It never gets old. 👍🏻 I almost bought one new back in the day from Coppers. They were on sale for $310.00 The year was 1987. Had I bought it I would still have it today.
Amazing radio Cobra 2000. Tks fer sharing. I have 148 for 42 years and still working in my shack. One year ago aquire one 146 for Digi comms in 27,245 USB and works fine too. 7351 and good contacts.
It was my dream radio too. My Neighbour had one and the matching desk mic and a Starduster on the roof. Oh the memories. I got older and went down the Ham road, oh I love that radio even now, tnx for sharing.
Beautiful radio. That thing it’s practically a unicorn very rare to see them in that good of shape especially with the matching speaker. You have an amazing friend and radio😆
No need to. This isn't an old tube set with high voltage inside. I've never had a capacitor problem with any 12 volt radio I've ever had. Now, when I add a tube set to the collection I put a 30 volt current limited supply on the B+ for an hour or so and monitor the current. The last one to blow up on me was a Hy-Gain 623, but it took several hours before the high voltage caps blew up. Linears are altogether different. Because of the high voltages and currents it's cheap insurance to replace the caps.
Gorgeous radio 390. I had 1 back in 2001 dual speakers digi scan and ping modules. Can't beat the old uniden/cobra cb ssb radios THE Best. Ny157/2IS158/WWS-3703/SWL#68
My buddy Needle Bender / UDX 99 had one of these radios back when they came out. He had a Digi Scam UFO and a Silver Eagle mic on a Lightning 6 on a 50ft Tower. I always wanted a radio like his, now I have one. So lucky to have good friends. Cheers My friend:) UDX-390
Yes. This is a fine radio. I had one maybe some fifteen years ago and it was the highlight of my station. I want another badly and started bidding on one yesterday until someone else’s means was greater than mine. I wish them the best with their new acquisition and hope they enjoy it as much as I did mine.
There's too much money floating around on fleabay to buy anything for a decent price anymore. Sellers want inflated prices for everything and won't negotiate.
My friend had one of these back in the mid 80’s. He had a Super Penetrator 5/8 antenna 60’ to the bottom. Everyone swore he ran power because he got out so far
I don't know what state you are in, I am in Tn. I did not get excited with the Radio Shack (S_ _ t Shack) SSB unit you showed. I have been on CB since 1968. Most of what I mess with now, does not compare with the older Lafayette, Tram, Browning, Hygain, etc... Now a days it is even hard to get a quality antenna (you need to design the antenna set up). I am deciding what antenna to install on my new truck. My current antenna choices are a Breedlove 3" uhf puck mount with a Sirio Turbo 5000 base load and Times Microwave LMR 240 Coax. Or I might adapt a 3/8 X 24 Hustler HQ27 to that mount. The Hustler is up to par with the older Antenna Specialist, K40's and the Wilson 1000's (they are better than the 5000's) The K40's work great until the coils get wet (so they need constant replacements). I will also have a quality mount with a 2M 70CM antenna. There are no great radio mounting locations on the 2022 Silverado crew cab. The console goes all the way to the dash. Mounting a radio to the side of the console is suicidal, the power seats can do serious damage to the radios and console. I am toying with the tiny President Bill European model I have laying around. The only way I will probably be able to use the RCI is if I can put it in the console center compartment if it fits (I haven't checked yet). What a waste of space.
Yes, these new vehicles are not very radio friendly are they! I am sure you will figure it out as it sounds like you have shit tons of experience. Be safe. Cheers my friend.

Hello 101, If you search YT, there some of your guys Down Under that are WAY into these radios. Maybe even farther along that the Boys in the states. Thanks for watching.... Cheers
While it seems you were given this one, back in 1999 I bought one for $15.00. I'll admit, I had to repair it, but the fix was replacing the AN612 ic chip in the Transmit chain.
@@390WagonMaster Unfortunately as I now live full-time in a 5th wheel trailer, 2 years ago I had to get rid of a LOT of stuff, including the Cobra 2000, a 148, and a Galaxy DX88. Another friend Gave me a 148F that needed some work.
Geesh ,Nice Rig man, Does it smell like Piss? the flashbacks.... Last one I saw like that belonged to a very very old man. Unatanium for young bucks in the 80's
I was watching these on ebay , and they are selling for $500.00 and up , so i bought a galaxy DX2517 new in the box for half that . my favorite mobile cb is the Courier Gladiator . looking at your new radio , it is a beauty !
It’s not about these radios being better than another radio it’s about these radios are a part of CB history. They don’t make them anymore and they’re getting harder and harder to find.
Plug it in, turn it on, and hook it up. It's a 12 volt radio and unlikely to blow up. A guy at work gave me a SBE Console 2 that belonged to his father and I just plugged it in and turned it on. Amazingly, the crystals are dead on frequency. Nice radio.
This rig stays stock. That DDS looks cool but not in this rig. I want one of those kits, I just can not figure out what rig I want to MOD. Thanks for watching
I'm not worried about caps in the radio itself, it that freq counter, they build up shit tons of heat and those caps break down. Stay tuned..... Thanks for watching
I own MKIII's, D-201 and an A, CPI's so IMHO the 2000 tops all of them in RX. IDK about TX as much because if you can't hear them you cant talk to them. The 2000 is a top performing street legal CB Radio. Cheers and thanks for watching.
ERIC, I, like you have owned many rigs throughout the years and always heard about the mighty 2000GTL. When these rigs were a hot item I was dealing and using the top export rigs of the day. They offer more channels, modes like FM and in some cases more power. So in my opinion there was no reason for me to own a 2K, however I heard people talking about the great receive. I know the 2816 PLL Madison was said to have a receiver equal to the 2K, so back in the late 90s I found a clean Madison and soon found that indeed the RX is as good if no better that a lot of export rigs. After many years of wanting to add a 2K to my collection I get the chance to get a clean untouched rig. So yes it is the radio of my dreams, well that and a little "click bait". Has the 2K let me down? In the sense of a "street legal" CB radio..... NO! Outstanding receiver, very stable frequency wise on SSB and great adjacent channel rejection! DOWNFALLS in order of importance.... 1) Low RF power output. 2) lack of extra channels. Both faults can be taken care of, one by adding a RF Amp and the other by adding channels. ( DIGISCAN would be my preference) . I know this is not news to you however maybe a viewer that is not familiar with the great 2K may find this interesting. Thanks for watching and Cheers.
@390WagonMaster I'm only giving you heck. The last 2000 I had was a late 1992 model and imo, the best one I had. I traded it off abd the owner butchered it up
I've been into radios for decades. Both CB and HAM. I even worked for a CB shop. But after being a HAM Operator and owning both gear. HAM gear is far superior than any CB. Not that CB radio's are bad. My favorite are the older Unidens. I've owned hundreds. And getting information for traffic on the interstate. The 11 meters is needed. But far as top quality HF rigs. The Japanese iCOM, YAESU, Kenwood, Alinco, Ten-Tec your just not going to beat with the best CB. I've had plenty Cobra 2000's. They are a fine well-built rig and so are a lot of older CB's. But CB's can not compete with HAM rigs. The 11 meter band is a very tiny window of communication. When you add HAM to it. The communication world is endless. 73's from KK4YLF

Telling you right now... On CB and 10M the Cobra will destroy a 7300.
I have 2. Best radios ever!
What you think about the cobra 2000 GTL ?

To my knowledge Cobra doesn't make base station radios anymore, but you can buy a brand new Galaxy 2540 which is a great base station.
