- The fourth and final optional boss in Xenoblade Chronicles, Avalanche Abaasy can be found on Three Sage Summit at night in snowstorm weather. This guy is by far the toughest, and you need to have your gems set up just right. You absolutely have to fight him at night with Night Vision gems or you'll likely not be able to hit him at all. My setup is shown before the fight. I do use topple liberally, but am not able to keep him down due to some resists and mistakes on my part, so you get to see the kind of damage this guy can do. Unbeatable is an absolute must, as many of his attacks are capable of one shotting a character, or even the entire party. If you plan to fight him without toppling him at all, you're going to need to have perfect timing with Monado Armour, Unbeatable on everyone, and plenty of healing. Dunban or even Reyn might work better as a tank, as Fiora lost aggro a few times. I just wanted to see if I could beat these bosses with the party I liked the most. I usually main Fiora but yeah Melia's AI isn't so great for hard bosses so if you have her in your party it's best to just main her.

The crazy thing for me that a lot of people don't seem to realize is that this video came out 1 month after the game released in Europe, and in 1080p (I'm assuming it's running in Dolphin). Crazy how English-speaking fans managed to figure out how to effectively beat the hardest superboss in an 80+ hour game with unique battle mechanics this fast.

I always found it so strange whenever Shulk was one of the AI controlled members in your party when you got a vision. When you go to warn him you tell Shulk, "Hey you saw another vision." Which is weird because shouldn't he know that already? Just found it funny.
Shulk is a pretty sociable and well-mannered chap. Maybe he just feels embaressed talking about it. Also seperation between gameplay and story? Iono whatever lol
The inflections make it sound more like he just told them he had it, if you ask me. Its kind of a quirk of the gameplay but I think they play it well

Also, spear break out of all the moves killed it. A melee attack by the ether user killed the strongest enemy in the game. xD

And he wasted a Max combo gauge with shulk behind the enemy. He could have dropped a x5 back slash for stupid damage and kept the combo going.

Apparently his fire breath allows him to maintain optimal body temperature. That's just a guess, but, yeah.
It was probably frozen in ice, and Zanza moving the Bionis freed it. That, or the ether in the air was dense enough to revive it, and it freed itself.

I'm five years late I know, but holy crap that could be why it's called *Avalanche* Abaasy, it was alive during the fight between the two gods, and the bionis' movements caused an avalanche that buried one of the ancient Dragons until it was uncovered and revived by the resulting ether flow when the bionis reawoke during the story of XC. Holy shit.

its important to do quests and all of them so you can get your monado arts.
Really nice video, helped me a lot with the gem setup and general ideas. For anyone who tried this and failed (like me lol), I found using Shulk + Dunban + Fiora to be easier, in which case Dunban would have the same gems as Fiora, and just be topple locking using steel strike and use Heat Haze for dps.

You get it late in the game from an NPC on the Junks ship. It's one of 5 different side-quests where you need to gather special parts to create new replica Monado's.
Xenoblade Chronicles is definitely one of the best RPG's money can buy.
since you linked with Fiora, instead of equiping Strenght VI, equip Critical VI, along with Double Attack, you are looking at critical double strikes. Another option instead of equiping Strenght VI is Attack Plus VI (raises attack by 50%).

This is awesome all your stats are bombdigity! (Amazing!) I'm definitely gonna keep an eye out for all the armor and gems as I go though out the game! :D Also one thing. How is it that you got all your gems to be VI? Is there some method when using the furnace? I'm still confused with the whole processes of using it. Cool video by the way!
I can answer that. Normally with gem crafting if you get any percentage over 100 it creates a gem. Well if you get over 200 percent it goes into heat and you get a gem one level higher than the crystal/cylinder you used, in this case my level 5 Night Vision becomes a level 6 Night Vision. If however, you succeed in getting the total over 300, you go into Mega Heat and you get two gems instead of one. With a little practice you can a ton of really great gems pretty consistently.

Thanks! I did this very shortly after the game came out in english, and basically just winged it with what I knew, using the characters I normally used. I think you can beat these bosses with pretty much any party set up with a little prep.

yea, that's just what it looks like to me, but well done, though I have beaten the game 100 % already I still enjoy fighting the super bosses from time to time, I just hope monolith softs new game is gonna have some extremely though bosses too

I have to boast this... Shulk, Ryne, Sharla defeated Avalanche Abaasy, no chain attacks or topple at all, used it to revive instead, it went from night to day (where i had to survive) back to night. Had about 15 deaths, incredibly messy but i acutally did it, maxed AGI yes but you can kill any superboss with any combination of characters, just some are better than others, god that was painful.
C'mon, Rydia, you missed a chance to use a bonus damage x5 Back Slash during that long chain attack...That damage would have been epic!

Eater you get at Makna Forest... the quest is called "Makna Ruins - 4"

the roman numeral next to the name of talent art attacks represents how high monado shield needs to be to block it. that other number i'm not sure about, i noticed it changes every time the vision tag breaks, but don't really know what it means

11:30 such a clutch Chain. I also think it is better to use Monado Armor and wait for his attack and then stop toppling him, so he can attack you while the damage reduction is still in place. So far you let Monado Armor run out twice.
What i do, is as soon as a vision happens i spam monado armour, and then the skill refills it for free
Well I know how frustrating it is, but I found my own way around it. Just fight all the small enemies till your chain attack bar is fully maxed (Would help if you had Dunban's Skill that reduces reduction of Chain attack bar outside of battle linked to whoever your playing as). Challenge the field boss or story boss and when the vision comes, wait till the attack gets closer to reality, then chain attack right before it attacks. Doing a Break Topple Daze will destroy the vision from happening.
how would i go about maxing her tension in battle. i beat the game without knowing a lot about battle it seems.

Are you playing on HD television using component cable? I at least am, and though Wii is incapable producing HD graphics, It looks really good, as good as in this video.
you can get them all at the first go but it requires reputation in order to get the appropriate quests for "Eater" and "Armour" ..."Enchant" and "Buster" is what you have at the beginning... later on as you progress with the story you get "Shield", "Speed", "Purge" and "Cyclone".

you know as you finish quests you get 1 to 4 stars and at best a big star which gives you most reputation... there are 5 big areas where you can gather reputation... like colony 9 is one of them and in order to get the quests you need, you have to work on your reputation... just talk to people that have exclamation marks over their head and even if they don't it may lead you to other quests... you have to do those quests even if they don't pay off anymore.

The number represents the level at which your Monado shield levels needs to be to deflect the attack. Anything above 12 I believe is not blockable.
All the people who can run dolphin without slowdowns are using i7.
My I bought my PC in 2006 (VGA later) and it was really a monster, the best PC you could see that year...

Oooooh. Yeah, I play as Shulk constantly and even I use Battle soul accidentaly. Like that one time I used it with a full talent art icon. Or when I accidently used battle soul and it actually cost me the battle.

Needless to say, if you can beat this guy, then Zanza is no problem.
I remember that I was waiting in the summit for the other monsters and suddenly this guy appeared. I was like "WTF?! LVL 120?!?!" and I accidentally pulled it. Needless to say I ran away like if there was no tomorrow.
On a side note, I didn't know you could retopple during the topple.

enzyme3254 yes, because debuff resist covers everything except topple and daze. you may want to slap on topple resist on a party member or two if you don't want to be breaking your offensive to help them up.

Well no one answered you so, tension is everything. It raises your chances of more rounds. After that, like you said, it depends on affinity, but after that, you get what you get.
Yeah now i reached mechonis body and still can't shield from arts without numbers. These kinds of arts really make it challenging to fight with bosses :D

If you play the game using the Dolphin emulator, the graphics are 1080p. Apparently, the designers programmed the game for it, even though the crappy old Wii doesn't natively do it at all.
Max Debuff Resist, or Divine Protect will do just fine. Also link Melia and Dunban's spike damage down skills via the skill link (takes LOTS of affinity coins though) You can also keep instant death from happening by using Monado Purge, Cure Bullet/Round (from Sharla), or like he did in the video, keep Abassy down with topple.

i don't see why you wouldn't wanna have shulk as the leader... when you get a vision you don't have to waste a block from the party gauge to warn him about it
