I like coming back to this once a year , listen to the sage wisdom of Kevin describing what is something I understand & pursue the passion of. Skating DH/freeride is extremely liberating & zen.
Perfect video. Kevin fully understands the technical aspects of the equipment and the riding, as well as the intangibles that one can only understand from experiencing it directly, making him a great representative of downhill sports.
Great video! Hopefully it'll inspire more people into downhill skateboarding. For the record, Roger Hickey is the skater who's won more contests not only in downhill but in all skateboarding history. He won 287 consecutive races, 18X world champion during the 80s and the 90s. He's also one of the very few luge racers who rode above 100mph (L'Ultime Descente contest in Canada, 2017). Thanx! See you on a hill!
Riding a board at those speeds is unbelievable! I've always thought the way downhill riders turn corners by powersliding round looks so cool. Great video, really nicely shot and interesting hearing a downhill riders view on what they do!
I love getting an insight into the professionalism that goes into PP/Aera products. It's easy to see that the attitude manifests the exceptional quality and results!
Fascinating, and what an engaging dude they got at the head of the downhill department. I won't be trying this anytime soon? But its great to watch people who are really good at it.
lance mountain gave me a board when i was like 7 years old, the one with unicorn and lion on a shield on a pink board. i was like PINK?!? he says, "pink is for the pussy bro" Lance was so right, i been rockin pink ever since. anyways.... im 45 now and i still skate and am in the industry. my surfing, snowboarding and skating all had unique ways to carve, and because of that, i morphed into what i called street skating where i find a decent hill incline in neighborhoods and each driveway becomes a wave i try to rip and keep my speed as i whip back n forth sometimes going past 180 degrees from my surfing style. I started to see these downhill guys on regular boards sliding like that. Even how advanced I'd become, I'd never do this downhill where i have to slide to slow down.... im rethinking my entire life as I have prolly 30-40 skateboards now, Kevins giant wheels on 2 boards, one I made out of a solid plank of redwood. Ancient polynesians carved longboards out of redwood trees and were the first to surf. So I wanted to honor them and make a giant longboard, indy 210's and kev's wheels. Redwood is surprisingly lightweight. This board doesn't whip around like my others till about 35+mph. I've always loved downhill skating but, i just like straight shots, where i can max speed vs carving to not speed wobble out. when i was 16 i kicked my board to make it go fast and ran after it and jumped on.... got speed wobbles and dislocated my shoulder that hurts right now. hahahah fuck..... so yea.... Luge boards, and even plan on making a inline roller blade suit. Somethings wrong tho my friends, i can't push my board without my feet hurting really bad. even just a few times makes me unable to walk for a week. I live by skate or die rules, and downhill skating is the last way for me to shred. aka stay alive. well anyways, Lance if your listening, i've been giving out skateboards ever since, i'm about to give away a sick samba concave with the tiger on it, to a neighborhood kid i see walking too much. gots kev's wheels on it and swiss. few last couple things, i've been building ramps forever, and plan on making half pipes, and quarters kickers railboxes all sorts of stuff using recycled material that gets rid of 2/3 of the wood, and 2/3rd of the weight. cookie cutter ramps. backpack ramps. this reminded me how important my journey is and the legacy i left behind. the unwritten bad boys of skating that made all of your towns skate proof. 10-20 deep, with wax and an eye for banisters. I drive through towns, and look at how skateable the structures are and what not. skating forever changed me. i've mapped out universitys for ledges, rails, drop offs etc. i wanna move to a place that tony hawk thought was so dope he built a skatepark there. Lone Pine CA. and i will...... this vid is makign me rethink if im still capable of sliding like these guys.... i can't push.... fuckkit.
i put green transparent grip tape on that pink board, huge risors, indy210's, and green slimeball wheels. it was stolen off my porch within 2 weeks of owning it. i was the grommy sweeping the halfpipe watching the peralta bros shred sacramento ca. i never thought the guys doing handplants going around me would be such legends. that halfpipe was nuts. on a steep driveway still perfectly straight, with a roll in..... man..... all the skating ive been part of since 1994 NISS, and 1995 XGames, Huntington, Venice, Long Beach, inline and board, check this out, im pretty sure im the first to bolt a ripstick on a real snowboard and it actually works really good and feels like a snowboard! I have a lot of work to do
Ollie.L some of those clips are from years ago. The interview however is probably recent. These wheels won't come back because these developed into Powell Peralta
The whole time these was Powell, they were testing formulas constantly and finally found that right formula to release, so proud after years of testing they dropped the these name and threw Powells name on the wheels.

It's one of the cheapest activities one could participate in. Board, trucks, wheels, bearings, helmet, gloves. No lift tickets, just you and the road. You don't need the latest and greatest to enjoy downhill.
Given the accessibility and price point of the quality product that Powell provides, the sport is actually very a fun and affordable in comparison to other extreme sports.
Initially yeah, but the only thing you need to swap afterwards are wheels and bearings, and neither often unless you mistreat them or skate super hard. It's worth the investment
@@InlineDownhillVancouver you don't need the latest and greatest stuff yeah, but if you're not buying high quality equipment, it's going to dampen your progress, be less fun, and crucially you're going to be less safe.
