My 1st Day In Seoul, Korea. Let's get first impressions of Seoul, Korea
Today is my first day in Seoul, Korea. Let's start our Korea journey by getting some first impressions of Seoul, the capital city of Korea and also the biggest city of the country. About 10 million people are living in Seoul and about 20 million in the whole Seoul metro area. I am always fascinated by these huge Asian cities. Since I will spend a few weeks traveling Korea, I do have some time to properly explore Seoul and see what this city has to offer. Join me on my first day in Seoul, Korea as we explore the city, try some local food, try to navigate around this mega city and get some general first impressions of Korea.

I love your positive attitude and focus on the good things in your travel videos. They're really informative for anyone planning a trip. I already subscribed. Greetings from Japan!
very nice, Thanks Ken for the tour :-)
Which part of Seoul is this
2013, Namsan, Seoul: Bought a 2-way cable car ticket, went up. Went to N-Seoul Tower ticket booth, paid, got ticket. Left cable car ticket and wallet at the ticket booth. Went up, spent an hour up there, realized I didn't have my wallet or my ticket. Panicked. Looked all over. Thought about it a bit. Retraced my steps. Hmm, let me go ask the lady at the ticket booth, 하지만... 한국어를 잘 못해요. Nervous. Didn't even need to ask, everything was just there where I left it. No one took it. Loved Korea forever.
Welcome to S. Korea! People know it’s morally wrong and unethical😅
In my school years in Korea in middle school, I had to learn ethics as a subject too 😆
Korea and china from what I know if people find something they will either try to return to you if they saw it was yours or they will leave it where they found it. In China it's the same and there's always the cameras.

Being curious to learn about the local lifestyle & interacting with locals... all in a very polite and calm manner! Many travel vloggers should take notes.

I'm a Korean. I'm enjoying the video. In Korea, it is legal to wear military uniform! And the supermarket shown at 33:42 is a small supermarket in Korea. A large supermarket in Korea is about the size of IKEA. If you have time, I recommend going to Seoraksan Mountain. It's very beautiful and there's a cable car so you can easily hike up there. If you go to Seoraksan Mountain, I recommend visiting downtown Sokcho, which is 20 minutes away. Sokcho is a representative summer resort in Korea where you can see the clean sea. Do you like looking at the stars? If you like it, please see the stars at ‘Seoraksan Ulsan Rock Milky Way Point’. It is Korea's representative star observation site, and you can photograph the Milky Way along with Mt. Seorak with a camera. Have a nice trip! I'll comment again!!
Thanks a lot 🙏

Singil Station, where your hotel is located, has a complicated train station. In Hamburg, Germany, it is the intersection of Yuban and Svan. Mainly the ground-based trains and underground units are complicated to get out of the basement because of train transfers.
I like Cheonggyecheon Stream......crystal-clear water!!!. jungle's vibe but actually in the centre of Seoul......
Get a T-Money card. It's so convenient to have one. You can use it for transport (metro, bus, taxi, airport shuttle, etc.) and to pay for stuff. You can always refund the balance before you fly out.

Where do get this card?
You're so sweet! Going back to the uncle's store and buying something from him. I thought it was so funny for him to just rip the flag off the bag and sell it to you. You also ate an entire family's portion of pork neck (moksal) at the beach :)
You're right that the PC signs are internet cafes. Korea has a huge online gaming culture so people would go there to game!
Haha yeah it was a big portion of pork, but so delicious 😁
As you said there are a lot of internet cafes in Korea but that is a gambling house. '포커' means poker.

Yes, that's a typical local neighborhood supermarket. Korea doesn't have discount grocery stores like Aldi or Lidl, but you can get the best deals for fruit and veg at local street markets.

Please visit other parts of Seoul - there are so many cool places to visit. Samcheong-dong area behind the Gyeongbokgung Palace and Hanok village feature very clean, organized blend of old and new architectures.... you can sip traditional coffee and eat rice cakes at these places with scenic views. There is also a Samsung district in Seoul (LOL), along with the financial districts in Yeouido (known for a really modern mall called The Hyundai). The other upscale area is near cheongdam-dong and apgujeong rodeo area where you can really get a glimpse into how local Koreans with means live. There are also huge chain convenience stores like E-marts and Lotte marts that are way bigger and much more organized than this hole-in-the-place you ran into... and there are also new, up-and-coming hipster areas such as Seongsu Cafe area (many young Korean couples here), Hannam Cafe area (with many celebrity sightings), of course Gangnam/CoEx Mall area, Seoul Forest, Hongdae (huge uni party/artsy area), etc, etc. Every neighborhood in Seoul looks and feels different. It looks like you toured mostly the touristy and older, run-down areas of Seoul so far... and it's actually kinda interesting that the kind ladies towards the end of the video that helped you are not even sk locals but tourists from Southeast Asia lol. Cheers, mate!
Thanks for the tips 🙏
Yup its a small typhical local supermarket. And.. usually, PC rooms like that are often illegal gambling houses 😂
And I'll definitely recommend the War Memorial of Korea. It'll be interesting. You will never regret
I love seeing your uploads Ken! You carry a very down to earth, non-judgamental energy with you so it's very enjoyable to see you travel to different countries.

Namdaemoon(south gate) is No.1 National treasure. Namdaemun Market is a traditional market that is hundreds of years old. It is old, not standardized, or has many imitations. There are many cheap things, many rare things, and if u r lucky, you can find treasures.
It was fun to watch your video. My home country. I want to visit someday.
As a Korean, I can say that's a very typical supermarket in Korea😊

Fun video, and you did a good job navigating for a 1st time visit! The metro card I think you returned at the subway was the T-money card. T-money card can be used for almost all forms of transport (taxis, subway, train, bus), and to pay for food/goods in convenience stores like GS25 for example.
Thank you, was nice vieo, looking forward to your next day video.
Thanks for watching 😊
1. There is a huge supermarket at Seoul station.
2. I highly suggest visiting the small Tongin market, you buy chips that allow you to buy at the various food stalls. At lunchtime, school children fill the place, lovely.
3. Make sure to take a walk along the old city wall: Either on the west, perhaps up Inwangsan Mt (339m) or in the east near Ihwa Mural village, North of Dongdaemun.
I love this. 😊
Markets are cool for visitors but I prefer going to the food court at the major department stores (Shinsegae, Hyundai, Lotte). A lot of food options to choose from and they usually have hypermarkets and dessert shops too.
Korean cuisine is ever growing and changing unlike many other cuisines that prefer to stay in the orthodox or the "right" way, and it embraces everything from traditional to modern.
It is also one of few cuisines that leaves not much waste. Every part of an entire animal is used from head to bones.
The core of Korean cuisine is the seasonal wild vegetables & herbs (나물) and fermented sauces (장). If you want something really authentic, try out some of those restaurants that serve traditional course meals and temple food.
Hope you enjoy seoul and rest of the cities in korea. Welcome 🎉🎉
Thanks a lot 🙏

If you go south to the Busan area, as a German yourself, you might want to visit "The German Village" (독일마을). It is located in the southern archipelago. Here you can get some German beer and also visit a small museum showing how Koreans used to go to Germany to work. The village is really like if you are in Germany.
If you go there, please say "Hello" from me to the owner of the German Bakery House (독일 빵집) further down on the main street "Dogil-ro" .

33:42 The market you visited is a small market in South Korea. The hypermarket is similar in size to the hypermarket in your country.

Love this video a lot, beautiful city !!
Let me explain about Korean stores. Convenience stores (most stores, relatively expensive, but with lots of discount opportunities), supermarkets (market you've been to, relatively cheap and deliverable), hypermarkets (three to five in small cities, cheapest and most diverse products sold, mainly by large companies), department stores (literally department stores) in Korea. It's hard to find a store like DM/Rossman in Germany.

I think all places where you visited is all good local place!
