45 minutes in still have no idea what Urbits unique value prop is… kudos to the host for at least trying to rein Yarvin in

Easy: The old internet, web 2.0, is dying because the whole stack is fucked and was never designed to be fit for purpose. This stems from the fact that the internet is built on a cracked foundation of TCP/IP on one hand and UNIX on the other. These were never designed with each other in mind and have been essentially duct-taped together. This solution worked so long as the internet was a society of college students & tech workers, who could be expected to actually operate a FUCKING INTERNET SERVER. Being a Linux SysAd is freaking hard work. Anyway, eternal september happens, the genie is let out of the bottle and the orcs sack Osgilliath. Because the internet can no longer sustain decentralization, due to an explosion in bad actors and incompetence, the denizens are instead funnelled into centralized service in order to get any sort of value out of the freaking thing. This also means that 1)Your digital identity is split among tens or hundreds of different services, all of whom own your data, and 2) This leaves plenty of vulnerabilities that can be exploited.
What then is Urbit? Urbit is an integrated network and virtual computer where the networking aspect was built in from the start, designed in such a way that anyone can operate their own bona fide internet node. You own your data and can take it with you anywhere.

In short: The cirrent UX on the internet, by any reasonable standard established status quo ANTE, is completely terrible and nobody would ever design it this way if they had the option. The UX is terrible because of deep structural and historical reasons that are both completely non-mandatory and irreversible from where we are. The only answer is to start over with the right priorities.

@@themadfinn95 i think it really depends on the user. Id say the average person’s interpretation of the internet’s UX is that it’s simple and intuitive. Otherwise they wouldn’t be spending 8+ hours a day using it.

All Yarvin’s fans should watch this interview, especially the ones interested in his political and philosophical writing.
Maybe Rufo is right about Curtis or, what is it… fucken Sorreg Namtyv? Who in his own words compared designing the Urbit name creating algo to Tolkien designing an elvish language? Really puts some things in perspective, now doesn’t it.

My favorite part about Urbit is how it selects for quality users only.
No I swear this is a direct reply to your observation.
