So it turns out that IMDB has a picture of George Cukor listed as David O. Selznick on D.O.S's page and I FELL FOR IT...Which is the worst because Cukor is literally one of my favorite directors and that's just the dumbest mistake. Anyway - wanted full transparency on that! Be Kind Rewind I was wondering about that too.. I read on Cukor’s imdb page that he looked a lot like Selznick before he lost weight.. so it’s not anyone’s fault. We love your work. Bless ya.
I hadn't seen Jezebel until years later, but I do think Bette Davis would have made an iconic Scarlett. A much different one of course, but she would have owned and defined the role, as Vivien did.
I saw a clip of the auditions (not all, but several) and I agree with BKR that Paulette Goddard was easily the best. But I doubt she could have pulled off the performance that Leigh gave.
@@screenactorsguilable I couldn't agree more. Vivien Leigh was stunning as 'Scarlett.' VL won the Academy Award for GWTW. Beating out actresses in other films like Bette Davis that same year. Vivien was absolutely outstanding.
The zoom-in close-up of Scarlett in that red velvet dress as she enters the party, defiance masking her fear and that bristle of her shoulder, Vivien's beauty and her talent hit me like a thunderbolt in that moment when I was a kid. She may not have made many films but this one immortalised her. Some A-list actresses with 100 credits to their name will never make this impact.
You might be my soul mate. I remember first seeing that scene when I was five years old. When Rhett leaves her at the doorway, she’s frightened, and if you look closely to her long earring it got snagged by her veil, like it was hesitant reflecting her fear. Then suddenly she transforms into this fearless warrior going to battle and at the very moment that her eyebrow raises like a cobra ready to strike, her earring drops and that image of divine unmatched beauty with the confidence of an army that I’ll never forget
Lisa A the dress is in Austin Tx along with several of her dresses and complete reproductions. I’m in Houston so I’ve seen them a few times . The party dress seems red on film, but in reality, it’s totally burgundy. There’s some great video clips on line of the restoration of these gowns. The curtain dress has faded into a chartreuse green/yellow . Vivien Leigh was extremely petite. You’ll see her bodice in the barbecue dress and she must have been a size 2 in our modern size chart. I know that her waist was 22 inches in the corset , my neck size is almost 18 lol . I’m an avid Vivien Leigh fan and have read almost everything I could about her since I was a kid. Alexander Walker has a great biography on her with many personal details you should look up. I’ve chatted with her great granddaughter, Sophie Farrington , who is my age and has a great TH-cam documentary on her great grandmother. Check them out . I think when someone has so much beauty and talent, there always plague with a curse. Vivien’s life had its accomplishments but mixed in were so much tragedy and heartache. She suffered greatly throughout many period of her short life. Check some of the documentaries out :)
It was the slight, almost imperceptible raising of one of her eyebrows that was the defining moment for me. She was brazenly defiant and unashamedly proud. Vivien Leigh was not acting Scarlett, she *was* Scarlett.
...and her Blanche DuBuois too! VIvien was outstanding as both Southern ladies. In an interview Vivien Leigh said that Scarlett was an "overcomer", as I recall, while Blanche "succumbed"
@@christopherbrown2706 I've read about that also, that the Indian part of VIvien's lineage was from her mother. I saw a picture of VIvien Leigh from when she had long hair and she had that beautiful, rippling, wavy dark hair that I see on people from India and that part of the world. If people had known about Vivien Leigh's ancestry I wonder if she would have been considered "colored" and not given the role of Scarlett.---Merle Oberon's Indian heritage was concealed, her own mother had to dress like a maid as part of the secrecy.
@@andrewbrendan1579 I was referring to Anglo Indians like Kipling- British settlers in India and their descendants. That said, you made an EXCELLENT point about Merle Oberon and Vivien's possible rejection (or typecasting à la Myrna Loy, IMO) had her complete heritage been known. Also, I wonder how Olivier would've reacted; would he have matured her anyway or distanced himself from her for his career and reputation?
Vivian Leigh is in my opinion one of the most beautiful women of all time. And I know Scarlet was not described in the book as extraordinarily beautiful, but on film - she needed to beautiful and she needed to know it. It's Vivian's cat-like feline charm that's alluring combined with a real beauty that is irresistible. And Scarlet has to be irresistible.
And she WAS Scarlet..in every mannerism, every facial expression, every flash of stubbornness and attitude! What a 1000% correct casting of a perfect person in a role..there is no equal to her beauty or talent- period!
she stands out among older stars. even among those who look similar, like hedy lamarr (talented, beautiful, and intelligent in her own right). it's something to do with her personality and talent. a lot of charisma in her that isn't easily found elsewhere.
Watch Gone with the wind and then immediately watch A Streetcar Named Desire, you'll be amazed at the level of talent this woman possessed, It is like two different actresses play the roles, she is that damn amazing.
Vivien Leigh was a movie Goddess. Even with her limited filmography, she still gave us two of the most iconic roles in film history... This and Blanche DuBois.
@@paxdomini6061 Yes, she was brilliant in those movies! Also, there is "St. Martin's Way", which is an earlier picture she did with Charles Laughton, before Gone With The Wind. Excellent as well!
Never in the history of cinema, has an actress made such a stunningly beautiful entrance to a scene as Vivien did in the birthday party scene in GWTW..... She was quite simply breathtaking!
My Mom used to tell us that when she saw the film in 1939 she gasped when she saw Leigh. Such a raving beauty and a brilliant actress. Her performance still stands up. Amazing.
My mother met Vivian Leigh when they came to Australia. When Mum met Vivian , ( along with a lot of other ladies at the Lady Mayoress' garden party). Mum said , as she walked in to be introduced . Vivian was quiet small and she was tired from their trip . Then she smiled and my Mother said that she was the most beautiful woman that she had ever seen .
Vivien Leigh was, of course, amazing as Scarlett. But I think Olivia de Havilland is very underrated as Melanie. It's hard to believe she was only 22 or 23 when she filmed that role b/c she seemed like a woman beyond her years. Her sweet relentless innocence is a great foil to Scarlet's artful and devious nature.
@@jaengen Olivia de Havilland was too pretty for Melanie as described in Mitchell's book. However, if you think that role was going to an actress who was plain, you are mistaken. Besides, calling de Havilland "fine" severely underrates her performance and overall talent.
@@authoralysmarchand4737 Joanne Whaley isn't a bad actress (I thougt she was great in Season 3 of Daredevil), it's just she had the bad luck of working with weaker source material and following up on an Iconic performance like Vivian's...

As a child when i first saw gwtw and they first showed vivian on the screen, she took my breath away. I thought she was one of the most beautiful creatures i had ever seen and understood why all the men wanted her.
I asked my younger sister years ago who she thought was the most beautiful woman ever ( we were teenagers). She made a quick response and said Vivian Leigh. I thought about it and said yea, I can’t argue that. RIP Beautiful lady ❤️
She was definitely one of the most beautiful. If not the most. I liked Hedy Lamar too and on top of that Hedy Lamar was very intelligent. She patented many inventions she discovered.
Vivien is a formidable powerhouse. Despite battling mental illness and painful separation from the great love of her life, she remained a great actor until the end. Your memory is well preserved within our minds, beautiful Vivien. 💐❤️
Hattie McDaniels speech as she walks up the stairs with Melanie after the death of Bonnie was one of the most amazing pieces of acting ever. Even her Oscar acceptance speech was heart wrenching...
Even tho she couldn't sit with rest of the cast at the hotel which hosted the Oscars bc of her skin color. AND she had to take the freight elevator instead of the regular elevator at the hotel. Hattie was even derided by the Black community at the time bc she accepted playing a role that stereotyped Blacks (maids, butlers, etc).
That was AMAZING! So ahead of its time in terms of realism. The whole movie was incredible. And the book was unforgettable. The description of Scarlett and Rhett's strained marriage was heart-rending.
Yes!! This would be really interesting! Also, non-english speaking actresses who have been nominated as well, Fernanda Montenegro in Estación central, María Sandino Moreno in Maria full of grace, Yalitza Aparicio in Roma, Penélope Cruz in Volver 🙌
The only fault I ever found with this casting was the first line of the novel: "Scarlett O'Hara wasn't a beauty." And Vivian Leigh was a very beautiful woman. But ok, that's Hollywood. :-)
@Dudebro13454 Bro there's a difference between beautiful and pretty. But like someone else here wrote, characters often see Scarlett as beautiful because of her charm.
It was "Scarlett O'Hara was not beautiful, but men seldom realized it when caught by her charm, as the Tarelton twins were" That sentence shows people didn't notice anything but her charm and personality.
Vivian Leigh is my Bipolar Icon. There aren’t too many famous and talented (to this level) bipolar people, really. Not when you consider that it’s not that rare a condition. I think a lot of that has to do with the stigma it brings- even now. We’ve gotten better about mental illness to a point. By that I mean that stigma has reduced- but mostly only for depression and anxiety. And it’s good that’s happened, they are the most common mental illnesses. But bipolar still seems to be in that category of “scary” mental illnesses, along with others like schizophrenia. And those of us in this latter category haven’t seen that much of a reduction in the stigma of our illnesses. So it’s nice to have such a talented woman to point to. An icon in her own right, respected by her industry and beyond. And perhaps if she had lived now, when medications are more advanced than they were then, we’d have a more extensive filmography. But, I’m happy with what we got. And I’m very happy to have someone like Vivian Leigh to point to and say “see, we’re not so scary!”
Ah, the problematic faves... I know the feeling, probably because - the movie is fucking good - still very impressive after all these years - Vivien Leigh kinda made me bi 😉 - I was old enough to know white people were scraping for excuses for their terrible behaviour (antebellum and 1930's) 😤 But I draw the line at Birth of a Nation. I don't care about its cinematographic qualities. That movie can fuck itself.
@@annademo Well technically from an art standpoint, no white is not color nor is black and nor is grey but lucky for you we're not talking about art we're talking about people and while the use of black as to describe people of African descent could also be considered nonsensical it is in fact not but you know what is nonsensical? Your response to my initial response which, for all intents and purposes,is just completely and utterly wrong. Good night and have a blessed day tomorrow.
What’s it going to take for you to quit your job and do this full time, because waiting a month between videos is killing me! (It’s awesome. You’re awesome. I love the quality of your content and knowledge here.)
You never mentioned that Vivien wanted to play Scarlett from the moment she read the book. In her mind SHE WAS Scarlett and she did absolutely everything to get it. She was of course the most perfect actress to play it. I love the movie and Vivien was extraordinary.
6:04 I feel like Vivien was being perfectly described there. This movie still makes me stare at her performance in awe; she dominates the entire movie from start to finish, you barely see anything else but Vivien. And it’s true, I wanted to not like her character, but it never could happen. The raw, dogged tenacity to survive she displayed could never have been played by anyone else imho. Great doc thanks for this!
I love Vivien Leigh and I am a huge fan of Gone with the Wind and I always say this: I can't even imagine anyone else playing Scarlett than Vivien. She IS Scarlett!
The British Leading Lady who is best known for playing Southern American Belles. The only best actress winner who rightfully deserved her 2-2 record!!!
Vivien's perfect and brilliantly nuanced performance is the only thing that stopped GWTW from becoming the histrionic melodrama that it could have so easily become in lesser hands. She is the anchor that holds the ship on an even keel throughout the film's entirety .
@@christinecollins6302 His character wouldn't have carried the film though. Despite being the male lead, Rhett was only a side character. Scarlett was the main character and the POV character, and if she'd been played by a lesser actress, the move would have been as rick says--a histrionic melodrama--regardless of how well Gable played his part. It might have still been a blockbuster, but it probably wouldn't have had the enduring power that it does.
I could watch Vivien Leigh over and over again in GWTW and I have. Her acting skills surpass anyone as she expresses layered emotions and she could truly portray the innocent girl caught up in puppy love and the mature, confident and sexy woman the role demanded. To say she was absolutely amazing is an understatement.
Alys Tarot Moonscape it’s funny you mention that. Plenty of people before the modern era had excellent bone structure. Looking at the bones of hunter gatherers, they seemed to have far superior jaw growth and facial bone density. They also had perfect neck and tongue posture, as do modern hunter gatherers. It is with the introduction of processed foods and unnatural lifestyles where we see asymmetry in faces. Vivian Leigh has excellent neck posture and was most likely breastfed (as opposed to being bottle fed). She also probably had a pretty tough to chew diet.
Well, plastic surgery has existed in the way we understand it since the 20's. And it's been used in showbusiness even earlier than that. It just wasn't as widespread.
Randon Lambert i heard that Leigh had an O’Hara mentality in real life when it comes to men so I don’t know if it was hard for Leigh to play such a colorful character.
As an absolute Vivien Leigh fan, I really appreciate the time and wonderful things you said about her. Did you know that she is practically in every scene and could work 12+ hours on the set. She became exhausted and was very near a serious breakdown when making it. I also found her mesmerizing in Streetcar named Desire. Thanks so much for recognising was a supreme talent she was.
You are right. Vivien Leigh does not get the credit she so richly deserves. Thank heavens for David being patient and operating an independent studio. One you see Ms. Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara, it is impossible to imagine anyone else. I would love to get a decent high res color picture of her with that one eyebrow arched when she comes into the party. Magnificent!
I loved Sophie's choice and Meryl Streep. But......Vivian Leigh was outstanding....I watch it at least once a year and I see new things in her interpretation of the character each time. She is a treasure.
I named my daughter after Scarlett 22yr ago, I've been a fan of Vivien since I were a child , I literally watched the film last week after we lost the beautiful and talented Olivia de havilland , The whole cast was perfection, I also have wuthering heights with Laurence Olivier & Meryl Oberon, I love these classic films ❤
If you read the book and watch the movie, you'd understand the power of Vivien as an actress. She completely embodied the spirit of O'hara conjuring amazingly the ERA of civil war.
very very well done. I thought she was pristine in this role and she became my favorite actress. Thank you for commending Vivien and giving her the praise she deserves!!
@@susanalopez5052 I also notice that a lot of British actors play Americans on tv/movies and you can' tell they are British, the accents are that good. Americans(with rare exception) can't do a British accents.
Seriously, especially considering British actors like Christian Bale, Emily Blunt, etc. who frequently blend like chameleons into American roles so perfectly that they seem more American than actual Americans.
I read the book before seeing the movie and had a very different mental image of Scarlett. So when Vivian Leigh appeared on screen I was taken aback. However it took only a few seconds for my image to disappear: Vivian was Scarlett!
It’s because the southern spoken during the civil war period didn’t really sound like the southern our ears are used to. It still retained a lot of the enunciation from England . So Vivien accent has a beautiful tone . Later when she did the accent for Streetcar named desire, since it was modern Louisiana, her accent sounded more robust and pronounced.
@@anthonyhebisen not true. Then why do black people sound just like Hattie McDaniel? Vivien did a great job at the accent espeically compared to the cast though it was inconsistent.
She should get an Oscar for surviving a hellish shoot full of drama in itself----long 12-18 hour shoot days, personnel firings and rehirings and back to firings, an uneasy working relship with Gable (who secretly wanted to cut down her scenes but proved unsuccessful), and last minute changes in everything from costume refittings to dialogue rewrites. Somehow in the end all was worth it.
I read where one of her classmates said she was even more beautiful in person - if that can even be possible! She said that when she walked in a room, guys would literally just stop and stare. She is so captivating and an excellent actress. She WAS Scarlett O’Hara❤️
Dear Isabel, Thank you for this posting on "Gone With The Wind," and the sublimely talented Vivien Leigh. I found your BeKindRewind posts accidentally last year and have followed you ever since. Your passion for classic film actresses and movies is palpable and so well enunciated in your posts. Thank you for bringing attention to this film, which regardless of its flaws concerning the War Between the States and slavery, is an important film because of its depiction of a complex character, Scarlett O'Hara--from her life as a young girl who loses almost everything and must find a way forward to a woman that at last fully realizes her mistakes. Vivien Leigh captures all of her strengths, weaknesses and nuances in a delightful portrayal and deserves more attention in her film career than she has received. There is so much to say, and I hope in the future you will come back to her career. Merci beaucoup.
Excuse me but if ANYONE tries to remake the movie "Gone with the wind" you'll never make something better then the original movie. No one is replacing Vivien and Clark as Scarlett and Rhett! Do you agree?
@@andreasingleton9111 the original movie is a shell of the book. I'd like to see an adaptation of the full story. Book is pretty tragic. She's so ruthless that she abandons her kids in the book.

@@ingriddubbel8468I think underrated meaning unlike a lot of legendary actresses from the golden age of hollywood (Marilyn Monroe, bette Davis, audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, etc) Vivien isn't highly immortalized and glamorized in.contemporary media and pop culture the same the aforementioned actresses are. I think it's bc those aforementioned actresses particularly Marilyn and audrey, are immortalized for both their talents, as well as iconic status of their films, their fashion styles, personal lives, popularity of their time and having personal political beliefs (feminism, racial equality, sexual liberation, etc) that are relevant today. Viven always said in her lifetime she preferred to be known as a multifaceted talented actress as suppose to be both that and a worldwide movie star/celebrity. That why she might considers underrated based on how her talent isn't immortalized in today culture
@@Kevin-rg3yc I sort of agree with what you said about Vivien Leigh. But let me add that Vivien Leigh will always be iconic, because of her stunning and Academy Award winning portrayal of Scarlett O'Hara. Look at all of us on a public message board talking about the iconic 'Scarlett.' GWTW is to this day in 2020, still considered in the top ten movies EVER in cinema. Wow, it hardly gets better than that. There are mixed opinions about Marilyn Monroe and her acting ability. Many people feel sorry for her that she was adopted and didn't have a great childhood, and unfortunately didn't end up real well and died young. Too bad for both Vivien and Marilyn when they passed in the sixties it was right before lithium became available.
I consider this "Be Kind Rewind's" best video. I have watched it multiple times. Without Vivien Leigh, GWTW would not be the ultimate classic film it is today. Leigh breathed life into the cardboard character of Scarlet O'Hara. No other actress could have done it like she did.

I will always be sad that there is no footage of her iconic theatrical turn as Lady Macbeth. Seeing all the depth she brings to Scarlett, one can only imagine what a powerhouse she must have been as Lady Macbeth.

PLEEZE! Bette would have played the HELL out of that part, at every age required, and we would no doubt be rapsodising her performance, but it was not meant to be- and Errol Flynn would have made a lousy, albeit pretty, Rhett! Bette, as in so many things, was so right!
@@eveevelittleevil7422 Errol would've made an Ashley. I love Vivien so much, I cried when you talked about how underrated she was. She was such a great actress! The things I'd do to watch her on stage. Sidenote , Silvia Schulman, Selznick's secretary at the time, was also important in convincing him to film Gone with the wind (she also wrote a great old hollywood novel called I lost my girlish laughter, and I just take any excuse to recommend it)
As one who has included "Gone With The Wind", as one of my all time favourites ever since I first saw it as a youth, I marvel and am also thankful that it has never been attempted as a "remake". Clark Gable as "Rhett Butler" would be difficult enough to replicate. However I simply cannot imagine any other actress carrying the role of the capricious and tempestuous, "Scarlett O'Hara", as so utterly believably as Vivien Leigh. Luv this page! Don't worry about the Cukor/Selznick pic mix-up. At RKO they were frequently mistaken for one another, despite the fact that Selnick was somewhat taller. Cukor loved to tell the story about when he was chatting with Selznick's mother Flossie and mentioned this to her. She looked very unhappy and said, "Oh, I don't think so." Cukor patted her hand and assured her, "My mother doesn't like it either!"

Yup, same here.
I keep forgetting that Vivien Leigh was British. That’s how iconically American her Scarlet O’Hara is
Vivien had east indian blood as well.
Anglo-Indian
...and her Blanche DuBuois too!
They got Vivien at the peak of her beauty and youth. I've never seen anyone with a perfect profile as hers.

She was... PERFECTLY cast!
she stands out among older stars. even among those who look similar, like hedy lamarr (talented, beautiful, and intelligent in her own right). it's something to do with her personality and talent. a lot of charisma in her that isn't easily found elsewhere.
I think Hedy Lamar would have done a great job too.

Vivien Leigh was a movie Goddess. Even with her limited filmography, she still gave us two of the most iconic roles in film history... This and Blanche DuBois.

@Ed Miller Thank you for the correction. I knew what it was, but didn't realize I said "Way." Love her in that movie! Stay safe, stay clean. PEACE+
I do enjoy Wuthering Heights with Merle Oberon but Vivien would have been a brilliant Cathy as well.
Never in the history of cinema, has an actress made such a stunningly beautiful entrance to a scene as Vivien did in the birthday party scene in GWTW..... She was quite simply breathtaking!
Absolutely
My Mom used to tell us that when she saw the film in 1939 she gasped when she saw Leigh. Such a raving beauty and a brilliant actress. Her performance still stands up. Amazing.
My mother met Vivian Leigh when they came to Australia. When Mum met Vivian , ( along with a lot of other ladies at the Lady Mayoress' garden party).
Mum said , as she walked in to be introduced . Vivian was quiet small and she was tired from their trip . Then she smiled and my Mother said that she was the most beautiful woman that she had ever seen .
Roberts, in Pretty Woman, has also an iconic entrance scene wearing a stunning red dress.

I thought Olivia was 18 yo when she made GWTW?!
She was fine but probably too pretty for the role.
@@jaengen Olivia de Havilland was too pretty for Melanie as described in Mitchell's book. However, if you think that role was going to an actress who was plain, you are mistaken. Besides, calling de Havilland "fine" severely underrates her performance and overall talent.

Hattie McDaniels speech as she walks up the stairs with Melanie after the death of Bonnie was one of the most amazing pieces of acting ever. Even her Oscar acceptance speech was heart wrenching...
Yes I have always said that also
If I ever rewatch the movie I have to skip that scene because Hattie just breaks my heart with how she says it.

She is the most beautiful actress of all time.
The only fault I ever found with this casting was the first line of the novel: "Scarlett O'Hara wasn't a beauty." And Vivian Leigh was a very beautiful woman. But ok, that's Hollywood. :-)
Agree!
@Dudebro13454 Bro there's a difference between beautiful and pretty. But like someone else here wrote, characters often see Scarlett as beautiful because of her charm.
She wasn't? Why did everyone in the book want her?
@@Godblesslaci She knew how to manipulate people. She never understood the difference between mamipulation and authentic love.
Stephen Fry is bipolar too!

rick holt to be fair- Gable was flawless and it’s baffling that he was snubbed for the Oscar
@@christinecollins6302 His character wouldn't have carried the film though. Despite being the male lead, Rhett was only a side character. In the age before plastic surgery, Vivien Leigh's facial symmetry and bone structure were quite remarkable!
Alys Tarot Moonscape She really was beautiful. I’ve always thought her beauty was very unique. This lady new how to “act” using just her eyes 🙂

I actually think Vivien’s performance in “A Streetcar Named Desire” is even better than her Scarlett performance. Probably because she was a more mature actress by then. But her Scarlett performance is a strong second. You did an excellent job on this profile, have an eloquent and interesting voice and an obvious love and knowledge of film. Thank goodness Vivien Leigh was cast. Her performance as Scarlett was flawless. No other actress could top it, which is why GWTW can never be remade.
At the beginning of GWTW Scarlett is 16, no way Bette could be believable as a 16 y/o
No way most of those actresses could have been believable as both young and older Scarlett. Except Vivien Leigh and perhaps Paulette Goddard.
bette davis was entirely too unattractive to play that role.
PLEEZE! Bette would have played the HELL out of that part, at every age required, and we would no doubt be rapsodising her performance, but it was not meant to be- and Errol Flynn would have made a lousy, albeit pretty, Rhett! Bette, as in so many things, was so right!
No way Paulette could have played a 16 year old. Paulette was too womanly for the part.
@@eveevelittleevil7422 Errol would've made an Ashley. At least with his looks he could've competed with Gable and been believable as Scarlett's infatuation and always deferring to him over the gorgeous Gable as Rhett. No one would choose someone like Leslie Howard vs Gable. Howard was horrendously and egregiously miracast as he himself knew.
Still one of the greatest movies of all time. If ever there was an actress born to play a part, it's Vivian Leigh.
Gone with the Wind has been my favorite movie since I was 5 years old. Thank you for acknowledging not only the spectacular acting, but also what a complex character Scarlett was/is. I've seen the movie more times than I can count, but it still takes my breath away. Also, thank you for acknowledging the fact the film was so Confederate forward. It's never something I don't think about when I watch the film, but it's an important discussion. I would love if you did a video about that in the future.
P.S. you've got a new subscriber!
A great video. I'm glad I discovered this channel. It's refreshing to come across a well thought out and presented backdrop to this classic woman and timeless movie. Well done! Props.
Thank you SO MUCH! I was obsessed with Gone with the Wind through my middle and high school years, and this was before the more questionable aspects really entered the public consciousness. I read the book so many times I could quote lines, and adored the movie. I also loved Vivien Leigh. This video is everything I hoped for.
aahhh i love this video. Vivien is my favorite classic actress and I'm always so gutted at what a tragic story she had when she was so special. Thanks so much for this perfect work of a video!
I have to just say this. You make absolutely superb videos! Even with my own almost encyclopedic knowledge of film, I still learn amazing nuggets in your videos. And all of them are GOLD! Vivien Leigh is one of my all time favorites, and this was just a joy to watch. You may take a long time to do videos, but its always a quality product! Thank you! Eager to see the next one...till then...amazing job!
"If It Ain't Broke Don't Fix It..!!"
Hopefully, you never watched the 1994 mini-series sequel entitled "Scarlett" with Joanne Whalley and Timothy Dalton. It was horribly *AWFUL*. 😵💫
Damn.......This was a really........really.....REALLY ...great video.Work very well done.Covered so broadly yet continuously engaging.Man...I can't say enough.....you deserve an Oscar yourself.
Wow! Occasionally I have to stay in a rubbish hotel away from home for work and last time I was here you posted one of your excellent videos, and now I'm back and you've posted another one! It's like you aim to make my life less boring and crap - thank you so much!
Your videos are beautiful, smart and well-researched, and your passion shines through. You deserve to have way more subs!
shes back back back again ! thank you so much for these videos! outstanding work
Gone With The Wind was my Grandmother’s favorite film and book, she saw the film in theaters when it originally premiered and treasured her first edition copy of the book (now in my collection). She sadly passed in August of 2021, but not before I had the chance to show her this video. She always enjoyed behind-the-scenes glimpses at her favorite films, and this video was no exception. I just wanted to share this with you, as I randomly remembered this video earlier today and realized it was one of the last things I shared with her. Thank you for making a great video that is now a part of my memories with my Grandma.
From a Film Studies M.A. degree holder, I salute you! Superb summarization of the casting of Scarlett O'Hara. BRAVO!
I am so glad you're back with this release!! Big fan and watching from the Philippines!
Wow. It's always a special treat when I see you've posted a new video. Like watching an old Hitchcock movie on a Saturday afternoon with a carton of Ben & Jerry's. I missed the sound of your voice.
Your videos are the greatest! The content, structure, how well-researched everything is - just everything!
I think Vivien Leigh is severely underrated. I always say to people that I think Vivien Leigh, in my opinion, is the greatest actor or actress ever to have walked the earth. She really is something else entirely and is sublime in every role.
