You made the right choice with the ttr230 although you could have saved some cash by buying a 91 to 2005 XT225, virtually unchanged. I have 2, a 93 and a 2005. The 05 has been to Panama and back. The XT225 is still sold worldwide where emissions are not the highest priority. Weight and balance is the key. My last modern bike was a WR250R and I loved it. Kited it out like the one "big dog" Mark Sampson was riding to Alaska on. The suspension was plush, fuel injection great, power was there. Problem was I never made friends with pavement and my aging body wanted a lower seat height. Will be following your exploits to see if you can get any overnight camping in.

Thanks for the info. You are right, I am very happy with the ttr230. The only thing I wish was different is it should have better chain/sprocket protection in the back. All it takes is a little bump against the plastic guard and the chain fly's off. Since I am only 5 foot 2, seat height is pretty much the defining characteristic of any bike I pick. Have a GREAT DAY!!
