    Only one massive thing is bothering me about this pond. I don't want to come across petty but I think it would have been 100 times better IF you installed it in my backyard!

    A second thank you for the laser level explanation. I've been watching a lot of pond videos in the last year. This is the first time I remember someone walking through how to use one. Not boring at all. Glad to see 2020 is being good to you.

    The whole water feature is great! I really love the waterfall and how it meanders, and especially the Niagara Falls portion... hey that’s in my neck of the woods. The bamboo makes a great background, you have to admit, and that could be the background behind the waterfall, IMO. I have a video regarding bamboo control if you don’t want to read the whole thing... but here goes.
    The home owners need to maintain the bamboo barrier, besides the fact that it looks like the knockoff flimsy barriers, to make sure the rhizomes don’t jump the barrier. They can & should also rhizome prune: work a spade around the clump and pull out any cut pieces, once after new shoots leaf out and again right before winter. The Phyllostachys genus (which is what it looks like) generally spreads 4’ a year, so roughly 2’ per rhizome pruning in open ground. Essentially they’re just trying to find stray rhizome in their case. They shouldn’t have to remove much. Leaving an opening in the barrier also channels the roots in one direction and makes it easier to maintain. It seems like they take the path of least resistance and jump less if there is open ground. It sounds like a lot of work but it’s about 2 hours per season of work, depending on how fit someone is. Not to cross promote my channel on yours, but again check out my video to see it done.

    I almost planted cattails in it, until I watched another video of yours

  • @TheOfficialSteelReign
    @TheOfficialSteelReign 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Well, you had me at Serenity because it's one of my most favorite movies 🤣 but I also love how much you love it. That says something to the viewer when an artist can appreciate his own work. I have to agree, too. That thing is dazzling. The waterfall is top notch. The pond itself is pretty stellar as well. Once that thing is planted and seasoned for a couple years, look out!
    Question: Is there anything that you had to do to reinforce the wall? I ask only because I literally just watched Ed Beaulieu's installation of a viewing panel on their Aquascape indoor koi "pond". The work he had to do to stabilize it so that the weight of the water pushing on it couldn't cause it to fail seemed intensive. Would that same variable play any role when utilizing an existing wall like you did on this project?

    • @AtlantisWaterGardens
      @AtlantisWaterGardens  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With this wall, it’s only 18” high and it’s also made of block. With its pin supports it’s designed to hold back the weight behind it 👍

    What a difference a few days make! Jaak, please do a follow up video late this summer or next year, so we can see the landscaping in. Is the homeowner building a wall in front of the bamboo? Is that what the framing is for?

    Jaak, wonderful as expected. Did you have concerns about the existing retaining wall being strong enough to hold the weight and force of the water? Did you replace or put in a barrier for the bamboo? Certainly a spectacular outcome!

    • @AtlantisWaterGardens
      @AtlantisWaterGardens  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The retaining wall is in good shape, not really worried about. The bamboo has a barrier around it now, but they will still have to watch for runners that could jump it

  • @jasonsearcy7388
    @jasonsearcy7388 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow oh wow did this one turn out beautiful! I know from watching you that you only "really" need a foot or two of height to make a showstopping piece, but when you have that natural bit of extra height to work with it looks so much better! You all knocked it out of the park. Love all of your videos you do and always look forward to taking some time to watch yours when you post. Also appreciated the full flow shot and the low flow shot! You really get multiple water features with that variable pump!

  • @brianparker460

    Jaak, how far down do you have to put the concrete cloth to protect the lining, cover under the entire waterfall sections???, or just about to deep down around the side???

    • @AtlantisWaterGardens
      @AtlantisWaterGardens  ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on the project. We always put underlayment under the whole thing to make sure the liner is protected everywhere.

  • @brianparker460
    @brianparker460 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Jaak, did you not use concrete cloth behind the waterfall and the edge of the pond to prevent the bamboo cutting into the liner again?? Or is the underlayment strong enough to prevent the root penetration? And did you double up on did not see it in the video??

    • @AtlantisWaterGardens

    Weekly training video complete, a spectacular result, oh that waterfall :)
    I love the way that from the patio it looks like the stream starts back over the hill completely blended.
    And I love the edge where you are putting the pebbles at 10:55 to11:04 it looks so flat, and like it is at the water level, is that a fold on that edge where the overlap starts or have you done that lower?
    I am curious about the bamboo are they putting in a barrier? or did you/would you use concrete cloth?Lots of questions...

    • @AtlantisWaterGardens
      @AtlantisWaterGardens  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The liner is a good 4” above water level in that section. There is bamboo barrier installed to keep it back but that will have to watch for runners that can jump the barrier

    Wow Jaak! Excellent upgrade!! Maybe it was budget, but I would of insisted that concrete liner for this job especially since you pointed out the damage that bamboo root did with the original pond.! The level bit was very informative. I wondered about that as well. I was a little disappointed the customer did not opt for the cantilevered deck as a feed location for the fish. I am guessing that would have changed the leveling of the pond water height. I am not sure if I am spelling his name right, but Bolivar has done some phenomenal stone work that accentuates your pond artistry. It is part of the details I see with the rock stacking, placement, and selection. What you guys call, 'character rocks' I really enjoy. I hope you return in about 6 months. I want to see how the water clears with the koi back in pond and how the landscape completes the whole package. Yes, you guys rock!!

Given the bamboo damage shown on the prior liner, wouldn't it provide a better layer of protection than the felt? Finally is the cement fabric liner you use the Concrete Cloth™ Roll by Aquascape or something else?

    why not the cement impregnated Concrete Canvas? to help protect against the bamboo roots? the concrete canvas is a flexible, concrete impregnated fabric that hardens when hydrated to form a thin, durable, water proof and fire resistant concrete layer. It is the original concrete on a roll. This new category of material is known as a GCCM (geosynthetic composite cementitious mat) and must meet standard ASTM D8364.

If I turn the feature on for 10-15 minutes, all of water seems to disappear somewhere.
