You must first of all pray and ask the holy spirit to open the eyes of your understanding. You must truly surrender your strength and knowledge for Him to teach you Himself.

I remember when I started, it was as though I was reading stories, but I kept doing it until I began seeing life and light leaving the letters I was reading and entering me. You must prove it that what you are doing is beyond averting culpability. What you are looking for is the bread of life and the living water that sustains men.
To add to all that has been said. I once heard the Late Dr Myles Munroe say he read the bible cover several times but he didn't understand but he kept at it until one day it broke out for him and began seeing things. He mentioned they were not new things but the Holy Spirit needed to have something to work with. So become acquainted with the word.
