First episode on Bucket, our new budget TD42 build on the channel!

Excited for a budget build series! Would love to see something similar to the triton where you had a set budget and see what you can pickup of marketplace to make this td super capable!

What sort of price range would you like to see?
Oh yeah great idea! A proper budget build would be good to see but not too many sponored parts , too many YTers doing $5k builds and loading it with $50K of sponsored goods......I can think of one channel that does that all too often in Australia.....😏

Two things to add to your list - Costeffective CEM engine flush to get rid of all the internal sludge. Second is the plate the water pump mounts to is corrosion damaged inside, you can see it clearly at 14:05 This damage will cause poor water circulation, and when you turbo it your overheating problem will return.
They wear the pads on the rockers where they push on the top of the valve,and you can't get a correct measurement with the feelers. if they are still noisy, you can adjust them with the engine running and slowly tighten till the noise stops. Works super well
Oi for the overheating get a high flow water pump! I've heard it works wonders.
definately keen for a budget build series! i also have a cheap td42, got it for $2900 with 378k on the clock, now it has 396k. thinking about adding a turbo but not sold on it just yet. originally bought it as a weekend warrior, but somehow it turned in the daily while ive been working on the old daily and turning it into a garage queen lol
I just want to start by saying thank you, I live in Japan and they're pushing these old cars away, these TD42 can't even be registered in the Tokyo area prefecture. I just ordered my GQ TD42 and expect it in the next couple weeks, I plan to do these exact things you're doing and getting her right, please keep these videos coming because they will help me immensely.

Never paint threads mate, I guarantee that red rocker cover paint will be removed by your oil cap and end up in the oil filter.
But any thread should be left unpainted as it interferes with how it works (binding/stretch)
I was an engine builder for 10 years I've seen the effects.

Hey man I would strongly suggest looking at the skid factory TD build just to rebuild this motor safely
I would like to see a build were you used as many second hand/ Market place parts as possible , youve already started with your market place radiator.
Keen to see how you go about fixing the paint. I pressure washed my gu and was probably a good metre or more away and the paint literally flaked away. I got quoted close to $8k for a respray.

Clack, clack, clack...typical TD42, most likely the pump. Even with a new pump, new rocker shaft, new injectors etc, the clacking is still there in our TD42s, plus many other GQ - TD42 noises. Ah, old engine and old truck racket!

if it does end up getting hot could try a qikazz cooling upgrade kit relatively cheap and work really well.
10-15k budget would be sweet. See how far you can take it🤙🏻

Also, fill it with 50/50 new oil and transmission fluid, let it idle for ages and she will clean up. Do it every few months

Great video mate! Quick question, i've been recommended to use Nulon Pro-Strength Diesel HD Engine Treatment for my 4J which is nearing 400k. Just wondering if you've had any experience with this? People seem to be raving about it in the reviews. Cheers
Hey mate, don’t have any personal experience but nulon is a great company!
I do know the downsides of doing an engine flush is that you potentially can block oil gallery’s as well as the oil pickup because it releases all the sludge from the motor!
I'm pretty sure I figured out the problem! It has a Nissan Badge!
Would be checking your oil pick up with that much sludge in the rocker cover mate, don't want to be starving the big donk of oil

Quick question is it a coil wagon or leaf sprung, cause rn im rocking the leaf springs with airbags which apparently are rare to see people use 😂
GQ wagons only ever came with coils, if you’ve got a wagon with leafs make sure it’s not an MQ patrol lol, what engine does it have? GQ utes did have optional leafs though if that’s what you mean you’ve got.

Hi mate! I had to base coat with high temp alluminium colour paint, and the top coat of red was a anodised red!
