Detroit Metro is one of the nicest, well planned out airports in the country. It’s easy to maneuver, and the Delta Sky Lounge is very comfy. Wish ATL was this nice.
ATL is too. The only “issue” is that ATL has way more passenger traffic, which makes it harder to navigate. TBH, ATL is easy to navigate. DTW is usually empty
NO, the dots are AMAZING! They stop birds from flying into the windows, so I’ll gladly deal with pics/vids with dots. Besides, if you pull back 10 ft/3m, ish, the dots fade away. DEEtroit love!!!
i miss the way the airport was in the 70s and 80s where you could walk thru the terminals and go right to the gates, No TSA, none of that ,, Things Changed a lot in the early 90, People used to be able to meet you right at the gate :) , when we came back in 91 from Desert storm,, there was no one around, you had to meet them in Baggage claim,,, and things just changed even more after that ,,, Glad i got to live the good ole days
Grew up in Detroit, used to love flying out of DTW. Reminds me of a mall in terms of its variety of shops and restaurants. Everything from a quick bite to eat to a nice sit down dinner. Not to mention it’s ridiculously easy to navigate. Left or right. Take the train if your gate is far from security.
The concourse is very long. The ExpressTram is def helpful when it's in operation. It was closed for a long time while being repaired. Operation has also been suspended due to the pandemic.
I wonder do they play ▶️ Motown songs through out the airport, after all, Detroit is the home 🏘️ of Motown! Blessings and Hugs 💖❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🤗🙏🙏🤗🙏🤗🙏🤗🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏!
hard to believe its been that long,, ive lived 5-7 miles from the airport all my life and watched the whole restructure ,, Major change from the original Smith ( blue terminal in the video now demolished) and the Davey terminal which got tore down and rebuilt as the North Terminal never used to be anything on the property where the McNamara terminal stands
Ive worked in the North terminal, and flown Southwest out of it as well , Have never flown Delta, Maybe one day ,, But have never been in the McNamara terminal so any video for me is cool
looking forward to seeing these sights in person in September. Flying Buffalo to Philadelphia with a layover there (because cheaper to do so) and the layover is 4 hours
If the airport authority was smart, they’d close the North Terminal, move all international flights to concourse a, while moving all other domestic flights to concourses b & c.
And a 35-year former Republic Northwest and Delta employee they definitely did it right when they built the McNamara at least upstairs downstairs where the ramp workers are different story
When I flew up in Sept. I was shocked how dead it was (as evident by your video) compared to how it has been since 2016 when I first came up. *sigh* One day it shall return to greatness!
Much stuff was shut down here during the Pandemic, but just airline travel as whole, but our governor shut the state down for the most part during the pandemic,,
@@johnniec2861 I traveled more in 2020 than ever lol NC, VA, GA, IL, MI. All flights but VA. All the way by car from DTW to Grand Rapids up to Traverse City and Ann Arbor back down eastern back to DTW.
they have one hotel in the Terminal , then all the others are a few miles away North of the Airport and East of the Airport yes they have shuttles that run to most of the hotels and also to the Parking Garages as well as the Off site parking on the airport complex as well as US Park and other things off the Airport campus down the street
Our son is getting off a Delta flight from Japan (in this airport) and only has 39 minutes to connect to his Delta flight to Phila. We are a nervous wreck he won’t be able to board on time. What are your thoughts?
I think it might be too short. Mostly because you have to get through customs. If you don't have to wait long there, I'd say there may be a chance to make it, if the flight from Japan arrives early. I am by no means an expert on this, literally anything can happen while traveling. Finger crossed!
@@thecrazyairplaneguy1304 thank you so much! My son knows he has to hustle if not jog to make his flight! Shame on delta for having such a short connection
@@MrDeputy83 I've noticed Delta flights from Asia often times come in early, especially if there are good wind conditions during the flight. If that were to happen it's totally possible. At a lot of other airports you'd have zero chance to make it in 40 minutes.

wasnt called McNamara , was Detroit Metro Airport, in the 70s-90s then they Changed it to Detroit Wayne County Airport in the video you can see the original Smith Terminal was still there ( the Blue Terminal ) theyve torn that down since this video was made , we used to go there and go on the observation deck they had on the west end of the terminal and you could watch all the planes land and take off, you go upstairs and pay a dime in the turnstyles, back then if youre old enough , they also had Pay bathroom stalls, you had to pay 25c to use the commodes LOL
Thanks for the great video. I will be having a transit flight at this airport but I need to exit the arrival hall after landed at Concourse B & C then check in again at Concourse A for the international flight. I wonder is transfering from B, C to A easy? Is 3 hours enough for me? I wish to spend some time walking a bit around the airside and take some pictures.
Please answer: so i am going on a delta flight. i know this vid says concourse B for most delta flights but do i need to take the express tram or can i walk from security? and if so do i need to pay for it??
Sorry for the somewhat late response, you don't have to go on the express tram. If you're short on time, it saves you a ton of time though, and it's completely free.
I made the decision in my life to not b around punks that simple, bs people full of bs, just yesterday I ran into a Avon rat, who told me he does not give a f, that is how these people run a business , I would never say that to a costumer, let alone tell someone something, and do something else, I work for solid people And make moves with solid people , that is one of the most important things a person can b, something theses rats can’t ever be.

I just came home from a 2 hour flight from denver and this airport and the security is amazing!!!
This place is so nostalgic for me. I never realised how fast the transport tran was rather.
I’ve walked through that tunnel a couple times. Really cool 😎
This is a beautiful terminal! After watching a trip report, I’m like, I have to see this terminal and this is an awesome video!😸
Love that moment coming out of the tunnel at the escalators/elevators and you're surrounded by Motown music.
Always thought this terminal was ahead of its time when it first opened. And it’s still well-kept!

Cool tunnel

Nice tour and very nice traffic :-)
Thank you very much :)
Yay, you are finaly back :D
Happy to hear that!
If my connecting flights are on opposite ends of McNamara, will 38 minutes connection be enough? 😅 Both Delta. I'm nervous it won't be enough!
Assuming there are no delays or having to go through customs, I think it should be enough. Thanks for watching!

How did you get pass security? Did you have a ticket? Nice tour. Fly out of there quite often.
