Just got an E1D delivered to me today and it’s just great - unbelievable value for money at £475 (UK) and plays graet straight out of the box … got it in the classic finish which I love … have a couple of Martins which I love dearly but this is great for the garden or chucking in the back of the car for trips away … very happy !
You have hit on a key point and discovery of Eastman acoustic guitars is their resonance....just amazing sensitivity, amazing headroom, defined projection and musical tone! Really superb guitars costing well below their materials, design and craftsmanship....one reason Bourgeois has chosen them to build their Touchstone series. BTW the E1D with sapele/spruce has unbelievable resonance and is hugely loud! BTW...keep in mind these guitars are new, just wait for what a few months of playing will do!
E1D is a killer guitar. I put a K&K pure mini in mine and I could not be happier. I hate to admit it, but it sounds better than my USA made dreadnought. I also love the satin finish. Just so practical.
Recently bought the E10D and haven't looked back once!! Played the E20D same day, and the E10D just resonated more to me. Big difference between the 10 and my other go-to, a Taylor 314ce. And just what I was aiming for!
@Gregory Carpenter, @Cody Conrad,... The E1D sounds great to my ears, because I like the balance... That is the Sitka vs. Adirondack difference. Adirondack is like a knuckle sandwich, Sitka more like a nice hug from a beautiful girl, warm and comfy!
I just recently discovered Eastman guitars, and I'm thoroughly impressed! I purchased a used one this week and it sounds and plays as good as a Martin I once had for a fraction of the cost!
All three sound great. Lots of bass and lots of clarity too. I think they sound as good as some of the Martins and Gibsons you've demoed. This was particularly interesting to me because I've played an Eastman dreadnought for over ten years. It sounded good when I bought it, but now, it's amazing. And it's the loudest acoustic guitar I've ever played.
I have the E20D and love it. I've owned Martin 18's, 28's and 35's, Collings D1A, Bourgois, Huss and Dalton Gibson J45 and Advanced Jumbos, Santa Cruz and Guilds. The E20D keeps up with all of them. Picking up an E10D next week.
That E10 , and I'll call it figured Mahogany is beautiful. Ive had 3 different D18s and none of them looked anything like that. Im gonna have to find a Eastman dealer and check them out in person
I know I am where are you out with videos take a listen to this one this week. Is there some of the Eastman guitars that we might see up in Springfield. These are not the guys though,
Sympathetic resonance is why acoustic guitars always sound better when you try them out in a music store acoustic room. Eastman are so responsive that if your stomach gurgles the back will pick up and amplify it right out the sound hole. It's important to roll the right sleeve up or the buttons will clickety clack against the bridge. You need to roll the left sleeve up as well. For symmetry... Paul, you're right about needing one of each. This year I bought both an E10D-TC and E20D-TC with the plan of taking my time deciding which one I like most and selling the other. I am doing exceptionally well at taking my time.
@@kamarienedwards1757 Thanks for asking. I kept the E10D-TC. I found that the mahogany sounded more woody and open. Also, I could play loudly or softly and it sounded great either way. The rosewood E20D-TC had so many overtones and resonance that, even though it sounded fantastic played softly or with a regular strum, play it hard and it tended to get muddy. Also, I have two other rosewood guitars, so it was a bit of a duplication. For stage work I would go with mahogany and for recording, it would be hard to beat the rosewood. If you go with the rosewood, clip-on tuners have trouble differentiating between the note you picked and resonance of other strings. It helps to mute whichever 5 strings you are not tuning.
I have to agree…I preferred the e1d…it seemed much more balanced and appears to be the least expensive of the three. Great review guys, ditto Quinton flannel looks good on you…but don’t get carried away with that 😂
I wonder what size strings were on these three guitars. All three were very big but not clear. Of course playing/hearing these is person is the best. But judging from many other videos these two wonderful guys have presented, I would not pick any of these three for Blue Grass single note picking.
I like Eastman for sure ( I have an E20P) though I have several Martins. Quinton what pickup do you like and or use in your HD 28? Maybe a little info on your set up for playing live. Dang for the price the E1D sounds awesome. You probably already did this so will look for a video review on Eastman 00's. Looking for a fingerstyle guitar. Thanks for the video. Cheers!
They all sound very nice.....each a little different....but nice. At the price point they're at , if you couldn't make up your mind which one to buy....one could purchase all 3 Eastman's for the price of one of the "other brands" ! ! LOL !!! Not familiar with Eastman. Do they make 00 & 000 size guitars like these with electronics ??
these Eastmand may not be a Martin D28 But for the Average working Stiff . It would hold its own agenst a Martin D28 and Im a penny pincher . looking at the Gibson J45 my problem is I like old Wood 30s 40s . But this EastMan is making me look .
Eastman make some terrific instruments but they still need to pay more attention to QC. I read all the good reviews and mail ordered an E20ss. Lots of issues with knots in the side wood and worse - they had polished through the lacquer on the back - an area about 3" x 4". Not good. Great dealer though, exchanged it without question and the replacement was perfect. I would say buy in person and play before you buy.
I've had the E10D. Should not have sold it. I currently have the E1OM, which is an amazing little guitar, even though it was a 'B' unit (had rosewood bridge and fretboard). I liked it so much, I just bought the dread version 2nd hand for €450.
Great vid, great playing as usual. Would be happy with any of them but I'm becoming more and more of an Adi fan so E20D for me. Little more nasally to my ears than the E10D but sounds a bit more opened and focused. I think it has the same ring frequency as my old ears :)
ok that 1D is a winner. i have an eastman 305 mandolin, and it is a killer instrument. i'm liking this 1D as a slightly more expensive and better-sounding alternative to the Yamaha dreds that are in the mid-$300s. very interesting proposition here, for an all-solid wood instrument. hmmmm....
Maybe it's the recording for the video, but the rosewood doesn't seem louder than the hog to me. My experience with Martins: D28s are not necessarily louder than D18s.
If you listen on a hefty system bass on the Rosewood is bordering on overpowering. I’d struggle to sing with it due to the mids disappearing under the bass and treble.
I particularly like the comparison at the end with smooth transitions between guitars and the models of the guitars shown onscreen! All three guitars sound good. This is interesting to me because on impulse, I bought an Eastman dreadnought about eight years ago, and I sold the guitar I had been playing. I've been very happy with it. It has an Adirondack top, and the sound is big and beautiful. Sounds good with both fingerpicking and flatpicking. I've never felt the need to have another acoustic guitar.
You can buy all 3 and still save $100 over the Taylor 517e. I was comparing the Taylor 517 vs. Martin D18. I think the E10D is now in the running... and in a huge lead.

I am hesitating between this one or martin road series e10
If you need to plug in, then E10 would be a good guitar. If you just want an acoustic, then this is hard to beat for the money. @@nicolasmayrand7157

My favourite in this comparison is the E1d. It sounded a bit warmer and was all there out of the gate!!
I agree. For me, Sitka always seems warmer than Adirondack. The 10 and 20 seem like a wall of sound, which is not my preference.
I agree also I thought the E1D sounded the nicest and it's also the cheapest out of the 3.
I agree with Quinton, I like the E1D the most. It seems the most "alive and ready"...
I own the E1D. It has the least gloss finish. I tested all three and found the E1D to be the most balanced and crisp.
Just paid for the E1D, getting an Anthem installed as well. Thanks for the review, it helped my purchasing decision
May I ask where did you purchase your guitar and did they add the anthem in that same store?
I just recently discovered Eastman guitars, and I'm thoroughly impressed! I purchased a used one this week and it sounds and plays as good as a Martin I once had for a fraction of the cost!
I traded a 2010 Gibson SG Classic 2 years ago today for an Eastman E10D. Never looked back. Never really even missed that guitar.

The Eastman e20d is a very loud guitar. I’m blessed to have one. I put Gotoh tuners on it too.
Theirs no better reviewers than these 2. I enjoy every video 🤘🏼
That 1D sounds exactly like my 1D. Thats manufacturing art.
I know I am where are you out with videos take a listen to this one this week. Is there some of the Eastman guitars that we might see up in Springfield. These are not the guys though,
I have an E3D that I love and oddly, I liked the E1D sound the best.
What would be comparable in a Yamaha? FG3?
It would be interesting to see a comparison against other brands of comparable guitars.
I' ve gotta review, Jumbo Maple been evaluated?
Wow. Sympathetic resonance! Just imafgine what you'll discover after your first day! The E10D is my favorite, based on this video.
All great guitars!
E1 always sounds best in these vids to me.
I love my E20D, but I wish I would have put out a little more money for the E20D TC with the "aged" top

I'd have to try the guitars myself before I decided which one I liked the best. They all sounded pretty good.
These Eastman acoustics sound great, and the wood on some of them is really striking. The price points make them doubly amazing, especially the E1D.
Eastman E20D compared with Martin DCPA4 Rosewood, any thought?
I like them all, but the E 10 D is my favourite.
don't know if it's "the best" but it's the most dreadnoughts indeed
E1d sound more focus than other both
The E10D has a Adirondack top

EL Holt Quinton recently released a review of his HD28 where as I recall he mentions the pickup he uses.

Yes! They have E100SS LTD which have Adirondack tops and Mahogany back and sides with Rosewood necks, ebony bridges bone nuts for about the same price

Great review, thank you. 'Gitane' means gypsy in french, no doubt a reference to gyspy jazz. It's pronounced 'jee-tan'.

Impressive sounds from all. Another to consider is Larrivee which competes very well with Gibson, Martin and Taylor but less expensive.
ilove the e1d
Very simular all very nice cheers.
Nice!
E1D 👌🏻
Why can't you wear black on video day?
How many guitars do you need? Just one more!....LMAO
It would be cool if Eastman were to build a dread with a three piece back....
Maybe it's the recording for the video, but the rosewood doesn't seem louder than the hog to me. My experience with Martins: D28s are not necessarily louder than D18s.

Man if eastman made like 00-18/28 square shoulder equivalent I would be all over it. I already have the E10SS (slope shoulder) and it’s fantastic
