That was one of my biggest problems when making this level, because while it isn't as hard as the original, Metropolis was always borderline unfair hard as opposed to a normal difficulty spike, which I wanted to stray as far away from as I could. This is definitely one of my harder levels, but I tried to not make it unplayable to casual players who happen to stumble across it in-game
Honestly, i get its your level style and all but I feel your biggest weakness when it comes to level design is that its too linear for the most part (obviously, im not saying thats a bad thing, linearity can be good when done right (i like marble zone) but the route progression feels too... straight, without too much interesting going on imo (could've made the paths converge and maybe intertwine with each other a few times at least) Another thing im also kinda seeing in your stages is that it feels like they all have a low skill ceiling (which is basically the same difficulty as the skill floor) (which can also be a side effect of linearity, but tbf if theres not many hazards (which this stage doesnt rly have that many) it can be kinda easy, meaning the skill ceiling is quite low) Sonic games have this thing for making you replay stages, and the more you replay said stages the faster you can go and the more flow you can get. This rule applies to even linear stages for the most part But due to the low skill ceiling, theres not much room for improvement, and due to that, replaying the stage isnt rly worth it imo. other than that your editing skills are very good imo and the ideas are there, its just in terms of execution its not that great One more thing, these levels feel more flash over function Sorry for the long essay (and maybe brutally honest review), just wanted to get it out my chest
This is dead spot on, actually. I'm well aware of my inability to make levels more challenging, something about how I do stuff really emphasizes the decoration and style rather than the main core gameplay. I've never found myself to be great at level making in that aspect, compared to my friends peng, flamingwarrior, or kura, I'm really not that great at it. The linearity can be chalked up to my past with Mario Maker being my first entrance to level making as a whole, but I've been trying to branch out recently with multiple paths and whatnot (this level actually has three paths by the end, two throughout the first part), and good news goes here, I actually have implemented said pathway intertwining, just in a few levels y'all have yet to see. Overall this comment really does hit the mark at where I fall flat on level making, glad to see some honest criticism here

Has potential but it could be a LOT harder, so it lives up to the original Metropolis. I kinda see this as an act 0. Good work
