    A easy trick for hollow grinds on the EPA is take a toothpick and tape it to the end it the table. That gives you support so you can still use your flat and the edge is being supported by the toothpick. Might have to play around with thickness and shave some of or ad a few layers of tape to raise it but it works great. For a wider blade I use 2 toothpicks side by side to give more support area. Hope th7s helps someone.

    Hopefully, you did another video on this, but it would have been much easier to explain if you would have put the knife on the edge pro and then put the angle cube on the knife. In other words, go through the process of setting it up for each type of knife and sharpening each knife as part of the video.

    Haha, that took a while. 2XWCS was made at the time I was dating my ex. Both our names started with "w" and our last names "c" and "s". It was a channel we started together but I essentially took it over. We broke up, still friends, and I just kept the channel.
    Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I understand what I've been doing wrong! So that VECP that I thought I had reprofiled to about 40 degrees inclusive, may have been 30 degrees. That's insane.

    The angle cube is a great tool for any fixed sharpening system. When accounting for variables like stone thickness, blade angle on the table, and on the Wicked Edge making sure full flat grind blades are clamped completely vertical.
    A Laser goniometer is also a great tool to give you exact readings at which angle your bevel is set at.

    Wouldn't it just be easier to use a sharpie to get your angle and then a collar to change stones? I don't really see the need to know the angle number.

      James Cummens yeah you can do that. At this time I was sharpening a lot of knives for customers and they requested certain angles. So that’s why I was doing it.

    After you have to lay the knife on the flat ground, still measure your angle cube on part of the flat part(if you have any) or off the rica so, not the flat ground, to get an accurate adjusted angle. Nice video.

      Michael Hodges you didnt watch the whole video, did you? well, unfortunatly i did and he uses the cube and demonstrates it. i cant get those 9 minutes of my life back. i should have just read this comment first.

    hello, can you do a video of sharpening the ontario rat 1 on the edge pro.. till this day i still dont know what i did wrong because my result was the bevel is not consistent on the belly and tip of the blade..

  • @2xwcs
    @2xwcs 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Again, thank you for the information! This'll help me out a lot. I've been wondering why sometimes when I reprofile an edge, the bevel seems so ... wide. I've seen your videos with the same exact knife, you might've reprofiled the blade to something even more shallow than I did, and your bevel is more narrow. (I hope that made sense.) Now I understand! I'll have to pick up an angle cube to help out. And then after that it's time do a lot more research on the forums.
    Thanks John!

    You posted this video 9 years ago. What device would you suggest, on today's market?

  • @Myrmecia

    @1snowreaper - You wrote "A Laser goniometer is also a great tool ..." Where can I get one? I see plenty of plastic ones (designed and made for physiotherapists) that don't use lasers. But no laser goniometers (other than industrial ones at industrial prices).

    have you seen the wicked edge knife sharpening system?
    or the kme knife sharpening system?

    @gravediggermax It's a great system, but there is definitely a learning curve.
    Can't wait to see how the Wicked Edge compares.

    I also love that hollow sounding tink that the sebenza makes when it opens, is that just the vid or in real life also?

  • @jdavis882
    @jdavis882  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @rangodash Yeah it does have a very unique opening and closing sound, even in real life. :)

    Helpful video. Thank you. For those who already have an iPhone or ipod touch or Android phone there are FREE Apps such as iHandy Level or Gyro Leveler that can do the same sort of measurement with a device you have on hand..Just hit the calibrate button when held to the table or knife blade to zero out.

  • @jdavis882
    @jdavis882  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @1snowreaper What do you zero the cube on to make sure that the knife is perfectly vertical? I assume you need something that's perfectly horizontal... Maybe zero is on a level?

  • @robertmunguia250
    @robertmunguia250 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So there’s nothing holding the blade? I thought it had a clamp?

    • @jdavis882
      @jdavis882  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope. The edge pro is a clamp less system. In some cases not having a clamp is REALLY helpful.

    Have to disagree on the ricasso. If you could suspend the blade in the air what you're saying would be true. But it won't.
    As you sharpen the tip end will be pushed against the Edge Pro table. So the ricasso end will be at one angle and the tip end will be at another angle. Everything in between will be the transition between two. This could easily be a couple of degrees. You need to measure the blade on the table in the position it will be as you're sharpening it.

    Should have watched this first. Held the back of my 940 straight to the white stop. and force it down but naturally the pressure by strokes have disasterous results

  • @69bird100
    @69bird100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I realize this is an old post but anyone reading this now l must say that he is wrong. You will be close but not exact on the angle. Anytime you raise the angle of the arm at the knob end, as by putting the ricasso on the table and not the flat of the blade, you decrease the cutting angle. It is minimal but it does change.

    • @jdavis882
      @jdavis882  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s why I said the angle is “pretty much” the same. The extremely slight discrepancy is not enough to matter, even if you’re polishing. It’s much less than a degree, inclusive.

    just use a sharpie and match the factory angle. This is jibberish. Advanced jibberish.. but jibberish none the less.
