    I love EVs and really want one, but in what world is a $30,000 car "affordable?" The Japanese are making great electric cars that sell under $10,000. There's no reason why we can't have that in the US.

    • @Electric-Rideables
      @Electric-Rideables  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A valid argument. Hopefully we'll work out some of the issues and have affordable electric city cars in the US one day...

      EVA should be affordable and real cars not overpriced golf arts. That's why Tesla cars are so successful they were the first real serious EV speed ,range ,safety etc while every other car maker gave us overpriced electric " toys".

      @@georgevavoulis4758 Tesla is wonderful for people who can afford it. Incredible groundbreaking technology. I'm just saying we need something more affordable for the rest of us. Great EV cars can be built with fewer bells and whistles for people who just want the basics.

    Single or dual passenger EVs is what we need MORE of. A) About 80% of people drive to and from work by themselves. They don't need a vehicle with space for 4 or 6 or more. B) This would bring the cost of the EV way down (and also be much faster to charge since the batteries could be much lower in KWH). C) This would also mean less congestion on the roads, easier to park, etc. Unfortunately everyone thinks they need a 9 passenger SUV to go to work in.

    • @Electric-Rideables

      Exactly!!
      And if they combines with pedals.. much better..!

    • @kenwoolf
      @kenwoolf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The sad reality is, most people don't think they need a 9 passenger SUV (at least outside of the US), but they can only afford one car for their family, and it has to do everything. So 90% of the time, it's gonna be one person commuting. These small EVs could only be competitive if they were affordable enough to be a second car. But they are anything but. It's actually cheaper to buy another ICE car for that purpose as well, so even if someone can afford a second car, they will just go for that.
      Sadly most of these electric vehicles are currently just toys for rich hipsters living alone in the city who don't really need a car at all to be honest.

    • @midgetman4206
      @midgetman4206 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kenwoolf More of them have to aim at 20,000 or bellow. 1-2 seaters, with all 3 systems available (ice, hybrid, and full electric). Partner with a motorcycle manufacturer and throw their stuff in there, boom, now a 1/3 of the project is complete, the other two being an attractive design and certification. Instead, they usually outsource material and try to build the hard part in house, which just means it will end up sub par and more expensive. They then ignore or focus to much on trying to make a "unique" exterior that just ends up pushing costumers away, because why should you willingly buy something that looks horrible?

    • @loctite222ms
      @loctite222ms 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What portion of that 80% do you think drive a two-seater ICE vehicle? I'd guess not too many. People often want more capacity than what they need most of the time. I had to decide what to do went most of the time I didn't need more than 4 seats, what happens when I need 5?

  • @LILEE376
    @LILEE376 3 ปีที่แล้ว +39

    Sadly most of them are just an expensive toy for richer people, rather than a "car" which can revolutionize the industry. They are capable, just insanely expensive.

      @@Electric-Rideables But I think these type of 1-2 seated cars have bright future. If we really want to do something about the environment, we should start to use these "cars". The concept is good, the implementation also looks good, but I think the price is not right to reach the majority of the population. Probably this is not their goal at this time, so they have a market to grow.

      kWh is the time a battery can last while delivering a drain of 1kW per hour...hence being used as a volume indicator for batteries.
      Additionally, please note that car torque specs are in foot-pound, not pound-foot.

      @DownhillAllTheWay 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was on the point of commenting to ask what kW/h means. As there are 746 Watts in 1 HP (Horse Power), it's the equivalent of saying the car has 27 horse power *_per hour_* - which makes no sense at all.

      @@Electric-Rideables - Well, the headquarters is about a 15 minute walk from where I live. As I said it was a late prototype, so there was a lot of "We're going to change that to..." Interior and cosmetic stuff. Couldn't be a simpler thing to drive. Direct drive, no transmission, peppy as hell because of the high torque of electric motors. Really comfy, good cargo space. Because of the delta rear end, there's overlap in the two side mirrors - no need for a central mirror. No problems in city traffic. Some insanely low number of moving parts compared to a car - like 10%, maybe lower - they quote it somewhere in their PR. It was exactly like the guy (owner I think) said: "It's like having your own personal fighter jet."

      @@jasmijnariel my battery lasted 10 years before I sold the car. I had less than 100km of range initially and when I got rid of it I was getting about 90% of what I started with. That was after 200k km. I was trying to be very conservative with my numbers for these EV’s assuming they would be lower quality.
      I do think most people drive significantly less than me and the batteries on EV’s are more likely to go bad from age vs the amount of charging cycle they have. I think there’s a lot more waste from the larger EV’s that have over 500km range on a single charge as they will rarely die from having too many charge cycles vs dying of age. In any situation you’re just a lot less likely to see an EV that lasts anywhere near the life of a regular ICE car.

    The problem with mini EV’s is what happens when somebody T-bones you running a red light in his SUV? Also if you’re on the highway doing 60 or maybe 50 or 45 mph and a semi decides to pass you at 60 mph on the inside lane. Say hello to the ditch at the side of the highway. I like these but you have to be rich enough for a town golf cart and an actual car to go on the highway. Solution: buy a 1959 Cadillac Coup de Ville. You should be able to put the mini EV in the trunk.

    • @Electric-Rideables
      @Electric-Rideables  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    @1:11 your subtitle said "6.5 kw/hr lithium-ion phosphate battery" Energy is measured in Wh (Watt hours, a multiplication of Watts with hours, or an integration over time of Watts). Also, when using larger numbers, kWh (1000 Watt hours). It is NOT "kw per hour" which is what "kw/hr" implies.

      That's the problem with these companies.
      100 start-ups and maybe 2 make it into production. If politicians really cared about the environment and having less / smalle4 cars on the road they would support these innovations more. In Germany vehicles like this are exempt from the EV bonus while EVs are pushed at the cost of tax payers.
