Thanks for the videos Ben! West Michigan surfer here, and heard you had a a fellow Michigander give you crap/localism bs. It’s a shame to hear honestly. I’m always stoked seeing people enjoying the lake.
Would love to surf the Great lakes or anywhere different like that. Have to say though, I would have to laugh like hell in that dude's face for that one.
Dude the Great Lakes have the aloha spirit! Everyone here is stoked to have people in the water! I’ve almost never had people rude in the lakes and if they are, they don’t belong there.
I surfed some winter swells in snow in Japan and it was cold. With the right wetsuit it wasn’t too bad, MN looks badass though, what a swell to catch. Congrats Ben.
I can relate to the lake surfing scene. We surf the German Baltic Sea (which is smaller than most of the Great Lakes) and the stoke is just really high because it's such a novelty experience. When you score one of the better days it feels like winning in the lottery.
I'm an Estonian, born and living in Australia, but when I visited Estonia, I saw the possibility of surf there. Having just searched youtube, I see it's possible, and at times pretty good!! I live on the beach at Golden Bay Western Australia, and we don't get surf that good very often!!
It's not easy to keep level 10 positivity all the time, kindness to others and smile on your face. Well done. Oh yeah and pretty good surfer too 😂 , respect from NY !
Just moved to Minnesota from California for my daughter who needed spinal surgery. She was just discharged today after 21 days in the hospital. Minnesota is so cool and people are so nice. Hoping to check out Lake Superior one day and score some surf. Thanks for the video!! 🤙
we need some more props to my man and a lot more likes pressing a button can help him out so much it literally takes 3 seconds so why not PRESS IT love you ben, keep the drive and passion you have for surfing up!! :)
Yewww!!! Great Lakes are where it's at. It's a different feel in more ways than one, and all of us here are stoked for anything rideable. Many of us won't wait for the perfect wave, because we'd be waiting a lifetime. We take what we can get, sometimes amazing, sometimes not, but love the vibe that lake surfing brings. 🤙
It's useless to hang out and wait for that wave, yet the satellite photos show the reef, so a north-east wind appears to be the key. Couldn't be happier to see this great event.
Wow!!! That is some Killer Shit, I live just approximately 20 miles away from Lake Michigan, grew up in Milwaukee, WI and never thought I would see waves like that in my neck of the woods.
Tons of great waves in Wisconsin. Hit up one ot the awesome shops down there and get out in that water! Shoutout EOS Surf Shop, Boardshack, Lake Effect.
So cool to see a fish being surfed still! I started surfing a twin fin fish back with David Nueva in the late 60s! I rode twins until my 3rd back surgery and was never able to surf again. Had 10 back surgeries to date!
Ben! Thanks again for charging, exploring. and keeping us stoked with your pure hearted enthusiasm! Thanks to the camera team as well! You guys are bringing the stoke and helping the rest of us keep the dream alive! Mahalo!
Hey Ben, praying everything with your health turns out okay. It took a bit but I was finally able to get sober and it was largely due to your influence. Thank you most graciously. Stoked to be living the dream at last! Tons of love and well wishes! ❤❤❤
Man I remember Surfer's rendition of that trip to the Great Lakes. Easily a Top 5 rendition of a Great Lakes trip ever printed. Just a really solid rendition, very true to the original.
Your videos is what about surfing is, passion, search, and having fun whatever conditions are. Thanks for create this awesome vids. Hi to the hardcore Lake surfers, keep the spirit🔥
For the dream indeed! Those were some beauties!!! I've been in North Carolina for a year now and I haven't seen waves that good here even! What a score!
Harder to surf on fresh water too!! Salt water is a lot easier to get up and riding than fresh by far. I waterskied in competitions in high school and would practice on Salt water but compete on fresh...Threw me off bigtime.
Hey Ben. I'm claiming this is your best video ever! Possibly the best surf video ever! I literally had to pick up my jaw off the ground while watching this. Amazing story and waves. Living the life!
That’s was legendary!!!! Stoked you scored it on the Nut!😆 Thanks for making what we do on the lakes legitimate! safe travels and continued success. I hope our paths meet up again soon! Yeeeww🤙🏻
Yes, we'll get 15 to 20 ft plus waves on Lake Erie when the storms are rolling, It's nothing to see 7 to 10 footers 🤙🏼.. my Buddy worked Coast Guard on the ocean for years, then was transferred to Lake Erie. He had never seen the Great Lakes. He said he never imagined in his lifetime how massive the waves are in the great lakes. Its actually terrified him going out on search and rescues for a few years, til he got use to it.. 🤙🏼
Lake Erie Erie Pa local here!! There are many things to love about our lake surfing! No fear of sharks, and regular cold plunging are two of my favorites!! We appreciate you Ben!
What I think is so wild is I can’t even take a 5 minute cold shower or barely get myself to do the dishes and these people are surfing in freezing temps
Burton aka Kellyslaker is a one in a million legend!!! He's so stoked🤙 You manifested this many moons ago when you claimed 'show up blow up', dude scored, is an understatement 🤙💯🍍
starting surfing North Topsail Beach, NC, Murtle Beach SC then hopped to California, Huntington, at the pier, and the cliffs, Bosa Chica, Trestles, Old mans, Newport, Surfside, ANderson and at the Jetties Seal Beach, Blacks Beach, CA., Santa Cruz, San Onofre, at nudes trail 6, Manhatten Beach, Lajolla, Bodega Bay, Baja, Rosarita MX, Lincohn ,Oregon in a springer w/ water about 42 degrees, and a few others here and there... but never in the lakes.... that water looks hard and heavy and a blast!
1972, I lived in Rincon PR, at a place called the Alamo. With 2 guys from the Great Lakes. One guy was named Jack. Good guys. If your still out there. GOD BLESS!
Life long resident of Michigan. Summers were spent in the Middle of West Side area of Michigan on Lake Michigan (Ludington area). Body surfing during a summer storm was always the ultimate....!!!
Ol Ben… just landed today from a South African trip- surfed most of the world, but some of my best memories was surfing Lake Michigan as a little punk in Stevensville MI in the 80’s- we had real stoke (and a lot of patience :)
Thanks for sharing your journey with lake surfing over the years. Your feedback as a well rounded ocean surfer and eternal stoker has shown people how legit it can be! It’s a true passion for me bro wish you all the best 🚀
Absolutely epic! I used to dream of this as a kid, looking at little waves on lakes and in rivers everywhere I went. Would try to find waves in flooded creeks every time it flooded as well! Ben Gravy...living my dream...LOL! Keep it up, man!!
That's got to suck!!!!! Cold 🥶 Snow ❄️🌨️ Sleet!!! Rain 🌧️☔ Oh crap I live in Michigan 😊 And love everything about it Thanks Ben for putting us on your vids
There's no place like Stoney Point, due to the bedrock jutting up at a steep angle just offshore. The force of all that water surging, and all of a sudden being pushed straight up to the surface causes breaks that can't be rivaled anywhere else on Superior. There's big waves all over that lake, but Stoney Point is special. Plus, they already got there late. By the time they got anywhere else, it would have been dark.
@colliemintz7732 It only breaks harder over there because the bedrock is right under the surface. It's definitely good surfing, but you'd have to have a death wish to ride down there.
Cool video! Erik is a great dude! I saw you signed a moose board. He's a good dude too! Taught himself how to shape boards because it's to expensive to ship them to MN. I was bummed I missed that swell, but I was surfing in Hawaii that week.
The first waves I ever surfed were on Lake Superior. I was 15 and camping on the Keweenaw peninsula of Upper Michigan near 5 Mile Point. It was a rare day. Jello swells onto a pebble bar at sunrise.
Grew up in cali live in Iowa . Vacation for me is trying to tach myself to surf every two years. I’m going to have to try to find the stoke in a lake . So sick thanks for the video.
I LOVE your enthusiasm and appreciation for surfing the Great Lakes. You’re one of us!
Those lake surfers are the coolest bunch! So much friendliness and stoke💙
Totally. Haha. Big Wave Ben has massive cred. Michigander here who has ridden a few big ones in HI and NorCal. Cheers.

Dude the Great Lakes have the aloha spirit! Everyone here is stoked to have people in the water! I’ve almost never had people rude in the lakes and if they are, they don’t belong there.
In the Great Lakes, storms come quickly, fresh water swells rise instantly and fiercely. Love em.....!!!
Oh man, it’s refreshing seeing Ben riding a regular surfboard
Never thought I would see waves like this on a lake.
So epic
3:05 “it looks bigger than it looks man”……this guy is not only a joy to listen to, but he’s smart as well!
😂

THAT WAS SO SICK! The glassy, freshwater lines being torn to pieces at the end was all time. Some awesome turns out there man.
It's useless to hang out and wait for that wave, yet the satellite photos show the reef, so a north-east wind appears to be the key. Couldn't be happier to see this great event.
it's so funny hearing the surfer dude voice mixed with midwestern accents 🤣 this is one of the best surf videos ever
Mad respect to the boys who surf the frozen tundra of the Great Lakes...
There's some girls, too 💃🏄🐣

started surfing OHIO with 4 other guys in 1986- the water was always brown but we were always stoked .

You guys are having so much fun your stoke is on fire and on point 👍👍🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️
He said they were "Well over head". But a couple looked like mere inches from double over head. 😮

Epic! Nice job boys!
4:08 such an epic clip 🔥
It would be interesting to check out the other surf breaks in the area on that same epic day and see if stony point was truly the best spot.

Unreal. Wow
Theres a cove barreling at Sheboygan occasionally.

Epic - if I did not see you doing it I would not have believed it 🤙
As a California native, I get asked( by one person always) if the lakes can be ridden. I sent him this video. It outta shut him up
