Hi, I'm Akta :) I'm trying to find more meaning in my relationships, work, and life in general, because I think there's more to it than what society tells us. I try to approach things in a less overwhelming way, because I think there's already so much pressure on us from society.

I always struggle with that pressure of needing monetize everything. It doesn’t help when I show my family and friends my photography (which I do for fun) and they say “hey you should be a graduation or wedding photographer.” I’ve tried monetizing previous hobbies and, as you said, it just led to me burning out on them. We need to go back to being present in the moment and not on optimizing our life for social media.

We're all suffering in the same way. It feels like we're living in a twilight zone, a fever dream, whatever you want to call it - and what's truly gone is the pursuit of community and enriching the lives of others. Primitively and organically, human beings thrive in systems of community, like being a part of a village or a tribe - much like you would've seen hundreds of years ago, although they still exist (in very small numbers). Individualism (or I would call it, macro-narcissism), technology, and the pursuit of happiness/success, driven by a relentless sense to prove our self-worth, is absolutely ruining the experience of life for everyone living it right now. So now the question stands, how do we move forward from here? Thank you for making this video and for your genuine honesty. You are the person the world needs more of, unfortunately so many of us lack the awareness to even slightly comprehend the nature of our situation.

As a 43 years old woman, I relate so much to what you say ! Before smartphone, I used to have a lot of hobbies, but now I just feel lost when I have free time so I take my phone and waste my time on it. I feel like I don’t really live my life anymore, like I used to, that I miss all the important stuff. Not all but almost. Smartphone and social media are the worst things that happened to me.

You're absolutely right for saying that hobbies without a purpose is blatant and meaningless. It would keep you entertained but won't serve a pursuit in the long run. I like reading non-fiction but i haven't read anything in a while, this video encouraged me to read everyday and enhance my writing skills because I believe it's limited and my vocabulary isn't wide enough. So instead of using my E diary online I am about to maintain a physical diary to converse my thoughts. I'll update how I progressed after a few months hopefully.

Moving away from endless scrolling is so right. I know the expression is 'mindless', but I think it is more of a habit. I have found that trying to learn a new language is a great way to combine short, focussed scrolling with a purpose and also fun.

I resonated with so much of what you shared. For me, I tend to be on Twitter a lot always scrolling, and even though I find myself entertained by the memes and jokes I'm still so bored. Social media itself can be useful but it is also a big waste of time if we don't use it responsibly, just imagine how many things we could have achieved if it wasn't for mindless scrolling. I've always envisioned myself as a published author, I could have probably written and finished my book by now or probably brush up on my art skills. Social media has stolen so much of that time. Walking in nature, riding a bike, having games night or visiting a family member is so much more rewarding than mindless scrolling. Do I feel I could survive without social media, most definitely, there is just so much more to life than scrolling, travelling is something I also want to accomplish. Social media addiction is no different from substance abuse. I feel overtime social media will not matter to most of us and I can't wait for everyone to experience this....anyways Awesome video

Akta, I was just thinking yesterday about when you would post a new video because I love your content so much! And I agree with everything you said. Hobbies are good to pursue in of themselves-not necessarily for a specific purpose or use. I love how engaging with art or reading a book for example allows for contemplation. Most people today don’t know how to bask in beauty or to simply deeply reflect, which is what many hobbies allow us to do.

I also thought: maybe we should aim to spend our time in internet meaningful too. I think there is no perfect solution, but combination of environment changes to get rid of triggers, easy, fun and meaningful offline hobbies and working on intention to spend information consuming online for something really meaningful, with purpose should make difference.

From around 2:44 onward explains so much as to why I've personally not done so much in terms of social media in the last year or so, particularly Instagram, apart from mindlessly scroll at any given opportunity. Especially the thought of being pressured to make things look great or even perfect, feeling everything needs an outcome, and more importantly, feeling like we're not "allowed to play due to constant pressure to excel," - and as a whole, feeling like we're not good enough or even gonna fail altogether, which, thinking about it, can be very detrimental overall to people's wellbeing.
So thank you, Akta, for expressing it in this way. Really spoke to me personally in loads of ways.

Recently I had this conversation with someone that some hobbies are menat to remain as hobbies, a space for ourselves. It is not always about to take it to a next level, monetize it or anything related because sometimes its doing these things that takes away the enjoyment and joy that bring us this hobby of ours. Of course, there are plenty of hobbies that we can try, have (not all at the same time haha) and even monetize and take it to a next level.

    Hey Akta! 👋
Just like many of your previous videos, this one really spoke to me. It’s so true that whenever we tend to mindlessly scroll on our phones, we end up losing sight of the very reason we enjoy the hobbies we enjoy in the first place. It’s only when we practice getting into the habit of actually enjoying our hobbies that we end up feeling fulfilled with the experience the way we always have growing up.
Sending you lots of love!!! ❤️❤️❤️🤗

I don’t think that’s the main issue, (but a issue, yeah)
Scrolling is easy, it’s passive, it’s instant gratification. A lot of other hobbies are not. But I feel similar compulsive effect as social media when I’m making puzzles, for example, or even with berry picking (but you just can’t go to nature every day full year, and puzzle ends, your back hurts))) So other ways to spend time and hobbies can be addictive too, but they usually limited by something, on the other hand social medias are always with us, that’s different, too easy, very little effort = very addictive)

And about “you don’t have a hobby cause it should be meaningful” issue - what’s more meaningless that endless content consuming? And yet It didn’t stop us at all. I use Duolingo for French language - just for fun and feeling that I have a bit of good alternative to social media. isn’t that enough reason? For me it is :)

    • @АсяЦ-ф4з
      @АсяЦ-ф4з 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

But yeah I agree that the issuee with hobbies are present. People just can’t relax enough to do something for the sake of doing without focusing on result, they feel internal pressure :) And social media too often link hobbies back to social media: when I try detox I stumble every time: you try cook, but you need to google recipe, going for a walk? There was some saved place I was planning to visit, let me check the integration makes it harder.

Not endlessly scrolling has been pretty easy for me. For starters, I don't follow too many accounts on social media. Second, I only have a small number of apps on my phone. I don't even think this is intentional. I really don't know how to waste my time on my phone. Sometimes I would try scrolling as much as I can, but I eventually give up and put my phone down and do something else with my time.
