The shear brutality of that brilliant sound from the mighty “40’s” is truly incredible!!.....pure EMD muscle at its best!!!! 🇺🇸💪👌...........they certainly don’t make power like that anymore 😔

Those SD-40's scream like that shoving ore into Beth Steel dumper. EMD's rarely let you down.

I've never heard EMD's scream like that before.

I don’t care what anybody says, those Turbo Charger EMD were impossible to beat as far as the sound factor is concerned

Having also heard GE chug and Alco warbling up close (and Baldwins in video), I have an appreciation for all of them. It's like ice cream - I have my favorite, but some days I feel like changing the flavor up a bit. That said, this clip is one of my personal favorites.

You have any videos back of the straight 40's and SD45 helpers?

More than likely just cooling the traction motors with the high idle.

Boy O' Boy.. Sounds like me today.. I am pushing my P&S camera to the limits and need an SLR to continue, and my camcorder is aging, tripod is wearing down, scanner is about to bite the dust, still 15 and can't find a darn job. Boy do I wish I was alive back then and there..

the 6660 - 6669 I believe were the only 45's that were helpers in the early 90's, by then they were gone.. I'm surprised by that, figured you'd have some dirt on me being and oldie moldie fan. Haha.
