This really makes me smile. My momma an I never missed a Saturday afternoon watching Porter. She took me to see Porter live when Norma Jean was still with the band.I was hooked then and have been ever since.
I don't know why folks rag on Buck Trent's electrified banjo? It's so twangy, countrified and unique to the Wagonmaster sound. I think its fantastic and that's about all I have to say about that.
Because he was a showboat, stepped over others playing, 3 times too loud. Not to mention it sounded like crap. That's coming from someone who plays banjo and other instruments. Buck was very talented, just didn't use it like he should've. He wouldn't have made it other bands, they wouldn't put up with that crap. A 5 string banjo is acoustic and should stay that way. If you want it to sound like a steel, then play a steel.
Oaks: Duane Allen (lead), Willie Wynn (Tenor), William Lee Golden (Baritone), Herman Harper (Bass). I think this was the last lineup before Joe Bonsall & Richard Sterban joined the group.
Willie sang for a brief time after Richard left the Stamps and joined the Oak Ridge Boys. They did an episode of Hee Haw with the Richard/Duane/William/Willie lineup and then Joe came aboard shortly later
Jeff Miller, Noel Fox replaced Herman Harper in 1968. Then, Richard Sterban replaced Noel Fox in 1972. Joe Bonsall replaced Willie Wynn in the fall of 1973 and their country music vocal lineup was set. Several personnel changes in their band also occurred between 1970 and 1976, prior to their switch to full-time country music in 1977.
Dolly Pardon started on the Porter Wagner Show in 1967 , She signed a 5 year contract, But stayed till 1974. Porter didn't want her to leave. She wrote this song for Porter " I will Always Love You "..Whitney Houston recorded it , for the movie Bodyguard. I love both versions, Dolly and Whitney's!!
The Oaks gospel groups last bass singer was Noel Fox, who took over that position from Herman Harper. Noel and Willy left when they decided to go country.
There are two that are currently Oak Ridge Boys. The lead singer is the same lead they have had since this time, Duane Allen. From Duane, the third one over is William Lee Golden, without the beard. I'm not sure who the others are.

the new mainstream country shows cannot compare to this talent.
The country music stars today do not have the same quality or it seems no ability to present themselves and introduce other stars to the audance .
Great show. Real talent, everyone. Gov. Davis was an excellent entertainer.!
Jimmy and this song are one of my all time favorites. Class act.
My dad didn't especially like country music but for some reason he loved watching the Porter Wagoner show.
May have been Porter's personality. We always loved his warmth & sincerity.
A lot of people tuned in to see Dolly after they got used to seeing her as a regular
I remember the summer of 1965 in Finley, Tennessee on Saturday watching Flatt and Scrugs and Porter Wagoner.
Like old music beautiful video
I HAVE ENJOYED THE PORTER WAGNER SHOW ALL DAY TODAY!
I have never seen the Oak Ridge Boys like this, I love it. I thank God for RFD-TV or we wouldn't have any country music shows at all on TV.
This is before any of the present 4 had joined. Joe and Richard didn't join until the 70s.
@@stephenszucs8439 The lead singer is Duane Allen, and the third from the left is William Lee Golden, both of the current group.
LOVE THIS OLD SHOW, THANKS FOR POSTING IT

There's sure a lot of talent on that stage.

Everyone has their opinion. If we all played the same way, we'd be missing a lot of entertainment.
I know you will not agree, so that's that
Why do some comments need to be edited?
We should all be adults here!
Bunk trent is a great showman
He also has a "Scruggs" on the neck. It would isolate or dampen strings. Earl Scruggs invented it.

You would never ever recognize Wm. Lee Golden here...
I prefer The William Lee look of today, him and me both are COUNTRY HIPPIES.
Herman Harper went to be a successful manager/agent representing gospel artists.

Porter has a great knack for finding great talent. Lily Allen's TV premier was on his show.
The Oaks gospel groups last bass singer was Noel Fox, who took over that position from Herman Harper. Noel and Willy left when they decided to go country.
my mom said it might have been in color but they were still watching it in black and wight XD
I heard John Anderson sing Enjoyed as much as I can stand. on CFR vids but this version is still tops IMO...Porter does a superb version
Being from Louisiana, we all know this song.
At 8:40, "Your Old Handyman" -Dolly Parton
Governor Davis recorded some sides with the Brownies back in the 1930s, just after Milton died.
Mac Magha is my cousin

I really love Porter Wagoner's singing but dear god keep him away from bluegrass songs.
He definently wasnt ready for Rocky Top🤣
Nice performance by the Oak Ridge Boys but the Statler Brothers performance of this song was better IMO.
