    I’m a prior undes seaman that ended up striking yeoman. I joined the navy with my bachelors degree and played all navy basketball. No disciplinary issues but kinda nervous about applying.

    Thank you for the information. I just dropped my packet for an upcoming SWO board for 21022022. I am a civilian, looking to commission through OCS. I watched your prior video on enlisted vs officer. You mentioned “A day in the life of a SWO” video. Would love to see that !

    Dope video, I am still in the process of applying for OCS, specifically Cryptologic Warfare Officer and Information Professional Officer kinda anxious. I am getting ready to do my interview appraisal board. Currently right now I am an Undes Airman and I got my bachelor’s degree in CyberSecurity from Old Dominion University prior to me joining the Navy.

    I just enlisted into the Navy and leave for bootcamp in December as an IT/ATF. I am very excited and plan to do my best and want to rank up quickly( I know that will be hard). I plan on trying to get a bachelor's while I am active. I greatly appreciate you making these videos and it gives me encouragement on aspiring for being more than an enlisted sailor. Do you have any tips for a future sailor?

    • @jongpark
      @jongpark 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just be mentally prepared. Workout and run everyday so that you’re not stressing about the physical portion of bootcamp. After two years, you can get TA tuition assistance that will pay for your entire bachelor degree and still save GI Bill for your children.
      Take a Bible or devotional with you and read a chapter everyday. You will need to lean on God everyday while you’re there, pray to God every morning being grateful that He give you breath each day. Have someone from home write you daily. And get ready tor 8 weeks of hell, but know it will be over and know God is saving you from being there forever because He sent Jesus.
      I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. -Philippians 4:13.

    Hello, I got Pro Rec -Y for SWO earlier this month. I’m prior enlisted EN3. I guess without making a whole YT essay, what are your thoughts on difficulty of RTC vs OCS, and what advantages did you have as a prior going through OCS? Thank you.

    • @victoriarickford
      @victoriarickford  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      First of all, congratulation on your selection. I’d say OCS is much more challenging; you are constantly being put to the test mentally and physically. This is a good thing because it’s preparing you for the tempo of the officer community especially being a SWO. Being able to handle pressure, multi-task and still get the job done. Going in as a prior, you will be leaned on for guidance from the new candidates and the DI’s and RDC’s will have a very high expectation of you. Biggest piece of advice, don’t let being a prior go to your head, stay open minded and be ready to learn. It will benefit somewhat being a prior, but stay humble. Hope this was helpful! Good luck in OCS, you’ll have fun!

    What do you do if you are a recent addition to your command and you don’t have an official eval?
    I have heard of folks who got picked up while in A school and I tried to do the same but didn’t know how to address that issue.
    I was the honor grad of my Yeoman A school,
    Academic distinction from Basic Enlisted Sub School, and I’m gonna be Meritoriously advanced to E-4/ YNS3 through the AAP fairly soon at my submarine command, and I did get that award as part of my graduation. I also possess and undergraduate degree from University of Arizona, and a Masters from University tot Southern California.
    Most people have told me to focus on getting my qualifications (dolphins warfare device) before submitting my package, others have advised me not to wait and shoot it out as soon as possible.
    P.S I’m interested in Supply Corps to be a Chop or possibly going down the Public Affairs Officer route.

    • @victoriarickford
      @victoriarickford  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      my recommend would be to shoot your shot and apply. put In the package now if being an officer is what you want. if you get a no, just continue to build your package (Warfare pins, leadership roles, etc..). it doesn't hurt to submit now. why didn't you join as an officer?

      I'm not 100% sure about this one, i want to say it may come down to the institution where the degree is from. Best bet would be to look in the Commissioning Programs Instruction on MyNavyHR website and the answer may be in there. I'll also try to get the answer.

    Hello sir! I entered with my a bachelors degree and I have only been enlisted for about 7 months now. I talked to CWO and he had said because of my degree it the path is little easier. My question is when asking for a recommendation letter what do you ask the person to write about you? Thank you.

    • @victoriarickford
      @victoriarickford  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of the time the person you ask will want you to draft one for yourself and they will chop. I submitted my package with 0 letter of recommendations and I made it, so don't get to hung up on it.

    Thank You for the helpful video! I am currently enlisted with my contract ending in 2025, I came in with my degree not knowing my options to go OCS. When would you say a good time to start the process going? I am afraid of missing deadlines or waiting too long to submit everything.
    Thank You!

    • @victoriarickford
      @victoriarickford  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you recently joined, i would recommend really diving into your current job and excelling there first. Leadership roles, EP evals, building a name for yourself at your current command. These are going to be things the OCS board will look for and what will set you apart for other candidates. Once you've met those milestones, then would be the best time to get your package together and submit. It never hurts to start building your package now though. This will help you in the long run when you're actually ready to submit. You'll be extremely familiar with the process and know the instruction 100%.

      yes, so if your aren't apart of the Future Mustang Mentorship group on fb, I recommend you join. There are a ton of officers in there that may be stationed or know someone that is stationed in your area. Thats one way to get officers, also you could set up a meeting with your XO via your COC and he should be able to reach out to other commands for assistance.

    • @victoriarickford
      @victoriarickford  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No you don't, as long as you have your BA you can apply for OCS. BUT once you're enlisted, now you have to establish yourself as a leader because that is what the OCS selection board will be looking for. The process is long for both sides, but I recommend you come in as an officer if your end goal is to be one.
