The correct way to handle it I’d say. Panicking will only make a situation like that worse.
Really good how calm he was.
+Rainbow Crash Yes well he was a British Pilot flying an American made aircraft with American made engines so he did his best.
John Smith >implying americans knew how to build engines
Rainbow Crash Oh good. England is horrible to say the least
John Smith I guess I shall
***** No they aren't. British Airways had two engine variants for their 777-200ERs. They had the Rolls Royce variant (more common) and the *ORIGINAL* GE90 variant, like on this one.
Great job pilots and flight attendants!
Like a boss
Compressor spool failure due to poor welds in the compression chamber containment vessel itself, according to the NTSB...That's a critical portion of the engine, due to the pressure generated...Since the 777 is a popular long-range choice for many airlines, I wonder how many engines this flaw will affect, or will the entire fleet of 777s in general be grounded?
They would only ground the 777's that use rolls Royce engines. 777-300's use GE90 engines.
+Daelin Lis This 777 was fitted with GE's
What happen to the passengers after evacuation.
What was the cause of the fire?
+John Brown Obama
+John Brown Inept limeys who can't operate airplanes.
*****
Nope, I'm from Boston.
+John Brown They haven't determined that yet, but the NTSB is investigating. I'm interested to hear how it happened as well. Must have been a very catastrophic engine failure.
Cryptobuzzo
I could name one product in mark and spencer, UK; that is made in britain not made in china (like argos empty shell stuff) -- quid
OMG!! one minute later everyone would have died... someone has to take the rap for this... its unacceptable...
there are much safer Airlines to choose from these days
Idiot. British Airways didn't make the plane they bought it and put their branding on it. This could have been any airline.
+Antonio Yamashiro I will go with safer airlines mate: Singapore, cathay pacific,Emirates etc...etc
So you'd fly with Emirates. Ok. Emirates, the company whos pilots have pancaked 2 of this type of aircraft into the ground and crashed a 3rd on a taxiway.
The videos, with atc recordings, are all here on TH-cam.
I don’t think anyone has been killed on a British Airways flight…
WELL, the cause -- MADE IN BRITAIN
they are the sexy object ( hot as flame) in america -- they thought include the dance show, american got talents show
***** Airbus is French and Boeing is American.
+pacsatellite Nothing gets made in Britain, except ugly people with fucked up teeth.
+IndianPrince04 little bit racist that.
NeverLivedIn TheWhitehouse
Erm... its the British who built the engine...
+pacsatellite Some of BA 777's have British (Rolls Royce) engines fitted, however this was GE (a huge US engineering company), Amusingly Rolls Royce were quick to point out it wasn't their engine (they were hit hard when the Qantas A380 had that uncontained compressior failure)
I WOULD NEVER FLY BRITISH AIRWAYS!
+Keith Pahlman why that is the only incident for over 10 years look at all the over airways
I would fly with them again in an instant.
Why? When was the last time anybody died with BA? A pilot even managed to stay alive on flight 5390 after an incorrectly fitted windscreen fell off and he was hanging out the plane.
The engines failed while landing not long ago caused by ice crystals from faulty fuel after filling in China, but they still landed with only a few minor injuries.
+Keith Pahlman oh God yes, pass the second hand smoke
