Good take on the S70. Definitely glad to see Proton keeping up with times and continue to expand their range of customers. Personally I would already expect Geely-based vehicles to no longer have the "Proton ride and handling" but instead gain vast improvements in other areas Proton used to lag behind.
That's a fair statement. The enthusiasts among us will always miss the sweet handling of the Waja, Neo, and Gen.2, but as a company, Proton's number one obligation is to make stuff that people want to buy.
@@KonWaiLuen True, unfortunately the demand and trend for cars seem to be evolving into mere travel 'appliances' with added safety and creature comforts. Noticed the car in the instrument panel was moving when the autual car was actually stationary! I Safety features were backed by a sole camera mounted on the front windscreen, think this is inadequate!
Cant say i actually care about the car but the vid was still very informative and fun to watch! Also, my heart kinda breaks when u mention Proton is now a rich pipol brand :(
Honestly I think it's the best sub 100k sedan, IF Proton does price it competitively. However if the flagship is 100k upwards then it will lose against Civic for sure.
i would like to see a drag race between s70, civic and corolla altis..maybe civic will win, but interesting to see what will happen between NA corolla and turbo s70..
Newer cars use CVT, they are slow from stop. The problem with proton is it's not cheap to maintain and quality not good enough. Japanese car brand also have problems like CVT only no other transmission. I hate new cars. The older 5 speed Honda are way more fun to drive.
Last time I've test driven a X50, I wasn't all so impressed with its driving experience. The ride and handling is overall just ok, expected out of a crossover. The DNA that you'd expect from a Proton, is definitely not there. I see a number of people who have X50's and X70's, sharing the same sentiment even when compared to its direct Japanese competitor. Thus, I'm not sure if the S70 will fair significatly better than the B and C segment competitors. Maybe the lower height of a sedan would help to an extent I guess.
Size and performance wise, it is closer to a C segment than the typical B. Although most C segs have independent rears, it's not rare to see some of them having torsion beam rear. Notably the current gen Mazda 3, the older Altis, some of the lower Korean and European C seg too. It is a downgrade, but I'm guessing that's more to do with cost cutting on Geely's part. I'm not even sure if any of the Emgrand the S70 is based on has independent rears. As much as Proton wants to emphasise on ride and handling on the new sedan, it's never really Geely's priority, and it's not like the existing Geely rebadges excel in that department as much as what Proton's in house work was known for.

Hey Kon, great review!
Does this have the magic Ride & Handling like your Persona? What’s your thoughts on it?
Coming from Proton Preve user
Noor, there's no proton rider and handling because it's geely car. Need to wait persona and saga replacement in 2025

Proton used thinner torsion beam for better articulation maybe?
Well presented Wai Luen than the others. You were candid in your comparison of the A class, 218 and the S70 and also the drag race.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video
