    Good information John!
    Here is a cool story:
Back in the early 1970s I taught archery merit badge at a local BSA summer camp.
Unfortunately I left my bear kodiak hunter bow strung one afternoon and the heat warped the limbs.
Distraught, I contacted my local shop and they contacted Bear Archery regarding my dilemma.
In a couple of weeks I received a new bow!!
And with it was a letter from Mr. Fred Bear thanking me for teaching archery and to avoid damaging my bow again!!!
I still have that bow, but unfortunately don't have the letter signed by Mr. Bear :-(

I was going to get that book the other day, I will be getting it for sure now, thanks for the video. I just found a Bear kodiak magnum, I belive its a 1966 , a one owner bow from the town of Grayling michigan! I'm going to do a short video on it shortly ...

In the early 70"s, I bought a 55# Bear Kodiak Magnum which I eventually sold when I got into compound bows. I recently got bock into archery when i pulled out my first bow, an Indian Archery Magnum Hunter. While walking through a local flea market recently I came across a 40# Kodiak Magnum for $45. It was in good shape, scratches in the finish mostly, but with a little dickering I bought the bow for $35. 3 Rivers Archery supplied a new string and a few other assorted items. Needless to say, both bows will be going nowhere until my grandson inherits them.

First time I ever saw a Bear bow, was a display in Gemco. Behind the rows of pvc pipe and all the reels put on them with 2 hose clamps for display. The little coin like logo takes me right back to that store. There was a Zodys across the street too, that had a cool camping section back then. Tim the tool man got his start on their Christmas commercial. A long long time ago.

I did have a Bear Polar my dad bought for me some time in the late 1950's it was great and look like brand new until my son borrowed it about 15 years a go and it along with all of his and his step brothers camping gear were stolen when camping at the Kern river out side of Bakersfield California . It did have the medallion you speak of . Happy trails

When I was young I purchased a bear compound. It sat at my parents when I was overseas and I used it when I got back. Probably should have serviced it. The bow string came apart when I was shooting. Good thing I had glasses on or I might be short an eye.

Thanks for this video ! I'm glad you mentioned where you bought that book .... I just bought a nice older Bear Grizzly from eBay , and from what I can tell it looks to be a 1958 or so it's 62" and 48# @ 28 . There is no medallion on this bow and it looks like a solid maple riser, it has gray glass on the back and belly . Thanks for sharing this video I truly appreciate it ! Good Shooting to you!

I appreciate the information about the book. Now I can look up my 1970 Tamerlane and my Bear 76er. I would like to support 3 Rivers, but unfortunately they don't offer a secure payment option that I'm comfortable with, such as PayPal, etc. I spoke to them and it's either enter your card info or give it to them over the phone. Speaking as someone with a Cybersecurity background, I choose not to take the risk so I avoid them now. Not to mention, I saved over $10 via Amazon with taxes and free shipping as a Prime Member.

Hey man thanks for the resource that's cool! I've got a lefty Victor Super Grizzly I believe from the 70s, refurbished by my neighbour and hobbyist in 2006 and gifted to me. Had no idea it was such a relic until recently, it shoots so well. May pick this book up

Hey there, John. Great info. Thanks for the lead on the book. Does it also have any info in it about the Bear bows relabeled for sale by Sears? I recently saw a Sears Raven by Bear that I was quite drawn to as a fan of relabeled/dual branded vintage stuff, but I couldn't find much if any info online about the Bear bows sold through Sears.

TH-cam suggested your video and it's a godsend!
I have been trying to figure out what I have for years but the markings were faded. Buddy's grandfather passed the bow down to his son, then his son (my buddy), who then gifted it to me as him and his dad couldn't string it. After getting a new string and a talk with my uncle (hunter/makes his own bows) who taught me how to string a bow w/ no tools; I have finally figured out what I have from your video/others. Been shooting it for about 7 years and prefer it over modern cheapo recurves (i.e Sammick sage).
    I have a 49# 64" Bear Cub Longbow with SN: C-5357-B
Anyway you could help me identify this a little better? Would greatly appreciate any help!

My Black bear, KL 46283 Amo-60" 50# silver medallion: I bought in 2012 was marked as being from 1968? could you confirm that with your handy book? (Edited to mention that between it and my early Bob Lee from 62' the bear is by far more intuitive. if maintained these bows will outlive me!
