I checked out the same place in the late 90's and it was amazing. Was always told a crazy old guy owned it and would not part with anything. Latest rumor was that they all were crushed when the price of steel went up.
We've been to this junk yard; i never seen any guard dogs but the old man was crazy! He would not sell parts or cars. Unfortunately when he passed away this was cleaned up real quick, and my guess is the cars were scrapped. When I was in there the mud from the Mississippi River had actually protected a lot of the chrome. If it wasn't steel or metal it was wasted. I never got anything bought out of here. It's a shame.
Willy was one of those people who would take a instant like or dislike to to people they met. If he took a disliking to you, you couldn't come up with enough money to buy anything form him. But on the other hand if he liked you, you could get a unbelievable deal. A couple of national car magazines took published pictures an gave out the location without his permission and people stared showing up stealing parts. After that he didn't deal with anybody.
I live across the river, and work just north of St. Gen, where these cars were. Im sorry to say they were all crushed. I used to drive by here once a week and look at these. Theyve Been gone for a loooong time.
we have an old junkyard near us....rat rod heaven....cars from 20's- 50's....maybe 100 cars...Kaiser, Ford, even some British stuff...garages/sheds filled with parts....owner wont sell anything.....
Some of the good stuff was saved, But most of it was crushed when china first started buying steel heavy and prices were around $300.00 a ton. It sucks But truth is alot of the cars were just way to rough to fix,
Great find, Roadkingy! I’m amazed the # of 30’ / 40’s & 50’s cars/ trucks there. Also surprised to hear there’s a guard & dog on premises. Looks like there’s been no activity there in yrs. I did a video of an abandoned Junkyard in late 2010. Kicking myself for not getting back there this spring. It’s now been scrapped out.
this shit is sad. i love old cars, im 18 an have a 51 ford ratty an a 63 plymouth cranbrook. to see old cars just rot into the ground is sad and its even worse when owners have cars in their back yards an wont let off of them so they jus rot to nothing
Awesome..perfect joint for a zombie horror flick..just fantastically ultra creepy junkyard..imagine this at night..WOW! Lots of lost memories in those cars. Interesting!
Many of those older vehicles were works of art simply itching for someone to come along for restoration or resto-moding. I'd rather these cars end up in the unscrupulous hands of a car builder on TV who charges and arm and a leg for a completed car than to have them scrapped. Scrapping any of these complete (not seriously wrecked) older cars is simply sacrilegious. They REALLY don't make 'em like that anymore. How many Nash Airflytes (6:44) can there possibly be out there today?
Everything disappeared some time later. Don't know what happened to them as I only passed thru about once every year or two. Agree though that they should have been preserved somewhere. Maybe they were........
I live in Ste Genevieve in 2021 and the outside of the house was redone many years ago by Mr Hoffman’s granddaughters I believe. I don’t think they redid the inside though
@Fx4Ranger2002 Gotta agree...sad though...many "American" cars have foreign parts. Also sad, I remember if you got 50.000+ miles out of your vehicle...it was worn out. Glad it's not that way today.
Look on ebay, all the chrome trim, stock radios, fenders everything. A slight fortune to someone like myself, who is smart enough to know a gold mine when he sees it.
I would love to be one of the people that go out here and find old cars in the woods but hell were i live thats kind of hard to do. I would have to go to a diffrent state to be able to have a chance to find at least one old car.
Near where I live there is a patch of woods with some old trucks. Owner died and now a grandson owns it. I wonder if he will do anything with any of them. He has already burned 2 houses on his property.
The tragic irony is that if they would have sold the collector cars for parts, they probably could have financed the restoration of the house. Oh the fools....
A sad thing . I grew up in Rural New England with many places like this , they _could_ have sold everything but instead hoarded it so everything was wasted ~ this rusty junk had ZERO scrap value when they cleaned it all out . Obviously they were just beginning to cl;ear it out when you took these fun pictures . So much waste . -Nate
@Fx4Ranger2002 I was thinking the same thing while viewing this video. My Dad worked in a junkyard in either the late 50's-early 60's..so I remember things like that. You can tell those were CARS not tin-foil fiberglass ways to get around. You can tell they were good and solid because of the rust....when have you seen much rust on today's cars?
more than just a few million dollar sat right there ,must have gone to a good home , unless the scrap merchant was suicidal or something , even then the next guy down the line should know what its worth and give it all some industrial respect like it deserves
Never mind your 56 & 57 Chevs, 4 mimutes into the vid and you have already passed 6 or 7 Slopers from the late 40's early 50's. Those cars had style, which they tried to copy later on in the 60's.
Im a 25 year old kid and I know that to some people, that right there is just a bunch of junk. To me, all of that is worth a lot lot lot of money. I could make a killing off just buying and selling all of these cars!!! If anybody knows of anywhere like this near St Louis MO, let me know please!!! I will pay cash
A comment or two below said these cars were crushed. If so that's a damn shame, these cars are American history worth more than the lives of the meth addicts who stole parts to scrap the metal or the bastards who crushed them for a check from the junkyard they sold them to. That's a damn shame
@Roadkingy2003 yeah maybe they were we can only hope that. its shame that the true beautys of the road are being put in musems and never driven makes me sick
Wow! I would have really loved going through that collection. I always loved going through junkyards. This one was totally amazing! Great video!
I checked out the same place in the late 90's and it was amazing. Was always told a crazy old guy owned it and would not part with anything. Latest rumor was that they all were crushed when the price of steel went up.
Even though you took the video 20 years ago and posted it 9 years ago I want to thank you. It is all just wonderful says this grandma.
I like that cool old house, just the type to tell strangers "go somewhere else" plus a yard full of dreams. Too bad it's gone.

The family comes in , the cars get crushed for quick cash and another piece of Americana gone. . Seen it too many times....

i wish i could see this in person, speechless !

That '61 Impala looks pretty solid!!
Wow. What an awesome yard!
these are the cars that moved america back in the day.
if these old cars could talk wow.
Man, the stories that could be told by those cars.
Camera is unbelievably stable and steady!
are you driving on the wrong side of the road? haha but no that is actually really serene and amazing. thank you for posting that.

Way back in the 1920s to 1950s we made a dump trailer out of a dump truck like that for our farm(sold now)

I thought an exploration of the old abandoned house would be interesting.
Great video man! mad respect for those cars.
This place is beautiful!
MAKE WAX REPLICAS OF PEOPLE WHO MIGHT HAVE DRIVEN THESE CARS WHEN THEY WERE ON THE ROAD, CHARGE ADMISSION AND LIKE A MUSEUM
When did they remove the cars ? I remember them being there in 2002.
SAD GOSH I WISH MY GRANDFATHER COULD JUST RESTORE ONE
it's sad knowing that most of those cars more then likely got sent to the crusher :;,;,;;(
the house, dump truck, and tow trucks remind me of the movie jeepers creepers lol
Haunted junkyard!
That's pretty cool! I hope they found a good home
I would love to go there and salvage at least one of those cars and give it to my grandmother and possibly one for myself :3
Why should you be surprised. Much of America treats and discards it's elderly the same way.
Many of those older vehicles were works of art simply itching for someone to come along for restoration or resto-moding.

What happened to all the cars now that it's gone?
If It was I that ruled the world, these sacred places should remain the same, our place in the past is nearly as important as the future..
Everything disappeared some time later. Don't know what happened to them as I only passed thru about once every year or two. Agree though that they should have been preserved somewhere. Maybe they were........
Hope they were not scrapped!! Especially that wrecker & dump truck..
@@michaelguinn5736 Sorry to break it to you but they were scrapped. They had trucks come in and the yard was cleared in a matter of a few days.
I live in Ste Genevieve in 2021 and the outside of the house was redone many years ago by Mr Hoffman’s granddaughters I believe. I don’t think they redid the inside though
It would take more than one lifetime and more than one fortune to recover them all ,;) , but the airflyte ....
@Fx4Ranger2002 Gotta agree...sad though...many "American" cars have foreign parts. Also sad, I remember if you got 50.000+ miles out of your vehicle...it was worn out. Glad it's not that way today.

This junkyard was in St. Genevieve, Missouri. Unfortunately it is gone now.
I would love to go through that and find a super rare car
So what happened to this gorgeous place?
All good rat rod material at the least. Worth a lot of money.
they were all new cars once...
I would love to be one of the people that go out here and find old cars in the woods but hell were i live thats kind of hard to do. I would have to go to a diffrent state to be able to have a chance to find at least one old car.

Crushed in 2004...
A sad thing .

@ridinhonda4life Most cars in these eras had steel bumpers
