the end of this music makes me feel really fking alive... sometimes when im running at 5 am, in on the street alone, and this song this songs shows up on my phone with the sunrise, is just breathtaking...
I can't believe how good these guys are. I love how much they are into their own music. Their passion for what they do is unreal. And it's not just a few of them, it's every member. Everyone is singing whether in a mic or not. And when there is no singing, THEY ARE DANCING!!!! I love the almost unconditional passion that they have for their own music and what they do and can't wait for what's in store for the future. I pray that the love continues to stay with all of them.
I would venture to guess that at least some of their joyful intensity derives from a shared faith. This song is based on C.S. Lewis' "The Screwtape Letters", a fictional work of Christian apologetics.
Knowing the context of this song, and how its based on the screwtape letters makes it so much more powerful. I've struggled with spiritual warfare and intrusive thoughts a lot, and whenever I feel it creep up I listen to this song and remind myself I am not claimed by the devil, I know who I am in Christ. Praise the lord for this song, and this beautiful recording of it :)
Every time I listen to this song and it gets to the collective scream I nearly shed a tear. Absolutely beautiful folks. Thank you for enriching our lives with your talent and skill!
When I was a child I didn’t hear a single word you said The things I was afraid of They were all confined beneath my bed The years have been long And you have taught me well To hide away The things that I believed in You've taught me to call them all escapes Well I know who you are now I know who you are I know who you are now Standing on the threshold, I saw another world beyond myself And in my hour of weakness You were there to see my courage fail The years have been long And you have taught me well To sit and wait In planning without acting Steadily becoming what I hate Because I know who you are now I know who you are I know who you are now I have always known you And you have always been there in my mind But now I understand you And I will not be part of your designs Because I know who I am now And all that you’ve made of me And I know who you are now And I name you my Enemy And I know who I am now And I know who I want to be And I want to be more than This devil inside of me. (The song was inspired by "The Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis)
this music has been helping me fight depression for so long, it has almost a religious tone by now. I love all your musics, but this one is a masterpiece, lyrics and instrumental are just perfect
the oh hellos capture everything i love about music, raw energy in every sense of the word. this song makes me want to dance and melt at the same time.
Amo The Oh Hellos, 💛💚💛 Amo The Oh Hellos!! It's simple, I love these guys, they are awesome, their songs make me feel all my feelings and they transport me other place.
omg! why am i 3 years late to this. i am stunned at its brilliance, yet, gutted ive been missing listening to this awesome band for the last 3 years... you can't help but smile watching them all just go for it.
This is my absolute favorite version of Dear Wormwood. I fell in love with the album version when I first heard it. It's just gorgeous, heartfelt, and powerful. This version is even more so. I first heard this while watching an animation and didn't realize it wasn't the original recording until Maggie and Amber came in with the harmony. From there, more harmonies are added, the instrumentals get louder, and the whole song grows more intense than the album version. My favorite part is 4:18. It gives me shivers every time. In the album, that moment is unison save for Maggie's descant, which comes in towards the end of the "ooh." It is amazing to listen to. But this version goes so far beyond it. The slide into a dissonant "aah" from every band member. The only word I can call it is a wail. A wail for what of their life has been lost to "Wormwood" and their newfound conviction to be something more. This song is so incredibly powerful.
What a great song. Thanks a lot ofr your contribution to my faith. I hope you accept my subtitles in Spanish so LATAM people could enjoy and understand your splendid lyrics. Blessingss!!!!
I love this the meaning of this song. I appreciate the full lyrics by @Daniel Eusterman. Does anyone know if this is coming on there new album (because its not on there existing albums) or where I can find the studio version of this song? Thanks, help is greatly appreciated.
Aaron, it will be on the new album. You can download the whole audio tree session here for 6 bucks(totally worth it) : audiotree.tv/session/the-oh-hellos/
These guys aren't a band, they're a fucking miniature orchestra. I love that part where they stop to "oooh"!
+TheEthos Yeah I was gonna say, these guys are a like an indie-folk Slipknot or some shit
Justin Fitzpatrick Couldn't agree more or maybe I could? hahaha
Anybody else get chills down their spine at the end?? Because that was awesome.

When I first heard it, I couldn't stop trembling for an hour and had to burn my pants in a fire.
gluon Your pants? Now that's a story.
Every time
I’m thrilled and sad at the same time

@@petersmall1574 yes! They’re actually Christian
The crescendo at the end solidifies why this is my favorite live band. They all obviously love this and give it their all.
oh to be in a band in 2014 screaming into a microphone with people you're deeply connected to in a way no one else could ever understand...
It's the scream... idk where it comes from. But that still rings as one of the greatest moments in the album

FACTS!!! the studio recordings are amazing, but live recordings are on a whole other level U__U✌️
Every time I listen to this song and it gets to the collective scream I nearly shed a tear. Absolutely beautiful folks. Thank you for enriching our lives with your talent and skill!
love the build of intensity.
When I was a child
I didn’t hear a single word you said
The things I was afraid of
They were all confined beneath my bed
The years have been long
And you have taught me well
To hide away
The things that I believed in
You've taught me to call them all escapes
Well I know who you are now
I know who you are
I know who you are now
Standing on the threshold,
I saw another world beyond myself
And in my hour of weakness
You were there to see my courage fail
The years have been long
And you have taught me well
To sit and wait
In planning without acting
Steadily becoming what I hate
Because I know who you are now
I know who you are
I know who you are now
I have always known you
And you have always been there in my mind
But now I understand you
And I will not be part of your designs
Because I know who I am now
And all that you’ve made of me
And I know who you are now
And I name you my Enemy
And I know who I am now
And I know who I want to be
And I want to be more than
This devil inside of me.
(The song was inspired by "The Screwtape Letters" by C.S. Lewis)
also, it's "and I name you my enemy." not "and i hate you..."
I know it!!!!!!
@@fr.danieleusterman3060 why not just edit your first comment to put the correct lyrics in?
One of the most powerful songs I've ever encountered.
Absolutely love this song. I love the look of focus and passion on the percussionist's faces around the 4:32 mark
I really love the slow transition from chill to more and more hyped until at the end they just let loose, what a wild ride
This kind of creativity deserves so much more attention. The lyrics were beautifully written and the instrumentation was excellent. #realmusic
My first introduction to The Oh Hellos was March 19, 2017. I may regard this day as a High Holiday...
this music has been helping me fight depression for so long, it has almost a religious tone by now.
I love all your musics, but this one is a masterpiece, lyrics and instrumental are just perfect
Jesus loves you man
the oh hellos capture everything i love about music, raw energy in every sense of the word.

Is the song title a reference to the screw tape letters!? :D
Philip Hoy yep!!! They wrote the song as a tribute to it.
Most of the song is allusive to the book too.
Yeah the whole album is based on the screwtape letters.
Yep!!
The best thing about this whole video is the passion and love they pour into this song
