Crystal those placemats are made with a nail board. My mother in law used to make those back in the early 80's. You would wrap yarn around these nails that were attached to a board and then tie the yarn together which would make the flower design.

Thanks for taking us with you on another fun shopping trip. Have to check our walmart for new yarn. Today was $2 Tuesday at Goodwill. $2 for all adult clothing, $1 for all kids clothes. Found some New and like new sweaters , etc.

Those red w/green centers are placemats made on looms....I have the looms, my grandfather made for me..a whole set of graduated sizes. I have a set of octagonal & a set of the oblong, as well. I also made my brother & sister-in-law a king size afghan for a bedspread. It's really warm & pretty heavy, too.💜

Thank goodness Mr. BOD is such a good sport about reaching the yarn on the top shelf of the display for you! I would have to grab a stepstool from Housewares or a tall Walmart associate (or maybe let my younger and nimbler adult daughter climb the display to get the yarn I wanted).

Those colors are gorgeous on those wool ease cakes. I have been afraid to try anything with wool in it, even a small percentage. My skin is so sensitive! But maybe a shawl or poncho......
The Wool-Ease Cake yarn is the same DK weight as Mandala, but the same fiber composition as the original Caron Cakes (which were mostly acrylic with a smidge of wool). Very pretty colors; hope I can spot it next time I'm at my local Walmart!

That must be why our local salvage store had huge bins of Wool Ease in #3 and #5 Bulky. They are changing their skeins to cakes. I'm knitting a hat with a Wool Ease Bulky right now.
