I'm part of the C100 cult and I appreciate the encouragement that the camera is still viable and OK to shoot with in 2023-
It’s my favorite camera now. Not just because it’s cheap, I can afford to buy Komodo if I wanted to, but as an indie filmmaker I don’t see a point. Thanks for watching my video
@@HankDoesFilmmaking Thanks so much - I've been an addict to GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) way too long. It's a convenient excuse for not getting started because my "gear is not good enough, or too old", yada yada. Lot easier to go over specs than to roll up your sleeves and actually Create something!
You are both informative and entertaining, great video overall
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!
I love how you compared your lake shot to the movie Outsiders, and that’s a special look!! Thanks for the video my friend!
Cheers from the US!
You picked wisely, great footage 👍
Great!!
It's an interesting concept for a video format, I'd love to see more, maybe with some different lenses as well. I've been considering a c100 for a long time and I'm likely gonna by one soon enough. That being said, I feel like the music in the video could get some tuning, that's my only complain so far. Keep it up!
:)
Thanks for video idea. As of music - there’s a lot to learn for me still. I’ll improve
I just acquired a 600D and I’m thinking of making a feature film with it as well. I’m already working on a feature with an iphone
It's a great camera! I was planning on making a film on 550D a long time ago. With right settings and approach you can make a really nice film with 600D!
i have the mark ii, i think both models are underrated. they upscale pretty well too ;)
I haven’t tried upscale yet but good to know 👍
Hey Hank! Just wanted to thank you for selling me on the C100 (and Sigma lens). I can't wait to shoot my next video with that combo. Also, I really appreciate you repping out there for those of us that have a small (or non-existent) budget
You're very welcome. You'll love that camera, it has everything one needs. Also if you have any video requests for future feel free to comment and I'll cover it. Let's inspire more indie filmmakers to make more great films!
Here's a tip: if you're shooting handheld, decrease your focal length. It's too shaky. Another tip: use a tripod. The camera should only move if there is a reason for it to move. In other words, movement should be motivated.
Hi, I have found a c100 mark 2 model. Considering that I live in Iran, it is very difficult to find old cameras. Is it worth skipping it and looking for mark 1?🙏🏽
Hi. I shoot on Mark 1. If you can get Mark 2 at a good price then get it instead. Those cameras are practically same, except for autofocus and recording codec.
Im looking for a lens for the mark ii, any suggestions?
Depends what you’re trying to accomplish, but my favourite lens for this camera is Helios 58mm. Old but gold. Keep in mind crop factor tho.
@@HankDoesFilmmaking Thanks, I'll look into it.
Nice!! I bought this camera for 450$ dollars, you think the price is great? this is my first video camera, thank you!
I think it’s great price! You have real cinema camera with literally everything you need to make a film. Even sound as long as you don’t use built in mics for wide shots. Congratulations
Sorry Hank, but I'm not going to make your day. I feel your video does not do the C100 justice. Your shots are soft with some them out of focus and underexposed. Your grade has added a purple cast to the images as well. I own the mk2 and get far superior results from both the internal recording and using an external recorder. I grade in DaVinci Resolve and upscale to UHD for TH-cam. This is the quality I expect from the C100. th-cam.com/video/XSEvgz4ReXs/w-d-xo.html
I’m not tech guy, I’m a filmmaker. I make movies. To me that’s all that matters sir. Thanks for watching.
I saw your video. It is documented. And it didn't feel cinematic at all. On the contrary of this video mark 1 of Hank's cinematic pleasure 🎞️🤌🏿
The image I was looking for is dreamy. And I felt it in Mark 1
@@saman.artman6845 I wasn't aiming for something that met that overused term "cinematic", I was pointing out that the camera needed setting up as the images are underexposed and soft.
@@UKHeritageRailways I think your criticisms are mostly valid for a filmmaker, especially with regards to colour grading (purplish sky 3:33) and hit-and-miss focus (at the undemanding res of 1080p pretty much any lens should be sharp enough). OTOH the footage you linked looks to be shot with narrow aperture with generous depth of field so of course it would have been easier to achieve good focus. Exposure is debatable, i.e., what's too dark; it depends on the look you're going for. I personally see nothing too underexposed here.
