The unidentifed killer completely annihilated the little boys' bodies but only took a few slices at the adult witness, then ran away taking nothing from the home? As the kids say BFFR.
I have friends whose daughter was born in hospital and was so severely ill, she never made it out of hospital and died 2 months later. Her parents, if you watched them minute by minute, went from being like a statue, to crying hysterically, to laughing and joking, to angry at everyone. This is why I do not believe that a parent reaction should be taken into evidence in such a way that the media did with the silly string.
This was my reaction to my mother’s sudden death. I actually got the news when I was at work, and I KEPT on working. It wasn’t until I came home and my then fiancé (now husband) rushed over to me that I broke down crying hysterically. I worked 2 jobs at the time, and NO ONE knew except the one HR person I spoke to to ensure I had the funeral day off. My brother had died only ONE MONTH before this. I fully believe my mother died of a broken heart. With his death, I was actually relieved in between fits of tears. He had a long (over a year) horrible battle with cancer-he was in so much pain at the end and just an utter shell of the person he was before. Knowing he was no longer suffering to me was reassuring. I missed him terribly, and I still cry 6 years later at things that remind me of them, or when they come up in my thoughts. People that worked with me at the time didn’t know of either of their deaths, partly because talking about it and getting sympathy/empathy from anyone would’ve been too much for me to handle. if anyone knew, and they looked at me at the time they would’ve considered me cold and unaffected.. which would’ve been so far from the truth. I suffered in silence, I picked up smoking. I lost weight unintentionally. I started running to numb the feeling. I cried on breaks, I cried in the bathroom. I didn’t want anyone to see because drawing attention to it would’ve amplified my pain in those moments. But on the outside in public, I was still laughing, still carrying on as normal. So I can completely understand going from stoic, to laughing, to hysterically crying.. they were all phases I went through for months.
It was 1996 back then and that part of Texas sounded so small minded and judgmental, just because Darlie cared about her looks (like most women let’s be real) and took care of herself then they portrayed her as materialistic etc, but lots of people like material items, doesn’t make them killers & the prosecution was small minded and so judged her from the off. It’s now 27 years later and we now have more info out there about such stuff, but I’m not sure if Texas has caught up with the rest of the world!!
Very true that people grieve differently…but what also seems odd to me is that they would have that graveyard party in the first place. If someone had crept into my home in the middle of the night and stabbed my babies to death and tried to kill me, and the person had not been caught, I would be in hiding, terrified for myself and my remaining child. I wouldn’t be planning a party, inviting the media and the neighborhood kids. Anyway, it wasn’t that video that convicted her, it was the forensic evidence. The video may be part of the reason she got death, though.
Same with my work colleague whose son was in a wheelchair and when he passed from his disease they were criticised for smiling. Because he was finally pain free after being in pain all his life.
There was significant forensic evidence from the crime scene. The scene was staged and things strewn around over the blood marks. The knife was from her own knife block and had been rested down a few times ..... A sock was found outside with the childrens blood and was used by Darlene to not have as much blood spatter on her. The mesh grille on the window was cut from the inside , the list goes on. The children's lives maybe we're not insured for very much as mentioned $10.000 each but just think Why would someone break in to kill innocent children who were lying on the lounge floor nearly impaling them !!!!????? No Darlene is guilty I'm certain of it.
That is what the appeals process is for. It is a safeguard to check and double check everything concerning the trial, the evidence and everything in between. Darlie's case has been in the appeals process for years. There have been many tests and retests on her behalf. Unfortunately for her, every test has only reaffirmed her guilt.
I don’t get how she could sleep through her kids being murdered right next to her though? People keep saying how could the husband sleep through it but he was at least in a different part of the house. I do find it strange that a random stranger would make the decision to kill the children first because it would make more sense to take the adult out whilst they sleep and then the kids. It’s sick but it doesn’t really add up to me
@@Survival86Gamer okay so that’s why I would find it odd for an intruder to come across two kids sleeping on a couch with a parent and make the choice to kill the kids first, seems way too risky because I think it’s safe to say that most wouldn’t sleep through that
Sorry Emma the overkill on the children and lack of it with her is what convinces me. Also I've slept on the sofa with my boys. You could not take one stab him to death then the other without waking me. The children did not die instantly, did they make no noise. Her story makes no sense.
I am not sure entirely of the timeline, but it is possible that if she was slashed in the neck first whilst she was sleeping, the blood loss would have been so immediate that she would have come around groggily afterwards. Not saying that's what happened and I'm still unclear on when she supposedly sustained her injury, but I just don't think this 100% means she is guilty.
@@elliew9789 She slashed her own neck just before she called 911. And even she said that she was attacked after the boys. How she knows this when she claims to have slept through it,...although in other stories the tale was much different...who knows?
Tina Juke, Devon died very quickly, but Devon didn't. He was able to crawl toward the stairs, where Darlie attacked him again (according to the physical evidence), but it is doubtful that either boy made any noise. Can you imagine their shock and Damon was stabbed in his lung, and he couldn't have made any sound or little at all. When paramedics arrived, he was gasping for air with everything that he had, while his mother refused to go near him. He died in the arms of a stranger (who had to leave his job for a year because he was so traumatized).
I think the nail in her coffin was her saying she got her throat cut while asleep on the couch while there was no blood running down her back or anywhere on the couch... it was all on her front and at the sink.... at the sink!
My cousins wife lost a child. His wife goes to her daughters grave every birthday and has a party. Silly string, balloons everywhere. She didn’t kill her daughter. So silly string does not mean she killed her sons!!
@Katie A She was a major suspect (she and her husband both, but he was cleared. She never has been) and YES, she did invite the media to film the party. For money.
Regarding Darlie being "despondent" when told her boys had died. My partner died (natural causes) in my home whilst paramedics were present. They worked to revive him for several minutes before transferring him to hospital. Shortly after arriving at the hospital a member of staff came to tell me he was dead. My initial reaction was "I know" then I very calmly asked to go to see him and when I saw him I disassociated. I already felt like it wasn't him and just the shell of him. I then spent time doing paperwork at the hospital comforting my mother who was with me, comforting the paramedic when they were upset they couldn't save him (he was only 39) and comforting his sister when she arrived. I was then very matter of fact about his funeral arrangements. My grief and realisation didn't hit for several weeks. Grief and shock effects people differently and to make judgements because people don't react how you expect is wrong and certainly shouldn't be used against them in a court.
Absolutely!! I feel such a shame and guilt for not being overtly emotional when I was at the hospital and they told me my father died because in all these cases they always talk about the reactions of the family members when they get the news and they judge their relationships and characters by these. I've been taking my father to different doctors for the last 11 days every damn day and I watched him get worse and worse by the minute. I struggled for hours to make him eat a spoon of soup because he had no appetite and refused. I was alone all this time, completely confused and overwhelmed. When they told me the news I was already emotionally absolutely exhausted and I did not have a sound to make after all we've been through. There's absolutely no "normal" reaction to death. I wish people trying to set the norms for "normal reactions" would also tell us how to grieve as well so that I'd know what to do in the grieving process, instead of staring at the wall all day and cleaning the house obsessively like it's nobody's business. I wouldn't be so lost in grief if someone were there to tell me what to do. Yet they feel like they have the authority and knowledge for the proper reaction? Get the f out of here. I'm so angry about this.
Esin, I know sympathy from a stranger on the Internet means nothing but I hope that knowing someone understands and has also had a similar reaction to a loved ones death helps you feel less alone x
What you cannot understand here is that your partner wasn't MURDERED, he died of natural causes, in this case, you are not responsible for his death, nobody is actually. You obviously do not understand that Darlie Routier's children were MURDERED ! Put yourself in her place. Would'nt you do anything in your power to find out who did this ? She didn't. Not mentionned ONCE to the media that she wanted police to find out who did this horrible crime.
You did such an unbelievable job on this story!!!! I’ve watched just about every documentary made on this tragedy, but hearing it told with an empathy & kindness & knowledge that only Emma can? *chef’s kiss*
I want to give my take on the birthday party a week after the murder thing: Idk man, when people die the things they loved still matter. I think by choosing to separate mourning for him and celebrating the time they spent with him, they were able to preserve his memory in a way proper for him specifically .
I agree. I know everybody acts differently in grief. When I put myself in her shoes, and I think about one of my children dying and then the next weekend being their birthday I don’t know what I would’ve done. I think it would be a huge roller coaster of emotions. I could see you having a couple of moments of celebration for the birthday and then having a huge breakdown moments later. I feel like some part of me would want to act like what was happening was not really happening.
The helpless need to do SOMETHING may have lead her there. I lost my partner while I was looking after him. We all knew he was gonna die but that didn't mean I understood and accepted it on a gut level. I would go for long drives anywhere - looking for something.
Spot on! And let's remember, a silly string party at her son's grave for whatever reason(s) doesn't mean she's a murderer. That's only 1 piece of the very large puzzle.
Like the recent murder of Tristin Bailey. It was a lovely service where they focused on sending a positive message, and nobody is blaming them for anything. In fairness, her killer was obviously the guilty party from day one. I’m sure there are plenty of memorial services that have had cheerful moments. I remember the press going wild about the silly string and I remember thinking “well, that proves absolutely nothing!”
I think it's so very unfair to judge the silly string incident, and I am so sick of people thinking they know what they would do or how they would react in situations, even you Emma. Being a mother and trying to imagine something horrific is nearly never accurate. I have lost a child and grief is so damn weird. I knew his death was coming and I thought that when it happened that I would be a wreck, hysterical breaking down and unable to cope. But I wasn't. I was calm, rational and to an outsider I may even have looked cold and uncaring. I was numb, I didn't know how to handle the emotions, so I just didn't They turned off and all I could think about was the practical. The first birthday without him, I was almost manic. I made cupcakes and wrote birthday cards and made my husband sing happy birthday and blow out candles with me. If my son had been murdered, would that make me guilty of it? To some people, apparently, yes. But it was desperation, to get through that day, I desperately needed to pretend everything was ok and "normal" and this horrible thing hadn't happened to me and my family.
There is only evidence against her thought. That’s what makes her guilty. Bcuz if you knew someone killed your son so close after his death date not a while after it was so close to his death date and she did all of that. But if she knew some intruder did this, 100% they would be focused on getting Justice so that intruder can’t kill any other kid… also to get Justice for your son which is all that matters in that situation… not to celebrate his birthday. It is kinda sketchy. I’m sorry you lost your son fr and yah people do grieve differently but your fr Crazy if you so that wasn’t sketchy at all
@@blakehillsdale9590 True. But, silly string is NOT a murder weapon, so therefore it should’ve never been shown in the courtroom. They also illegally filmed them during that time. They had a memorial service for the boys in the morning that they could’ve shown instead. It wasn’t even Darlie who brought the silly string, if was her sister’s idea.
She’s guilty. There were red flags. Some that knew her as a parent say she was emotionally and verbally abusive. There were also concerns about the lack of supervision of her children by the neighbors. I think she was very, very depressed (there was a suicide note found in her journal) and enraged by the financial situation in which they found themselves. If you look into it further (which I recommend to everyone) you’ll see A LOT of evidence that points to her guilt.
There’s just something in me that does not believe she is innocent. I’ve always been conflicted with this one but deep down I just don’t believe her story, If she woke up at the sound of her baby just rolling over in the cot, how did she not hear her two children being savagely stabbed. I dunno, it’s a confusing one for me. Something in me tells me she’s lying and she did it
@@sharonkv777 How do you explain the unknown adult finger print and the sock outside the home with a lack of blood trail. If she moved that sock there would be a blood trail from you know her gaping neck wound.
@@LuLuBell-97 The bloody smudged fingerprint known as 85J is only unknown because it doesn't have enough points for identification. However, this is what we do know about it. It is a small print, and even Darlie's own paid expert (Dr. Janz) said that it more than likely belonged to a small adult female. In 2015, a YSTR DNA test was done on it, to determine whether or not it contained male DNA. It didn't. Darlie has never been excluded as the source but every male in the world has been. As for the sock and no blood trail, Darlie cut her neck AFTER she took the sock down the alley, so there wouldn't have been a blood trail. But if an intruder had actually cut her neck, it would have been covered in her blood, as she did bleed profusely. Instead, the sock contained none of her blood, a nickel sized spot of the boys' blood and Darlie's DNA in the form of shed skin cells in the toe. Also, you need to understand that her neck wound was anything but gaping. It was a superficial non life threatening wound that only cut through skin and fat per her surgeon, Dr. Santos' testimony at trial. In fact, Dr. Santos also testified, that he would have sent her home from the hospital the same day had it not been for the circumstances of why she was there.
You're basing your opinion on ignorance of facts. I'll tell you why you are wrong. But first I'll let you know that the haters will never tell it like it happened because they want Darlie to be guilty. Here is the real story about the crib. When the baby moved around in the crib the crib wheels squeaked and woke Darlie up. The haters don't want that to be known. The crib wheels squeaking is in the transcripts.
Speaking of her baby, she didn't even run upstairs to check on him. You know why? Because she knew he was fine. Also, when one of the police officers asked, "Are there any other intruders in the house?" Darlie said No quickly. How did she know that? It's a big house. She knew because she was the one who murdered her sons.
I just don’t think the celebration on the grave site was all that strange… in my family we try to celebrate the life gone instead of just crying and being sad… this specially if it’s a young life lost💔
I agree. And they made that video such a large part by showing it repeatedly. That’s not evidence to me. Everyone is different. When my uncle passed suddenly, we sang happy birthday to him at our first family gathering afterwards...and I honestly felt uncomfortable, but it helped some of my aunts with their grieving so who am I to judge... an outsider may have thought we were being weird too.
Some people and cultures cover themselves with ashes. Some people and cultures wale loudly and cry out. Some people and cultures throw themselves self to the floor prostrate. Some people and cultures paint themselves and dance. Everyone responds to things, situations and emotions very differently even within the same families.
@@flupflup932 She wasn't found guilty on that at all. She was found guilty on the evidence at the crime scene and her many many lies and changing stories. None of the stories that she told matched ANYTHING at the crime scene, except when she said that her boys were dead and dying.
Why did their dog not bark? Why didn’t she rush to her boys when they were literally dying? Didn’t Darlie and Darren both fail polygraphs? She didn’t even react to seeing Damon lying dead in the ER. No doubt in my mind. Guilty!
She lets her acting slip in her 911 call: "and did it, Darren" in her true voice, telling her husband that there was an intruder. He probably staged the break-in through the garage.
Not all people with NPD (narcissistic personality disorder) are evil you know, there’s plenty who are seeking help and changing their behavior. It’s not “always” they aren’t a monolith. There are so many people who have NPD and most of them aren’t murders . They are just people who have a mental disorder. Just because there are people who have it who are bad and have done horrible things doesn’t mean everyone who shares a disorder is also bad. NPD is so heavily stigmatized a lot of people just think everyone with it is some evil master manipulator and abuser. Btw I realized after writing this whole paragraph that this comment is 3 years old so you very well could have changed your opinions since then 😅
6 minute 911 call while kids are dying. Any normal mother would give the address, throw the phone, and help her kids. Darlie just tried setting up an alibi.
She sounded pretty shook up to me . The part where she said she’s touched the knife was only because the operator told her not to touch it ... so she said she’s touched it ... she wouldn’t have said that if the operator hasn’t mentioned it ...... I think I would have said this too
anon amos Didn't the 911 operator tell Darlie repeatedly to talk to her?. So how can she ditch the phone and tend to her children?. She did what she was told to do.
@@debrak8521 no. Dsrlie just kept on talking epileptic the officer was there telling her to help her kids and she did noting while Damon was crawling across the floor gurgling on blood looking up at her while she held a rag on her minor neck wound.
Emma, what had really given me chills is the husband Daren has never visibly shed a tear about loosing the children in public in interviews. I have seen him actually smile when they asked him if he had anything to do with it. Very strange to me.
I’m still learning about this case. But...just wondering how he was cleared. Being cleared doesn’t mean that he wasn’t indirectly responsible for the murders...of all emergency calls heard before, hers sounds the most authentic, at several points my gut twisted...her emotions feel real. That doesn’t mean she wasn’t responsible, either Will pay attention to the husbands reactions...and how he was cleared
@@alkahinat4558 I will never understand him smiling when asked if he had anything to do with it. How can anyone smile with that questioning? Those boys were stabbed thru their bodies, to the floor. It's horrific what happened to those children.
Why is everyone obsessed with the silly string party? THAT is not what convicted her. It was the evidence at the crime scene which did that plus her many many lies and changing stories which supported her guilt.
Probably because at the time of this case first starting..footage of her spraying silly string at the funeral was playing on every news station every 15 min. or so, as though they were trying to portray her as guilty in the media.
@@lisacundiff8029 The media didn't portray her as anything. Darlie invited the media to video the ss party. It was her idea and she negotiated for them to do it for money. No one made Darlie do the things she did on that tape and of course, she knew the news crew was there. Have you ever seen the full interview of her and Darin at the party? Not the short version but the long one? Unfortunately I can't post it here, but it is jaw dropping.
Probably because juror Charles Sanford said the jury replayed the video repeatedly and considered it a factor in the conviction, admitting he would have voted differently if he'd seen the whole tape including the solemn memorial service before the silly string section. It was intentionally presented to be prejudicial.
@@sarahl88 First of all, Charles Samford lied about several things. One was that had the pics of her bruises been shown, he would have voted differently, but all of the pics were shown. Then he changed his story to it being the memorial tape (the entire silly string tape was shown, what you are referring to is known as the "memorial or prayer service tape"). That was a police surveillance video, which Darlie's own defense declined to show, although they were given the green light to do so, by the court. The memorial tape, has never been released to the public, so how did Samford see it? The appellate court threw his claim out. End of story.
Emma, I respect you & I respect your opinion. Think about this.. she says she slept down stairs because she is a "light sleeper"... so she slept thru being slashed, stabbed, and all those bruises she had??? The first thing she says she remembers is her son tapping her on the shoulder and saying "mommy". Does that make sense to you?
Yeah, this bothers me too. How did she sleep through the attack if she's such a light sleeper? I'm a light sleeper, and if someone even enters my room, I wake up. She slept through both boys being stabbed AND the attack on herself until her son wakes her up (if you go by that version)? I have a hard time with that.
She's a mum, when you have a baby to look after you are a light sleeper, the slightest whimper from a baby will wake you up. But.... When your baby is upstairs and safe with a responsible person, that rapid wake doesn't happen. She was with the two boys whom if did wake up in the middle of the night for any normal reason wouldn't be nearly as frantic as a baby screaming, you don't have to act as fast because it's probably just thirst, or toilet and they aren't screaming the house down. When I'm out anywhere with my kids it's assassin/secret agent mumma, I see everyone and everything. If I'm not with my kids it's totally different, I'm a kid again. Doesn't happen often enough.
@2:01 Darlie's story hasn't just changed over time. She said in the beginning - to the 911 operator, to the police, and to her family - that she woke up with this man standing over her and that she fought with him on the couch and chased him out through the kitchen. Two days later, she changed her story and said her son woke her up and she only saw the man from behind, walking away from her. Your analogy @2:23 makes no sense. @2:52 This has to be one of the weakest reasons I've ever seen given for believing someone is innocent, not just by you, but many: "He/she has always maintained their innocence" ...I could understand that if the majority of people who were convicted of a crime said, OK, you got me! You were right, I actually am guilty... but that is NOT what happens. The majority of people sitting in prison, despite overwhelming evidence against them, will swear that they are innocent and they'll do that as long as there is an appellate process and a remote chance of getting away with what they've done. Denial is not evidence of innocence. I see this video is an hour and a half long so from here on out I'm going to try to stick to the facts of the case and stay away from opinion... otherwise I'll have a million mile-long comments here.

I think what hit for me was that when one of her sons was waking her up (and there were two of them in there with her), it wasn't her first instinct to look at her babies. I mean, even if she did not intently want to check for injuries, that instinct of looking at your child would have immediately told her that they are hurt. It's weird as hell. And I don't know of any kid who would not scream like cray when they're being stabbed. It's just sus.
Not to be facetious, but how many kids do you know who’ve been stabbed in there sleep to make such a statement? From experience with my own children, kids can be eerily quiet at the time of injury and have a delayed reaction. My son was especially stoic. I can think of three specific instances where it still boggles our minds he never screamed and cried. Point being, your statement is just not valid.
@@thehaglin as a lawyer and one who volunteers in a shelter for abused children, I'd say a lot. You know, I respect your opinion. Everyone is entitled to one. So next time, please refrain from invalidating other people's. :)
IF Damon had been able to scream, I believe he would have, but he was stabbed through his lungs and his diaphragm. Plus he was attacked as he was sound asleep, as was Devon. Darlie's story is ludicrous. Damon crawled across the floor after he was attacked the first time to get away from his killer (in the direction of the stairs, which I believe indicates he was trying to get to his dad OR just get away). There was another case like this, but in that case a neighbour tackled the slasher on the front lawn as he was escaping and he got busted. Turned out it was truck driver who would drive accros the US for work. Later on they found out he had attacked other people too in other states. No reason, no robbery. He'd park his truck a mile away and would go on foot to a random house... so yeah. Can happen.
Omg... I was asking if anyone had heard of this incident/crime on another you tube platform that discussed the this case. I was shocked that it wasn’t mentioned during their presentation of Darlias case. I could not find info on the man who came in and did basically the same thing to a persons home in close proximity to theirs. I find that very suspicious.
@@KT27RN it has no bearing on Darlie's case. There isn't a shred of evidence (in 25 years and over a 100 tests performed...more than any other inmate in the history of Texas) and nothing pointing to an unknown male and everything pointing to Darlie. And I don't mean a few things but EVERYTHING!
This is the first time I've ever questioned the court that tried her. I now see serious flaws in the prosecution. I hope she can have another trial. Great presentation, Emma!
But no one has to take them, it's your right to decline if you don't want to do it. It doesn't mean anything. Also, if someone is generally quite anxious or stressed, doing a polygraph will do them no favours. I don't think you can read between the lines there.
The silly string looks weird, however I think her baby son is being held by a relative whilst she is doing it and to me they're trying to make this situation, slightly less sad for him and all of them after they've had a 2 hour solemn service. Who knows what we'd do if it was us, I think I wouldn't do that myself but don't judge her for doing it. Hope she gets out eventually.
It is only her & her mother who say that other was 2 hours, it was about 15 minutes in Fact. She called the news crew to attend the 'silly string show' & then she & Darrin did an interview after & she arranged payment already, of course. Her lawyer has been drawing out the federal appeal because of that fingerprint but her days are numbered. The DNA has come back as being female
Darlie did in fact have signs of mental issues and her family covered it up, suicide notes, she even claim to be attacked before which was a lie..heres what she did... First Darlie took a knife from the kitchen to cut the window screen, then put it back and grabbed a bigger knife to commit the crime. why would a killer put a knife back in the holder and grab another knife? Darlie then put a sock on her hand while she murdered her sons, then ran it down the street to drop it. The sock only had Devon and Damons blood on it. it had Darlie's and Darrin's DNA on it though, there's a difference. If Darlie was attacked like she said she was there would have been her blood too on it, also why didn't the family dog start barking?.... it took the investigators 4 mins walking back and forth, so she had plenty of time to run 3 houses down. why didn't the motion detector go off if the intruder ran in the back like she claimed?...She ran back and cut herself by the sink with her apposing arm to make it appear she was attacked by an intruder from behind, she then tried to clean up the sink with towels, but she notices Devon was still alive and stabbed him so hard again it went through the floor, that's why the knife got her blood on it and also got 2 cuts on her fingers not slashes. remember when the police arrived, they notice she was only using the towels for herself not the boys, there were several towels covered in blood by the sink and they only had Darlie's blood on them.... She started staging the crime scene, and Darrin woke up when she broke the glass on the floor before she called 911, that's when the timeline started. she had lots of time to stage it. Darlie's blood and footprints were on the bottom of the broken glass too. Darlie's feet would have had cuts on them if the glass was broken during a struggle. where were the intruder's footprints? and why would an intruder murder those little boys so viciously first and then go after Darlie? her wounds were not as bad as she claims. those boys were butchered! she also had hesitation wounds on her right arm, look closely at the pictures.. Her neck wound did not require stiches, and she was only in ICU because the police wanted to question her without the press, her family allowed those pics to be taken. look closely at the pictures someone put her earrings back in after the nurse took all her jewelry off, that shows her vainness. Darlie showed up 5 days later at the police dept with those bruises, no one notice them while she was in the hospital. she even claimed to a nurse that she thought she was raped but that was false too... after she was arrested, she wrote a letter from jail claiming to know who the intruder was, when confronted on the stand she admitted to lying about it. she also said on the stand she couldn't remember if she was attacked on the couch or by the sink? Her story makes no sense. as of 2023 Darlie's new defense is trying to blame Darrin for some insurance scam. Darrin had a 200 thousand life insurance policy on her, the boys had 5 grand each on them. If Darrin really set her up, why wasn't she killed first? more money for him..... there's so much more don't be fooled by Darlie she is monster and deserves no sympathy. in order for anyone to believe Darlie is innocent you have to believe the state of Texas, roulette police dept, prosecutors, doctors, nurses, investigators and her own attorneys set her up. because that's what her family claims. which is nonsense.
I'm from North Texas, where this happened. The news outlets crucified her- they painted her guilty and the public followed. I am convinced she is an innocent woman who has been vilified and violated by the press and the judicial system. My heart goes out to her for the loss of her two boys and her freedom.
She's SOO innocent that she never wanted to know who killed her children, that's very strange, but not to you. Maybe you find it just fine to admitt that some stranger killed your babies and that's it, that's life.
Being old, I remember this as it happened. EVERY time they said something on the national news they showed the Silly String clip. I thought "absolutely guilty" at the time. Now- having seen years of documentaries, opinions and news clips, I'm not so sure. What I do know is if something happened to my ex-husband, I'd be in a world of shit.. lol.. If there is a time for being inappropriate, I've done it.. I've giggled at funerals, accidently cussed in church, said the stupidest things to ever be said.. Heaven forbid someone look at my search history! I just have no idea what to think about this whole case..
I have giggled too! But not Joyous at the murder of two little boys! Watch the Behaviour Panel on TH-cam! The silly string video didn't put her on Death Row! Her own testimony did! Do your research before you spout your lies!
I myself, have gone back and forth as to Darlie's guilt all throughout the years since the horrific tragedy occurred. However, the silly string video should never have been used as a piece of legitimate evidence. For one thing, the very fact that that part of the video was singled out for the jury and the public to see, with NO mention (until well after the fact), about the fact that the silly string was brought out AFTER those same people at the grave site had held and almost 2 hour, very solem, emotional memorial for the boys, was never even mentioned at the trial. If they were going to show the video, it should have at least been shown in its entirety. Also, there were children present and, while it may not be how some people act so soon after such a brutal demise for 2 young boys, the fact is...they were 2 YOUNG BOYS (who supposedly loved to play with silly string!) And, perhaps a show of celebration of their all too brief lives, was just what those kids in attendance (including Devon and Damon's baby brother), needed in order to to help them process and grieve. There is after all, no right or wrong way to grieve. Again, not speaking to Darlie's guilt or innocence but, the silly string clip being used as supposed direct and solid, legitimate proof of her guilt, is deplorable...especially in this country.
The defense never showed the before video! Her lawyer now has had that tape for years! Why doesn't he show it??? Read the trial transcripts and quit harping on silly string!
Also, I bet Darlie asked Dana to bring the silly string! You just listen to the family! That's the problem, you don't look at evidence and facts! Just because you say you are innocent doesn't mean you are! Dianne Downs shot herself, Jeffrey McDonald stabbed himself! Alk, the strongest of the bunch, with minor wounds compared to the butchery of there children! But I guess they are innocent to because they say they are! They are narcissist!
This little boy was killed with a week to go until his birthday. I can imagine he had probably been asking for weeks "mummy, will there be cake? Will there be balloons? Will there be silly string I LOVE SILLY STRING". And then to have all of that just end and those moments disappear and fall silent? Life with young children is a whirlwind of colour and life and noise and silly string. For this family that wall ended so quickly and their world filled with grey and whispers and questions. I can emphasize with a mother, desperately clinging on to the colour, to the silly string.
Do you know that at one of his last birthday parties, that Darlie smashed cake in that little boy's face for squirting her with his water pistol? And then told him that he deserved it? His party was ruined.
@@SpikeyAlbinoPotato All of the things that I've brought up were part of testimonies at her trial, including the cake being smashed in Devon's face by Darlie. I believe that was in Eileen Schumer's testimony. She and her husband were friends with the Routier's and she attended the party.
Iv always thought she was guilty and i still do. I watched a interview when the interviewer suggested she could be a psychopath and she smiles and she was trying to squeeze a tear out while talking about the children but she didn’t succeed.
My niece and husband tragically lost their 18month old to drowning in backyard pool. Immediately after the funeral service the entire congregation smiled and celebrated his life. Releasing balloons and butterflies. The tears had been shed. We all needed to ease our pain with warmth and love. Smiles and celebration. To onlookers that may have looked odd. 😇 love to all 👼 angel babies ❣️
What you are describing is normal and is done by many at the end of a service. I maintain that the silly string party by itself doesn't prove Darlie guilty. If the State had had no other evidence, she never would have even been indicted. But the people who place so much importance on it, do not know the case well enough to know that there was a mountain of physical evidence at the crime scene which proved Routier's guilt and that is what convicted her.
I have waited for Emma Kenny, to do this horrific case. It is so hard to know the true. My son died in 2019 and I have to tell you it is beyond any death you can ever imagine or experience. The depth that it goes you can not even put to words. You do some strange things when it has just happened. I can't say I would be throwing silly string but I did do some things that I had no memory of. I would not wish to be part of deciding her fate Thank you Emma, you are fabulous Keep well
Lynne N I am so sorry for your loss. But Darlie orchestrated the silly string party and invited the news crew to video it. For money. Please don't compare your loss to hers. She murdered Devon and Damon and it is easy to know the truth. The crime scene did everything but literally scream her name as the killer.

One despicable woman wrote a couple of books full of lies & nothing about the facts & started a campaign to free him when in fact it was Always about her financial gain. At the grave site, what we didn't see is her friends taking her aside and convincing her to stop crying and do the party. She didn't want to do it. She was under a lot of pressure.
That's not even close to the truth! She invited the news crew to the "party" in exchange for money for her out of town family's hotel and air fare! LEARN THE FACTS
Where did you hear that? And if she was under so much pressure and didn't want to do it then why did she orchestrate this "party" and invite the media (for money)? Have you watched the full interview with her and Darin? Her shooting the silly string pales in comparison. Laughing, giggling flirting with the newsman, Joe Munoz...I've never seen or heard of Darlie crying except when she was arrested, and when she was caught in her lies on the witness stand. Real tears then, not her pathetic fake crying.

@@ImHardlyAHuman It's the overwhelming physical forensic evidence, a staged crime scene and a woman who could not keep her stories straight and lied over and over again during her trial that proves she is guilty and not her acting like a goof at her sons' grave only 8 days after they were brutally murdered.
Emma, a very dear friend of mine, Jacque Sue Rawlins Waller was killed in 2011 by her husband, Clay. He took her body to an island on the Mississippi River and buried her in a shallow grave. It did get covered by true crime daily and a few others, but I would LOVE for you to cover the case. She was a very strong woman and would have enjoyed your program I believe. It has been covered but not enough, in my opinion, I don’t ever want anyone to forget her story and her triplets have been adopted by her sister who pushed for solving the missing persons/murder case. Thanks for what you do, I think this would be a beautiful testament to her beautiful life.
Have you consider that Darlie is a narcissist. She had superficial charm, wanted the perceptions of being good, hence why she had the kids over all the time, allowed teens to drink at her house. But was loud, flashy, extravagant and wanted to be the center of attention. There's a report that she left a party once because Darin was not paying attention to her and came back claiming she'd been graped. At the time of the murders a lot of people in her life had exciting things happening in their lives, her sister getting married, Darin's sister getting married, she was planning a baby shower for a friend and they were supposed to leave the following week to celebrate her grandparents 50th wedding anniversary. By her own diary, she says she can't explain it but she's not satisfied with her life. Her life in comparison to her must've felt like was in decline, not making the same money the previous year, had just been denied a measly $5,000 loan from the bank. Just the month before she attempted suicide to get her husband attention. Her children murder would only get her a LIFETIME of attention. She'd forever be poor Darlie. Thought nobody would believe her capable and would just have to say "I don't remember". Good thing the evidence did not let her get away with it.
Why would someone brake in stab two kids and slash her for no reason , didn’t steal nothing either 🤔 . I think she cut herself then stabbed the kids. There is something that just doesn’t seem right with her specially when interviewed there is some darkness in her
@@hayweb866 Who is "they". There has never been any evidence that even one unknown intruder was in the house, so "they" doesn't compute. And it wasn't a robbery, but if your theory were correct, it would have been the biggest threat who would have been killed and not the two sleeping little guys on the floor. And why wouldn't the jewelry at least have been snatched up?
I've ALWAYS felt very uncomfortable about the way the prosecution presented this case. They botched the investigation, so they had to really double down on making people hate her. So sad. I can't say definitively that she's innocent, but there is AMPLE cause for a new trial.
So your father was murdered ? Really ? And you slept for a week just to avoid to find his murderer ?Do you understand how crazy your comparison with the MURDER of two children is ?
Realizing how old you are when you understand the Beverly Hillbillies reference but also realizing that you're old and that there is now a generation that doesn't know who they are 😭😭 I discovered you a week ago and have been quickly binging everything in order.
I honestly 100% believe it was the husband who did it and they’re all pinning the blame on her because she’s a woman. I reckon it’s the case of, he’s a successful man and how dare anyone sully his reputation so it’s just easier to pin the blame on her. Disgusting. I believe she’s definitely innocent and should be released and he should be punished.
Lasted 3 mins with this cause Emma starts to indicate that Darlie could be innocent, which is possible at first but look at tall of the facts, she murdered her boys!
The intruder left no footprints, debris, dust, fingerprints, DNA, etc. behind. The breadknife had a microscopic piece of exactly the same size and shape of fiberglass that the screen was made of. Only when Darlie was confronted with the cleaned sink did she add the wet towel element to her story. However, no wet towels or wet spots on the floor were ever found. Light sleeping Darlie didn't wake up despite an intruder stabbed both her sons next to her. Darlie didn't even wake up when her neck was slashed. She claims her son woke her up. Not even the dog woke up during the attack. The motion detector light didn't trigger when the intruder fled. Only Darlie's DNA was found on the bloody sock. It only took 50 seconds to run back and forth between the house and where the sock was found. Cast off blood spatter from the boys was found on her right back shoulder as if she stabbed them. The shattered wineglass was found on top of her bloody footprint which is impossible considering her own timeline. No impression of a bloody knife was found on the kitchen floor (Darlie's claim) but a bloody carpet impression was about 18" from Devon's body. The bloody carpet impression consisted of the blood of both the boys and Darlie. Her bruises on her forearms emerged after she'd been released from the hospital. However, the hospital staff never saw any bruises when she was there. Three unidentified fingerprints were found but two of them are probably from the boys and the third contained female DNA.
@@Douglas_Hamilton But the picture of the sink with the Luminol on it, and the photos taken of the sink from the Routier family home, are not the same sink. The Routier sink was a double sink, the one always shown in the photo with Luminol, is a single sink. How do you explain that one? Something doesn’t sit right with me about that
@@montanamountaingarden476 The sink with Luminol is not her sink. There are no public pictures available of the sink sprayed with Luminol. As soon as they found blood, the sink was removed and among many things sent to the lab for further analysis.
Wait a minute. I live in Rowlett, and accusing us of “rubber stamping” cases is a terrible assertion. It’s one thing to have an opinion, but to suggest that we knowingly send innocent people to death row is inaccurate and completely undeserved.
She seems 100% guilty to me. Who breaks into a home and kills the children first, if at all? If they’re there to kill, they’ll kill the adult(s). And, who would just break into a home to kill the people and not take the jewelry laying on the counter? She cut herself to keep from looking guilty. She had to. She didn’t know how close she came to actually killing herself. That was just luck. The children were stabbed with a lot of force. If a woman wakes up and sees a man she’s not going to follow. If she does and sees he dropped a knife, she’s not going to pick it up. She’d stop and go right back to her children. And Devon couldn’t talk to his mom when she says hold on be strong because he had blood coming up out of his throat and into his mouth. I’ve seen some interviews with her and she seems like a total liar to me. The 911 call sounded fake. Overkill. Maybe she thought the children’s life insurance was more
I really think they should of looked at her husband a lot closer because I don’t know how he didn’t wake up through all of it , I really don’t think she did it because I’ve heard my mom screaming when my sister died & darlie sounded just like my mom , I really think he done it & I thought that from day one when I watched the documentary about it when it happened & I agree with you Emma it’s unsolved & they shouldn’t put her to death , thank you 😊
I for one think she didn't do it the cuts to her neck were very deep and to sit on death row and still say I didn't kill my children speaks volumes, Kate Australia 🇦🇺
So you don't know that her husband was the first suspect and they did investigate him thoroughly? There was no evidence that even remotely suggested that he committed these murders or that he was involved in any way. And believe me, LE would have been relieved in the evidence had pointed to him rather than the mother of these boys. But none of it did. It all pointed straight to the mother (Darlie).
@@aussiekate3306 Her cuts weren't deep. They were superficial and non life threatening (per her surgeon's testimony). The boys' wounds were horribly deep. Every stab wound was meant to kill them. And it was overkill. Look at the autopsy photos and then look at Darlie's wounds. Her neck wound wasn't even closed with stitches, but steri strips.
The one piece of evidence is that a screen was cut and in one knife in the kitchen had the metals of that screen embedded in the knife from her kitchen. That one piece of forensics convinced me of her guilt. She might have had severe post pardum depression and had a psychotic break.
They never proved it, it was speculation. Read the transcripts, eventually admits they cannot say where it came from and they never chemically tested the fibers. Easily could have been transferred when dusting the screen or same officer that transferred her own blond hair to the screen, which they tried at first to claim it was Darlies.
@@cindys9858 Thank you! I got my information from a documentary about this case. Do you think she didn't do it? I certainly do. So did the jury based on "beyond reasonable doubt." I think she had severe post pardon depression. There is a medical term for it and it involves a psychosis. Two children were mortality wounded and she had superficial cuts. I know that this isn't evidence but I smell something very fishy. It certainly doesn't make sense.
People judging the Silly String Incident need to understand that grief manifests in different ways for different people! A month after my best friend died VERY suddenly her sister and I went to see One Direction and danced the night away. It made me feel closer to her and I felt like I was honoring her by seeing the show we'd planned to see together. People honor their loved ones in different ways.
So your best friend was murdered by a stranger, right ? And you never wanted to know who murdered her ? If not so, your case has nothing to do with Darlie Routier's case. She lost TWO children, apparently MURDERED by a stranger but she NEVER wanted to know who he was. If this seems just OK to you, welcome to the psychopath club.
Oh come on, Darlie changed the whole thrust of her story from her initial interview. That's what makes cops suspicious. they expect you forget or are in shock so that's why they interview you more than once, but they don't expect the whole story to change. Darlie's story changed again and again as she tried to explain incriminating evidence. It had nothing to do with her telling her story to many people. she lied her head off.
I have no conflict I think that she did it. I don't doubt that she was hysterical but I think that was because she stabbed herself and didn't realize how much it would hurt/that she would bleed quite so much. Also as to motive I think that it was for attention. The forensic evidence was damning & whilst not every detail has an explanation(life isn't CSI) there are insurmountable scientific realities relating to the case that her appeals couldn't overcome for good reason. Finally the first person that she mentioned in the call was herself.
Clinician here… I haven’t watched the video yet, but chewing gum, specifically mint, helps with nausea and vomiting-backed by peer reviewed medical science. It also helps with mental focus, like studying or writing papers: I chewed tons of gums during school! Just a random bit of validating info.
FFS.... her chewing gum is not evidence of anything. The evidence in this case is the reason she was convicted and the reason her conviction has stood, appeal after appeal. Are you at all familiar with the evidence or do you know anything about the tons of DNA evidence that's been done in this case?
I remember watching this case in an episode of forensic files. If you watch that, she’s guilty as sin, so it’s interesting to see another take. Well done! 😊
Have asked for the same! I'm very conflicted as to Betty Broderick, whether she was a jealous cold blooded murderer or a woman pushed to the edge by her controlling ex husband.
How do you figure that an intruder can stab 2 people (babies) to death, and nick another with *superficial* wounds, and not leave a single print. No fingerprints, no footprints, no blood, nothing. Also, why didn't you talk about Darlie's amphetamine use? I understand she had severe post-partum depression as well. Edited to add: You all may stop with the "silly string got her convicted" BS. There's no evidence that anyone but Darlie murdered Devon and Damon.
Emma repeatedly states that she is undecided about this case, why then do i feel like i've just listened to the case for the defence ? Not Emmas finest vid in my opinion but i'm still a huge fan.
Actually, the financial gain from the kids' deaths didn't even cover their funeral. It's always really bugged me that the prosecution played up the financial aspect so much. It looked desperate to me, grabbing at all that circumstancial evidence in lieu of anything that physically pointed to darlie.
I lost my 22 yr old brother suddenly when i was 26. My mind shut down. I had to be sedated for a period of time and was diagnosed as having a nervous breakdown. I remember being at the grocery store and running into a classmate of my brother who asked me if he passed away and i broke out in laughter and said yes its a tragedy . Another situation i denied he died . So you can see the mind is capable of strange behavior when confronted with devastating heartache. It took years of therapy for me to recover from his death .
Your brother was murdered ? And you never bothered to know who did it ? Try to understand that your case has nothing to do with the MURDER of 2 innocent children. Obviously, you are not responsible for your brother's death. Can you tell the same for Darlie ? Nobody was ever found any stranger for this murder and everything happened inside the house, included the knife which killed the children. So, you're thinking that's it's just fine that some stranger comes in your home, selects a knife from your kitchen, kills the children to death but not you (that just comes so handy, right ?) and you never ask the police to find such a criminal ?
I really feel like the fact that Darren was never considered a suspect, he was never thoroughly questioned. I have a bad feeling this is another insurance job from Darren

Maybe she had the party simply to remember happy times, past birthdays, and imagine him still with her. Especially after the horror, then 2 hours of sombreness and crying. @@sharonkv777 maybe that is the case. I haven’t seen the pictures so they may well tell a different story but i wouldn’t say it was a clear cut case either way. Like Emma mentioned how would she move the sock as even if not life threatening she would be bleeding fairly heavily
there is REASONABLE DOUBT. period! the lone unidentified bloody finger print and the time frame of the bloody sock. thanks again emma for such an incredible take! 👏
Darlie has never been excluded as the source of the bloody print, not even by her own expert on appeal, Dr Richard Jantz: Fingerprint Evidence The Jantz Report, the Wertheim Report, and the Jantz Affidavit 6. Applicant claims that new fingerprint evidence demonstrates that a previously unidentified bloody fingerprint found on the coffee table belonged to an adult. (Application at 17-18). 7. Two lifts of this print were admitted into evidence at trial. (SX. 845I & 85J; RR.34: 2030). 8. Based on the testimony of James Cron, and the writ evidence of Dr. Richard Jantz and Pat Wertheim, the court finds that the fingerprint lacks sufficient points of comparison to make a comparison and that the fingerprint most likely was deposited by a child or adult female. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 15. The Court further finds that Applicant has always claimed that an unknown adult male was the real perpetrator of the murders. (See, e.g., RR.34: 2564-65; 2568; RR.44: 4468). 16. The Court finds that the tables in Jantz’s report each state that the most likely depositor of the print was an adult female. (Applicant’s Writ Exhibit 4, Table 2, Table 5, Table 8 ) . 17. The Court finds that Jantz’s report therefore undermines Applicant’s claim that an unknown adult male murdered her children. 18. The Court finds that Wertheim compared the latent print, State’s Exhibit 85I and 85J, to the print cards of all the paramedics, police, forensic technicians, and others who were in the crime scene from the time the murder was reported until the officer who collected the print left the crime scene. Of all those people, the only finger of a person that could not be excluded as contributing the print was Applicant’s right ring finger. (State’s Writ Exhibit 2 at 3). 19. The Court finds that Jantz’s report does not exclude the possibility that Applicant deposited the unidentified print. 20. The Court finds Applicant has failed to prove by a preponderance of the evidence that Jantz’s report is affirmative evidence of Applicant’s innocence. The time frame of the bloody sock is a red herring. It would've taken her a minute or less to run the sock down the alley. What is relevant is that she wants you to believe that this sock was used in a brutal attack against her, yet there is not one drop of her blood on the sock. There was blood from both boys on the outside of the sock and her skin cell DNA on the inside. There was also no blood trail leading to or away from the sock. All of this indicated to investigators that she ran the sock down the alley after the boys were bleeding but before she was bleeding and was therefore an element of her staging. Her own attorneys understand how damning the blood evidence on the sock is. As was laid out in her appeal, part of their request for additional testing on the sock was in hopes of finding her blood to refute the State's theory regarding the lack of her blood on the sock.
Good video! I don’t know if you were just using it as an example, but just for clarification that photo of the sink showing the luminol is not the Routier sink. As far as I’m aware, no photos of the Routier sink with luminol exist, or at least they have not been made public.

Thank you for covering this case. As silly as this may sound, one thing that has always bothered me is the neck wound. From all accounts it seems Darlie was, for lack of better words, vain. Of all the possible self inflicted wounds one could inflict, I have trouble with the location and extent of that neck wound. Furthermore, evidence from the couch (pillow I believe) was NOT collected. Serrated edge? Hard to believe anyone would select a serrated knife for what was to follow. Lastly, from what I remember as a Texan watching footage back then, the entirety of the "silly string" footage was never shown. There has come to light additional footage showing the somber affect just prior to silly string. I don't recall ever seeing the images of her massive bruises until many years later. I can't pretend to know the truth but if ever there's been a case with reasonable doubt, I believe this is may be one.
She inflicted her wounds at the sink where the majority of her blood was found. Damon and Devon's blood was also found in the sink and drain because she rinsed the knife prior to cutting herself. There's no evidence of an intruder. All the 'fingerprints', DNA, and footprints have been accounted for. The Silly String tape was recorded by the news crew Darlie invited to the cemetery and admitted in full. There was a second tape, a police surveillance tape, that was provided to the defense who decided not to admit it into evidence. The family contends it shows Darlie mourning, but has never made the entire tape available. The defense obviously found the tape unhelpful to Darlie. The jury heard all the evidence and found no reasonable doubt. 24 years later, that verdict has survived all challenges.
yeah the extent of that superficial scratch? shall we also talk about the magic bruise that wasn't there in the hospital and didn't show up for a number of days.... a bruise like that would've started showing up severely THAT NIGHT, not days later.
You've left out a significant amount of extremely incriminating evidence, including the blood cast off from each time she plunged the knife and drew her arm back, made with the boy's blood on the back of her shirt, the cut screen proven to be cut by a knife from inside the home, the fact that the alleged "intruder" failed to bring a weapon, the massive clean up on and by the sink which lit up under luminol, Darlie's DNA found inside of the sock, with both boys' blood located outside of it, and the lack of forced entry to name a few. The 911 call alone has a plethora of red flags, which multiple experts agree upon. She is where she belongs.
The cut screen elements were that Sam as the finger print powder .. the blood evidence I agree is incriminating .... but the crime scene was contaminated before a proper exam took place .... I do find the lack of blood on the supposed exit sight troubling ..... the outside and cut screen would have been covered in it ...it would have been all over the garden and the cut screen & there wasn’t any ????
So much of this is wrong. As haters like to say, even when they haven't, have you read the transcripts? First, they never could prove what those fibers were. It's in the transcripts, when countered, the tech admits they do not know what the fibers were and it was speculation. They never chemically tested them either. Who knows what they are, I know I've grabbed knives out of the rack for cutting odd things, straps, onion bags, packages, etc. There DEFINITELY was contamination at the scene, even the states testimony admits this. I mean, they denied things were contaminated in general but specific evidence they admit it. Footprints, they admit couple of footprints were theirs, yet never could produce whose, which usually with such a scene they take prints of everyone, police, EMTs etc, so they can compare. Not these guys. The blond officer got her hair stuck in the screen, they tried to frame Darlie for it but didn't match. Which is crazy because I know my vacuum picks up ton of hair from my family in crazy places. Of course Darlie has hair strands in HER house. Just like of course she has DNA on things in HER home, like the sock, from HER laundry that SHE cleans and possibly wore. I can't get over that, the nerve of Darlie having DNA on a sock that came from her home. Shocking! Do these haters, blood luster's, realize how absolutely mind blowingly stupid they sound when they say they found her DNA on that sock? Omg, they also found her hair strands in ... Her hairbrush. Blood on her shirt could have been from when he tried waking her, poking her, when blood can't out of his lungs when Darren gave cpr, possibly even spatter from the killer when he attacked them or from the knife when he leaned over her on the couch. Can't really say for sure. This one can go either way, proof guilty or not. Enough there for doubt though. From my research about half intruders bring a weapon, other half don't. Reason to not bring a weapon is if you bring your own and get caught taking it with you it puts you at the scene. I've read dozens of cases no weapon was brought into the home. Also, there may have been more then one weapon used. Luminol is bs and your claiming this makes me know you did not read all of any of the transcripts. First, let's start out with why would they need to use luminol on that sink? It's obviously covered in blood, everywhere. You know what luminol is for? Second, love to see a photo of that luminol on the sink, have one? No? Well neither do they because "they lost it". They never could produce it in court. Why lose such important evidence? They didn't lose it because they never had it because they didn't need luminol and because never used it. Never mind they never even had the proper cameras to take photos of it yet they lied saying they did. 911 is bullshit. Just projection of your own expectations. There is no real expert because it is junk science. For one thing, people handle stress differently, also lot of weird stuff you heard was her answering questions from the cop and Darren, just cannot hear them most of the time. Darren is soft spoken, can tell from interviews and people he knew said the same thing. Also, some people might be autistic or have ADHD or something. Lamest shit to think you can determine someone killed someone because how they sound on 911. Which just goes to show the haters are all illogical emotion based fools projecting their own inadequacies and insecurities onto others. Half her haters simply are Karen's who want to feel superior. Do I have to explain to you why the earth is not flat also? The thing with this case, is most everything they have for their lame, sometimes unhinged, theories there is a logical counter which usually is more sensible. Therefore plenty of of reasonable doubt. Did she do it? Dunno but don't think so but definitely without any qualms I say they did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt. And I never even got into the INNOCENT people who almost got the death penalty because the idiot spatter "expert" (more junk science) in this case who has had many articles written over his horrific work. Never discussed the PAPER bags they stuffed wet bloody clothing in, contamination. Or how they lost the chain of custody on evidence or lost most of the notes they took at the scene. Nor did I touch on the extreme misogyny in this case.
The unidentifed killer completely annihilated the little boys' bodies but only took a few slices at the adult witness, then ran away taking nothing from the home? As the kids say BFFR.
exactly 💯 it makes no sense. she’s definitely not innocent.
She was convinced based on forensic evidence.
I feel if there is ANY doubt and there is only circumstantial evidence, nobody should get the death penalty.
@@lizmacleod8903 5thousand ea
@@lizmacleod8903 Her name is Darlie, not Darlene and the children were insured for $5000 each.
That is what the appeals process is for. It is a safeguard to check and double check everything concerning the trial, the evidence and everything in between. Darlie's case has been in the appeals process for years. There have been many tests and retests on her behalf. Unfortunately for her, every test has only reaffirmed her guilt.
Nobody should get the death penalty period IMO
I don’t get how she could sleep through her kids being murdered right next to her though? People keep saying how could the husband sleep through it but he was at least in a different part of the house. I do find it strange that a random stranger would make the decision to kill the children first because it would make more sense to take the adult out whilst they sleep and then the kids. It’s sick but it doesn’t really add up to me
That's because it was Darlie who murdered the children and not some random stranger.
Richard ramirez did
@@Survival86Gamer was the child sleeping on a couch next to the parent in the case of Richard Ramirez?
Nope
@@elliew9789 None of that happened. None of her blood on the sofa but lots of it in front of the kitchen sink--where she slashed her own neck.
Sorry, Devon died quickly but Damon didn't.
So silly string does not mean she killed her sons!!

no all the forensic evidence means she killed her sons. Her own damn bread knife cut the screen.
@@Roo3471 no it does mean a lot. thank you for warming my heart. blessings to you and hugs.
At this point, If Darlie Routier admitted that she did it then an execution date would be set. So there is no incentive for her to admit her guilt.
You did such an unbelievable job on this story!!!! I’ve watched just about every documentary made on this tragedy, but hearing it told with an empathy & kindness & knowledge that only Emma can? *chef’s kiss*
I want to give my take on the birthday party a week after the murder thing:
Idk man, when people die the things they loved still matter.
@@subrosa4792 those were my first thoughts, a celebration of life service is seen positively now.
YES
I never understood that people grieve so differently until I lost my own son too
I'm so sorry for your loss. I can identify with your reaction & subsequent actions too.
I’m sorry you lost your son fr and yah people do grieve differently but your fr
Crazy if you so that wasn’t sketchy at all
@@blakehillsdale9590 True.
Something in me tells me she’s lying and she did it
She is lying and she did it. There is no other suspect and all the evidence points to her.
This is thing isn’t what is odd some it’s always odd to others. So we really shouldn’t find someone guilty on that alone.
It was strange because her sons hadn't been dead long, if it had happened a year later I could understand more but not at the first few weeks

Not all people with NPD (narcissistic personality disorder) are evil you know, there’s plenty who are seeking help and changing their behavior. It’s not “always” they aren’t a monolith.

@@2hereagain I've been saying similar things for months.i can't believe people actually pay to watch this muppet.not only is she wrong about most things . She's a compulsive liar. Doesn't understand the law. Anyone that thinks asking for a solicitor or a no comment interview are signs of guilt have no place setting up a true crime channel. She's like . "Why don't these people just admit it" when obviously they don't want to get locked up . And I also find it a bit rich. As she doesn't admit to being the fraud that she is . These are the jobs she's claimed to have
Worked is safeguarding - lie
Worked in care - lie
Worked with criminalized kids - lie
Worked in education - lie
I used to watch crimes that shook Britain and Britain's darkest taboos where she was analysing the case it came up on the bottom Emma Kenny criminal psychologist . Which is a good job. so why lie. and what's her obsession with kids. I know for a fact as someone who's spent most my life living in care. She's too immature and makes inappropriate violent comments about what she wants to do to the perpetrators in these cases. In safeguarding saying shit like that you would get your P45 within seconds I've seen it happen. Safeguarding is the same you can't work with kids as a violent person. She's a compulsive liar a fraud and an out and out scum bag I despise her I really do.conning the public and conning a living she needs to be shut the fuck down
I'm not without understanding or sympathy even with serial killers, but I think that she did it..
Same here.
She is guilty AF. Watch the Behavioral Panel in regard to Darlene Routier. Thanks Emma! You rock!
I'm not disagreeing with you at all, but just wanted to say that. Also, her story of Damon waking her wasn't her first story. It wasn't even her second or third story.
@@sharonkv777 Yeah. It's just sus really. I can't really say she's guilty or not definitively. I guess Darlie is the only one who actually knows what happened. Thank you for the additional info though. x

There was another case like this, but in that case a neighbour tackled the slasher on the front lawn as he was escaping and he got busted. Turned out it was truck driver who would drive accros the US for work. Later on they found out he had attacked other people too in other states. No reason, no robbery. He'd park his truck a mile away and would go on foot to a random house... so yeah. Can happen.
I’ve heard of that case, think it’s on FBI files
Random murders like Israel Keyes committed, those are very difficult to solve.
@@sharonkv777 I thought there was an unknown male dna 🧬? Maybe that wasn’t true then. You know how some shows can be biased.
Once again! It wasn’t the silly string video that convicted her!
This is the first time I've ever questioned the court that tried her. I now see serious flaws in the prosecution. I hope she can have another trial. Great presentation, Emma!
What flaws?
You’re ignoring all the polygraph tests Darlie has been offered and either declined to take or have flat out failed.
But no one has to take them, it's your right to decline if you don't want to do it. It doesn't mean anything. Also, if someone is generally quite anxious or stressed, doing a polygraph will do them no favours. I don't think you can read between the lines there.
Darlie did say that her stepfather sexually abused her. So that IS very similar to Susan Smith.
The DNA has come back as being female
were you at this 2 hour solemn service?
@@anonamos9102 It Wasn't 2 Hours. Were You?
Me too. I agree with everything you said!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Being crucified has nothing to do with stone cold forensics.
She's SOO innocent that she never wanted to know who killed her children, that's very strange, but not to you. Maybe you find it just fine to admitt that some stranger killed your babies and that's it, that's life.
Thanks!
Me too I was so sure she was guilty but now I just dont know
I have giggled too!
She didnt wake up when someone killed her boys, stabbed her and slashed her throat? There’s no way.
Well she is the one who murdered him, so...... 🤷♀️
Do you know that at one of his last birthday parties, that Darlie smashed cake in that little boy's face for squirting her with his water pistol? And then told him that he deserved it? His party was ruined.

The evidence says she is guilty. 100% Guilty.

Lasted 3 mins with this cause Emma starts to indicate that Darlie could be innocent, which is possible at first but look at tall of the facts, she murdered her boys!
Went back to this and as Emma fan, I think she’s trying to balance the fact that Darlie was judged before trial. But she did murder her boys I think.

Wait a minute. I live in Rowlett, and accusing us of “rubber stamping” cases is a terrible assertion. It’s one thing to have an opinion, but to suggest that we knowingly send innocent people to death row is inaccurate and completely undeserved.
Thank you!!!!
I agree
Rowlett didn't even send her to death row. Kerrville sent her to death row, and they have anything but a tendency to "rubber stamp" death row cases
Overkill. Maybe she thought the children’s life insurance was more
I agree. Totally lying and she is guilty

He had absolutely nothing to do with it. Baby Killer Darlie did it all by herself.
How do you know the sock was dropped after she was stabbed only the blood of the boys was on it
Because most objective people realize the sick was dropped outside before the neck was wound was inflicted.
She doesn't. She clearly put very little time into researching the case before making a video about it.
@@bautistalover It was dropped outside after the children were bleeding but before she was bleeding.
🤔 I appreciate your explain. I'm only half through but torn lol
I'm not defending her in the slightest, but I chew gum when I'm nauseated.
Right! I have chewed gum at funerals before if I hadn’t had breakfast or something. Chewing gum isn’t necessarily weird to me.
Same here. It helps with my motion sickness too
Ye an its somthing i do when im anxious etc. Its like a calmer or a comfort etc..
Well done! 😊
Very guilty. She is where she belongs.
I agree that she did it.
The podcast Women and Crime, done by two criminologists, is pretty convinced of her innocence.
That documentary was geared that way as thats what everyone was led to believe. Miscarriage of justice in my opinion.
Pretty random thought, but I would love a video on Betty Broderick one day, I am so interested in your analysis Emma!
There was a heap of physical evidence pointing to Darlie.
You don't think Darlie is a narcissist? LOL. I can't take you seriously anymore!
The Silly String Tape.
We’re to believe she was attacked just 7 days ago?
She doesn’t feel fear, she’s incapable of it.
Thank you for covering this case Emma I don’t think this was beyond a reasonable doubt it remains unsolved
I recommend everyone watch the behavior panel's assessment of this woman...she reminds me of Diane Downs
The Behaviour Channel is awesome 🤩
DOWNS 100% MURDERED AND ATTPYEF TI MURDR HER BAIES NO QUESTION
Didn't mean caps sorry haha
Emma some of the story you have told we all have heard before but you tell the srory and really hold our attention has if its the first time we have heard them .you really are so tallanted and professional at telling these upsetting murders. Just like to say you have such a brilliant channel and give us time to think about these real life storys .big thank you too all your hard work looking and researching these cases .
Maybe she had the party simply to remember happy times, past birthdays, and imagine him still with her. Especially after the horror, then 2 hours of sombreness and crying. I can see it as her needing to feel close to him, so his birthday wasn't forgotten, her gift of love. Had she been free, I think this would have been an annual event for both boys.
Amazing. Very Conflicting!! You're awesome Emma xx
This case is so controversial. I cannot make up my mind if she’s guilty or not.
I’m the same and can not make up my mind but then that’s reasonable doubt.
@@louisejeffries7155 What reasonable doubt? There is nothing that has anything to do with the actual truth or facts that in any way point to Routier's innocence.
@@louisejeffries7155 Zero evidence of intruder, motion lites not on, Domain was a barker, didn't bark til cops came, her knife, cleanup at sink, her changing stories, in letters from jail she named 2 men then cried on the stand when caught. Blood under glass & vacuum. Guilty! darlieroutierfactandfiction.com
I live in the neighborhood where this happened and pass the house almost daily. It’s constantly on my mind.
The intruder who was chasing by darlie , got the time to clean the blood on her sink ? And no bloody shoe print in his way out ? A ghost did it ?
Can't wait for this tonight makes my Sunday night. Watching these have made me decide I want to study psychology and criminology at college in September. I'd love to see you cover either Ted Bundy or Joanna Dennehy because I think they are both such interesting cases.
She’s done both of those honey 😘
Also, check this out why would a random psychopath happen to go into her house then unalive two small children BUT leave the ADULT who could actually IDENTIFY him alive? And please don't talk about the cut on her neck, because the psycho would've made SURE she was gone, without a doubt I believe this. I think she did slash her own neck, but in the rush, she almost went to far.
Horrifying to think that there is a possibility that an innocent person could be put to death
it is horrifying to imagine an innocent person being put to death, but Darlie is as guilty as they come. She deserves her fate.
Don't worry, Darlie is not innocent.
She is far from innocent. She butchered her 2 boys.
Darlie woke up from sleeping and she's out of sort and confused? I thought she's a very light sleeper?? Also I think she cut herself but didn't realize how close she came to the artery,in other words it was a mistake on her part. Also there was DNA evidence against her. I know this video is 3 years old,sooo?
I have always thought she was guilty and I still think it
Oh god, imagine if she was innocent and being sent down for murdering her own kids 🥺😩. I think strong possibility she had psychotic episode and didn’t know she done it..
What about her neck wound? Not saying you’re wrong but that’s what makes me doubt that theory, do you think there’d any chance the male figure was her husband? He seems to have been ruled out quickly without any main reason given as to why
She knows she did it. She is a narcissitic sociopath or psychopath and lying comes easier to her than breathing. There was no psychotic episode.
@@matthewgannon722 Her neck wound was a non life threatening superficial cut. Her husband was thoroughly checked out and cleared. Darlie wasn't cleared because the forensics kept coming back pointing at her. All of it. Every single bit of it. To this day.
@@matthewgannon722 Would you like to discuss the boy's wounds? The fact that every single stab wound they endured was through the core of their bodies and meant to kill them. Deep, penetrating stab wounds in the bodies of a little six and five year old. Have you seen the autopsy pics? Darlie wasn't even stabbed and there were hesitation wounds in her cut. She cut skin and fat. Her own surgeon said her wounds were superficial and non life threatening. I'm very sorry about the loss of your sister. I didn't mean to be insensitive but Darlie is nothing like your mother.
Darlie has never been excluded as the source of the bloody print, not even by her own expert on appeal, Dr Richard Jantz:
Fingerprint Evidence
The Jantz Report, the Wertheim Report, and the Jantz Affidavit
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
15. The Court further finds that Applicant has always claimed that an unknown adult male was the real perpetrator of the murders. (See, e.g., RR.34: 2564-65; 2568; RR.44: 4468).
16. The Court finds that the tables in Jantz’s report each state that the most likely depositor of the print was an adult female. (Applicant’s Writ Exhibit 4, Table 2, Table 5, Table 8 ) .
17. The Court finds that Jantz’s report therefore undermines Applicant’s claim that an unknown adult male murdered her children.
18. The Court finds that Wertheim compared the latent print, State’s Exhibit 85I and 85J, to the print cards of all the paramedics, police, forensic technicians, and others who were in the crime scene from the time the murder was reported until the officer who collected the print left the crime scene. Of all those people, the only finger of a person that could not be excluded as contributing the print was Applicant’s right ring finger. (State’s Writ Exhibit 2 at 3).
19. The Court finds that Jantz’s report does not exclude the possibility that Applicant deposited the unidentified print.
20. The Court finds Applicant has failed to prove by a preponderance of the evidence that Jantz’s report is affirmative evidence of Applicant’s innocence.
The time frame of the bloody sock is a red herring. It would've taken her a minute or less to run the sock down the alley. What is relevant is that she wants you to believe that this sock was used in a brutal attack against her, yet there is not one drop of her blood on the sock. There was blood from both boys on the outside of the sock and her skin cell DNA on the inside. There was also no blood trail leading to or away from the sock. All of this indicated to investigators that she ran the sock down the alley after the boys were bleeding but before she was bleeding and was therefore an element of her staging. Her own attorneys understand how damning the blood evidence on the sock is. As was laid out in her appeal, part of their request for additional testing on the sock was in hopes of finding her blood to refute the State's theory regarding the lack of her blood on the sock.
Good video! I don’t know if you were just using it as an example, but just for clarification that photo of the sink showing the luminol is not the Routier sink. As far as I’m aware, no photos of the Routier sink with luminol exist, or at least they have not been made public.
I've just got to the phone call and I am struggling to hear what she is saying. I noticed this on the last few and it would be really helpful if you were able to add some subtitles to those as TH-cam cc doesn't pick it up. Absolutely love your work! Thank you! X
I wonder how many innocent people through out history ended up in prison or on death row because someone decided that person didn't "act right".
Exactly !!!
yeah.... thats all they had eh? not the heaps of evidence.
LOVED this one, I’ve always been incredibly conflicted. Even questioning my “gut” instincts. Fantastic look at this strange, heartbreaking case. Those poor babies 😢. And if she’s not guilty? Well I can’t imagine her suffering as a mother. So much reasonable doubt exists I don’t think death row is where she belongs. Layer upon layer of injustice and in my opinion, actual corruption. As an American, just an observer of our justice system at work, it’s rife with injustice, politics, egos, bias and wrong or unfair sentences and wrongful convictions. Definitely needs some work. Great, in depth look as always Emma xxx, thank you! Best TH-cam channel around for true crime and analysis 🌺🦋🌺. Quick side note 🥰, my mother was a homemaker her entire life. She didn’t work outside the home or even ever learn to drive. She put on her full makeup every single day of her life 💄. Signature red lipstick, hair fixed and accessorized! Lovely, sweet woman!! She said it just made her feel better starting each day looking her best! Love you Emma! 🌸
Thank you for covering this case. As silly as this may sound, one thing that has always bothered me is the neck wound. From all accounts it seems Darlie was, for lack of better words, vain. Of all the possible self inflicted wounds one could inflict, I have trouble with the location and extent of that neck wound.
Furthermore, evidence from the couch (pillow I believe) was NOT collected. Serrated edge? Hard to believe anyone would select a serrated knife for what was to follow.
Lastly, from what I remember as a Texan watching footage back then, the entirety of the "silly string" footage was never shown. There has come to light additional footage showing the somber affect just prior to silly string. I don't recall ever seeing the images of her massive bruises until many years later.
I can't pretend to know the truth but if ever there's been a case with reasonable doubt, I believe this is may be one.
She inflicted her wounds at the sink where the majority of her blood was found. Damon and Devon's blood was also found in the sink and drain because she rinsed the knife prior to cutting herself. There's no evidence of an intruder. All the 'fingerprints', DNA, and footprints have been accounted for.
The Silly String tape was recorded by the news crew Darlie invited to the cemetery and admitted in full. There was a second tape, a police surveillance tape, that was provided to the defense who decided not to admit it into evidence. The family contends it shows Darlie mourning, but has never made the entire tape available. The defense obviously found the tape unhelpful to Darlie.
The jury heard all the evidence and found no reasonable doubt. 24 years later, that verdict has survived all challenges.
there was no blood on the couch to be collected where she claims to have been attacked. She is a lying monster who murdered her sons
I agree, the neck wound and all of those horrific bruises! You just DON'T do that to yourself.
@@jamiepender6667 yeah you do if you’re pure evil. Lots of people do it for sympathy.
yeah the extent of that superficial scratch? shall we also talk about the magic bruise that wasn't there in the hospital and didn't show up for a number of days.... a bruise like that would've started showing up severely THAT NIGHT, not days later.
You've left out a significant amount of extremely incriminating evidence, including the blood cast off from each time she plunged the knife and drew her arm back, made with the boy's blood on the back of her shirt, the cut screen proven to be cut by a knife from inside the home, the fact that the alleged "intruder" failed to bring a weapon, the massive clean up on and by the sink which lit up under luminol, Darlie's DNA found inside of the sock, with both boys' blood located outside of it, and the lack of forced entry to name a few. The 911 call alone has a plethora of red flags, which multiple experts agree upon. She is where she belongs.
The cut screen elements were that Sam as the finger print powder .. the blood evidence I agree is incriminating .... but the crime scene was contaminated before a proper exam took place ....
I do find the lack of blood on the supposed exit sight troubling ..... the outside and cut screen would have been covered in it ...it would have been all over the garden and the cut screen & there wasn’t any ????
So much of this is wrong. As haters like to say, even when they haven't, have you read the transcripts?
First, they never could prove what those fibers were. It's in the transcripts, when countered, the tech admits they do not know what the fibers were and it was speculation. They never chemically tested them either.
Who knows what they are, I know I've grabbed knives out of the rack for cutting odd things, straps, onion bags, packages, etc.
There DEFINITELY was contamination at the scene, even the states testimony admits this. I mean, they denied things were contaminated in general but specific evidence they admit it.
Footprints, they admit couple of footprints were theirs, yet never could produce whose, which usually with such a scene they take prints of everyone, police, EMTs etc, so they can compare. Not these guys.
The blond officer got her hair stuck in the screen, they tried to frame Darlie for it but didn't match. Which is crazy because I know my vacuum picks up ton of hair from my family in crazy places. Of course Darlie has hair strands in HER house. Just like of course she has DNA on things in HER home, like the sock, from HER laundry that SHE cleans and possibly wore. I can't get over that, the nerve of Darlie having DNA on a sock that came from her home. Shocking!
Do these haters, blood luster's, realize how absolutely mind blowingly stupid they sound when they say they found her DNA on that sock? Omg, they also found her hair strands in ... Her hairbrush.
Blood on her shirt could have been from when he tried waking her, poking her, when blood can't out of his lungs when Darren gave cpr, possibly even spatter from the killer when he attacked them or from the knife when he leaned over her on the couch. Can't really say for sure. This one can go either way, proof guilty or not. Enough there for doubt though.
From my research about half intruders bring a weapon, other half don't. Reason to not bring a weapon is if you bring your own and get caught taking it with you it puts you at the scene. I've read dozens of cases no weapon was brought into the home. Also, there may have been more then one weapon used.
Luminol is bs and your claiming this makes me know you did not read all of any of the transcripts. First, let's start out with why would they need to use luminol on that sink? It's obviously covered in blood, everywhere. You know what luminol is for?
Second, love to see a photo of that luminol on the sink, have one? No? Well neither do they because "they lost it". They never could produce it in court. Why lose such important evidence? They didn't lose it because they never had it because they didn't need luminol and because never used it. Never mind they never even had the proper cameras to take photos of it yet they lied saying they did.
911 is bullshit. Just projection of your own expectations. There is no real expert because it is junk science. For one thing, people handle stress differently, also lot of weird stuff you heard was her answering questions from the cop and Darren, just cannot hear them most of the time. Darren is soft spoken, can tell from interviews and people he knew said the same thing. Also, some people might be autistic or have ADHD or something. Lamest shit to think you can determine someone killed someone because how they sound on 911.
Which just goes to show the haters are all illogical emotion based fools projecting their own inadequacies and insecurities onto others. Half her haters simply are Karen's who want to feel superior. Do I have to explain to you why the earth is not flat also?
The thing with this case, is most everything they have for their lame, sometimes unhinged, theories there is a logical counter which usually is more sensible. Therefore plenty of of reasonable doubt.
Did she do it? Dunno but don't think so but definitely without any qualms I say they did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt.
And I never even got into the INNOCENT people who almost got the death penalty because the idiot spatter "expert" (more junk science) in this case who has had many articles written over his horrific work. Never discussed the PAPER bags they stuffed wet bloody clothing in, contamination. Or how they lost the chain of custody on evidence or lost most of the notes they took at the scene.
Nor did I touch on the extreme misogyny in this case.
Love a Saturday night catching up on old episodes ❤ keep up ur hard work Em ur fantabulous 🥰🥰🥰
Thanks Emma, so insightful. I have a real problem with the death penalty, I would never want to be in a situation of making that decision ever.
