    It was always explained to me that the taurine was included to help counteract the jittery feeling caffeine and the other energy supplements gave you, and that it overall mellowed you out and let you focus more intensely. At least, that's what my one friend with ADD who takes it to help with that said.

    I get migraines (the severe type with blindness/auras). I find that a supplement I take with Taurine (2000mg) crushes the migraine during onset. Recently it has been suggested that migraine onset is characterised by a 'tsunami' of glutamate release into the brain. Taurine may play a role in deactivating some of that as it's happening. I'm not a doctor - and none of this is proven by studies. However, if you get migraines like me, this may be a relatively low risk hack to try out.

    • @krisv8407
      @krisv8407 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Sean, I suffer from the same type of migraines. My suggestion is to take acetaminophen and ibuprofen at first sign of a migraine. For me, I usually get blind spots before the onset of a migraine. Hope this helps

    • @davidwbeaton
      @davidwbeaton 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I used to get silent migrates, which manifests as blurred vision then a low grate head ache. I would average at least once a day. I found taurine eliminated all vision issues and head ache. I’ve been taking it now for 10 years with no side effects.

      Yall lithium does it too. Thats its main job in the brain. Everyone I've met who has had migraines tested low in lithium on their blood tests. I take lithium orotate OTC. I do take taurine as well. I have taken 1.5g for 9 months now. Its a game changer too. No side effects from lithium or taurine. They make me feel light and clean and airy.

      @@Sarahizahhsum You are correct. I'm just discovering my own autism and ADHD. Just started taking high dose taurine (4-6gms/day) a couple days ago and I feel brain inflammation being released all throughout my skull. Relaxing on deeper levels than ever before. I also just learned about lithium being essential mineral. UPS will drop it off tomorrow. It was good to read your comment and get confirmation on some hunches I had.
      Seems that nearly all disease has inflammation as one of its symptoms. Migraines and different types of autism are indications of brain inflammation. I've taken all sorts of antioxidants, even Amla powder being the most potent known to science. They all work in their own way on different systems. But this Taurine has actually released more inflammation over the past couple days than any other antioxidant I've ever tried. Been researching all sorts of health stuff for nearly 30 years. Taurine is my new holy grail. If the lithium ends up working the way I think it will, my Autism/ADHD will be nearly indetectible and I can start living a more productive life.

      Unfortunately true. Smoking is a long term destructive force. It is relentless and determined, like the Terminator. It'll get you eventually.

    • @StringsOfTheHarp
      @StringsOfTheHarp 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Just because someone is a smoker doesn't always effect them as much as you think.
      I bet in your mind you have the stereotype that people who smoke tend to be those overweight people who sit down most of the time.
      Smoking would reduce the amount of oxygen flowing in the persons blood, that is true; but people have also shown that when their bodies lack something they develop small coping strategies.
      You should be asking, how often does the person smoke, how often do they work out. Smoking once every few days impacts you less than if you chain smoked and if you were already really fit before you started smoking it is easier to keep the same level of fitness than to gain more levels while being shorter on breath.
      Athletes have been known to have oxygen deprivation during training because it can help you improve quicker by forcing the body into anaerobic training quicker and longer but also causing exhaustion quicker.
      Just the fact that you went "one of the dumbest things I've ever heard" means you don't even watch the news about current events.
      Plus the key part of learning is curiosity and the ability to be taught different to what you know. Instead of flat out denying something you should at least take time to look into what the possible causes might be.
      And no, I'm not saying smoking makes you fitter, it will destroy your body. But while you are younger you can push your body with things like oxygen deprivation more than when you are an adult.

    Energy drinks provide psychological energy for those who are trying to get back into a regular sleep routine or are trying to stay awake. My research into the topic reveals that there are people that drink it for the taste, but that statistic is very low. A person's sleep pattern may be motivated by the drugs they abuse or take; Marijuana is linked to energy drink consumption in this way. People drink the stuff for motivation.

    Actually a lot of peple, me included, in Hungary felt the energy drinks went less effective, when taurin was left out because of some regulation.
    We didn't know what was the cause, at first. Just felt, where 1 can was enough, now needs 2-3 cans...
    But some didn't felt the change, so maybe it doesn't effect everyone the same way...

    The theory goes that taurine balances out the otherwise overstimulating effects of energy drinks which contain stimulants like: Guarana, caffeine, sugar etc. it increases gaba receptors, so it’s basically reduces anxiety effect. people go and buy taurine on its own or mix it with caffeine thinking it’s Guarana and a stimulant. Nubs.

    the reason of that mixed bag of results comes from not understanding the function of taurine. it does not change VO2 max because as far i understood, the pH buffering function of taurine has only effects on the conversion rate of fatty acids in ATP production. but at VO2max the mitochondria switches 100% to glucose burning.
    it only shows effects at lower performance regarding fatMax. and that is more a health thing or low carb/ketogenic athletes.
    of course it is perfect for people who have too much (visceral) fat and are deficient in taurine because of hyperglycemia. but it goes beyond that. it showed a higher fat burning rate in swimming athletes at 70% vo2max. lots of benefits, also from supplementing to healthy people. but the right studies have to be made first. if you make a study that checks if hairs are getting green after intake of taurine, then it will fail.

      B12 is an important nutrient but not a source of energy, those are carbs, proteins and fats. If I'm reading the second paragraph right it is necessary to metabolize fats and proteins which may be where the confusion is coming from.

    • @rdizzy1
      @rdizzy1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah, a can of soda (cola) has only about 1/3 to 1/5 of the caffeine per fluid ounce of an energy drink. Caffeine is the main source of energy, b12 pales in comparison.

    So we've put this stuff in our drink, we don't know what it does, if anything at all. But all we know is that no one's complained about it thus far, so we'll keep using it and see what happens. - Red Bull Exec. 2016

  • @TheJaredtheJaredlong

    Sometimes these "studies" baffle me. Not sure if taurine is a factor? Then why not test taurine in isolation? It's one of the cardinal rules of the scientific method: control the variables. Testing thr entire drink without a follow up focus is as useless as me just drink it myself and keeping a diary.

    • @Romanticoutlaw
      @Romanticoutlaw 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      obviously. But it sounds to me like a halfassed study to begin with if the sample size is that small.

    • @MrNateSPF
      @MrNateSPF 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Money. Corporations tend to only spend such resources on things that can be patented, which Taurine can not. So for example if RedBull funded a comprehensive study and they actually found tangible benefits they could print it right on their can, but so could all of their competitors. Effectively nullifying any incentive to fund such studies.

    I suffer from.migraines and I've found that 15 minutes after consuming Red Bull that it took the edge off the migraine or stopped it from happening when I caught it early. I tried for over a year to and figure out what it was about Red Bull that made me feel more "awake" and not foggy brain, lethargic and took the edge off the migraines throbbing pain. The only thing I could figure was the Taurine. So I did a fair bit of research about Taurine and migraines and holy heck.....everyone was praising the hell out of it for migraine control and management. I'm yet to buy it as a bulk product and try it as my son who is 7 is now getting migraines as well so we want to see if indeed Taurine actually does make a difference to how we feel in the morning ings and migraine management.

Personally I think I'm a smart kid who's very alert in class (I assume that bc I get straight A's--though that doesn't necessarily mean I'm "smart." I may be smart in the sense of paying attention in class and understanding what I'm being taught). I'm also a fast learner especially in memorization and I'm also a pretty good musician.

    So I was looking for a more in depth explanation of how it's made and found that taurine is derived from l-cysteine.
    The majority of l-cysteine is obtained industrially by hydrolysis of animal materials, such as poultry feathers or hog hair.
    It can be synthetically made, but the cost for the finished product is a lot higher (and we all know they will choose a cheaper option is possible).
    I will stick to water and home made ginger beer etc... going forward 😉
