This is a poetic obeisance to Goddess Kali, the powerful and terrifying aspect of Shakti. She is the power which releases the soul from the chains of illusion. She is the destroyer of evil. She's shoonya, the nothing and Poorna, the complete at the same time. She's beyond Maya or illusion.
As Kali danced on request of sages Patanjali and Vyaghrapada, Nandi played the drums, Narada sang, Chandra and Surya recited the poetry and all the celestial beings praised the divine dance that Kali performed at Thiruvalangadu.
