      True. The family law bar is the only winner in a divorce, though -- since the Gates' kids are all over 18 -- at least the painful issues of custody & parenting time are not going to be litigated. I tried my hand at family law when I first entered private practice: Even telling a client that s/he will likely spend a decade in prison is preferable to explaining to a client that his/her time with the children will be limited.

      @@LamLawIndy My father worked as a court appointed mediator in family court mediation and often suggested that certain divorce attorneys that frequently came through his offices would purposely undermine mediation because it resulted in more billable hours.
      He would take me to work when I didn't have school sometimes, and I remember he was talking about one lawyer to another person in his department, when a judge who had overheard the conversation stuck his head in the door and said he thought another attorney whom he was known to clash with in court was really working with him so they both could bill more hours.
      Could they be disbarred over ethics for that? I know it'd be hard to prove, they'd just say they were representing their clients best interests. Would the The Bar even care?

When she found out she was told it was too late to stop the wedding as her ‘face was on the tea-towels ‘ And she was told by the Queen Mum not to worry as it was just a fling and Charles was going to dump Camilla once he married. Diana was young and naive . The woman who married Gates knew before she married him that he was going to keep seeing his girlfriend . She obviously married him for his money imo. Why didn’t he marry his girlfriend ? You’re right maybe the wife had enough ! Maybe they had an open relationship and she met someone else she wanted to be with ?

      @Taiwo Omotosho I’d rather be rich and unhappy than poor and unhappy.! Lol! Seriously though , Poverty and lack of money doesn’t buy happiness either. People throughout the world are d.ying because they have no money to buy food and fresh , clean water . Many people are miserable without money too and many people have money worries .
      We’re all told that money doesn’t buy happiness but I don’t see the rich giving away their money to be happy! In fact they just look for opportunities just to make more money. Money gives you the freedom to live your life as you want . Eg If you want to be an artist , you can , you don’t have to worry about the bills . If you want to travel you can. Money buys power and respect . People don’t respect the homeless guy begging for money in the street . Money isn’t everything in life but it’s darn important and great to have imo .

    Phoebe, Bill and Melinda's youngest child turned 18 in September 2020. My guess is at that time Melinda went to Bill and started working out the contract for their divorce. Once Phoebe turned 18, there were no custody issues so it made sense to wait until that time. After the specifics of their divorce were worked out (which would take a number of months or even a year because of their immense assets plus no pre-nup) they officially filed for divorce. Realistically speaking, I'm sure the marriage has been over for a long time. This is all conjecture on my part, but it makes sense. These situations are all about negotiation. The uber rich live different lives than the average person.

They cite the high divorce rate as their proof so they have got a handy little self-fulfilling prophesy going now. Encourage people to cheat on their partners and then cite the rising divorce rate as proof that they were justified in cheating and getting divorced. Brilliant. I would think it would be a lonelier existence continuing life with a partner one has grown apart from, perhaps married for the wrong reasons or any number of scenarios. People have been shaken out of complacency and are looking at their lives with new eyes and new mindsets, and as a result a huge shift is happening. My grandma ran off with my grandpa's (still married) best friend, leaving my dad and his brothers to be raised by my grandpa. She returned, asked for a divorce and tried to buy back her sons' affection. Now, I didn't know any of this growing up. In fact, they were best friends once their divorce was done...to the point that I didn't know they were ever married or divorced when I was growing up. They didn't act like they had ever been married, and they certainly didn't act like they had gotten divorced. They never put up walls or made us compartmentalize our relationship as a family. They spent holidays together with us. They visited each other. And my grandma cared for my grandpa following his stroke until he died (even though he had remarried, but that b*tch disappeared.) • @cherylmockotr
      @cherylmockotr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Simple. A successful marriage is one that does not end except with death, i.e. a failure to keep the vow of "til death do us part". By definition, a divorce is a failed marriage. It doesn't mean it's not justified, but it is a failure.

  • @purpleslurple5149
    @purpleslurple5149 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Although happily married myself, I've stopped thinking of divorce as "sad". There are certainly ugly divorces that are incredibly painful, but they don't have to be that way. And any time one spouse gives up on the relationship, I feel like it's really no longer healthy or fulfilling for either of them, so the dissolution is still the best outcome and in that sense can be celebrated as a relief. But, I also feel like it's ok to change your mind or your plans or goals after 20, 30, 40+ years (or fewer!)--in most areas of life we consider that healthy! Expected, even! And if you really have a great partner, you can discuss these things, and potentially decide that the marriage (which is already a weird, made-up construct, tbh.) isn't the best path forward. Why waste your life being dissatisfied?🤷🏻‍♀️ Now I lean towards celebrating people for being adults, having healthy, sometimes difficult conversations, and separating amicably. I would certainly never tell someone to stay in an unpleasant relationship just because they'd already wasted so much time in it! Or because it had been happy once. That's the sunken cost fallacy! If you separate amicably you can still rally together for your children and even each other. Seems mature and healthy. Not trying to tell people not to put work into their relationships, and that they can go through difficult times and stick things out and that is also good and healthy. But if the relationship is fundamentally flawed, and it cannot be reconciled through effort and counseling, etc. it's ok to acknowledge that--and move on. At 60, nowadays, you may still have 30-40 years ahead of you! That's an incredibly long time to be unhappy!

      Lmao good one. It's true though, she could probably stake out a piece and they'd never see each other, he wouldn't even know she was there. Crazy to imagine having properties so large this is actually totally feasible😆

    Money can buy luxury, comfort but not happiness and love.

    "Gray Divorce" is just a term to group up people into categories thrown out there by people that have no idea what average people live like. Divorce happens at any age for many different reasons. Mostly because people are either selfish, or stupid, and those conditions aren't mutually exclusive to each other.

      Gray divorce happens because people who have been married a long time reach a stage that they have issues that have not been resolved and that this may be their last chance to find happiness. Mind you...happiness is very subjective and fleeting. Different choices.
