I appreciate how, though it seems Tyler is more naturally talkative or sociable, he makes sure to invite Maggie to speak, so it never seems like she hasn't contributed as much as he has to their music. He does it even more in newer interviews but he was already doing it here. It's good, because though Maggie isn't a shrinking violet (I think they actually said in their recent podcast interview that she was always the more rebellious sibling while he was the more people-pleasing one), she does tend to keep a little more out of the spotlight between songs or in interviews. He makes sure she gets her say anyway. I think it's all of a piece with the way I've seen him look after the band and the audience in a few videos, checking up on how everyone's doing. I don't know them personally, but they really seem to have an aspirational sibling relationship.
They're like an orchestra… like violin, 2 banjos, 2 drummers, accordion, bass, more guitars than I can count, capos in all frets and a choir of singers... I'd just expected that to sound muddy and and undefined but it's all really miked really good and sounds great. The exuberance and power of this group is... incredible!
I know I’m a few years late but I just wanted to say that this band is amazing. I cant even describe it, their music is magical. Love this band so much.
Wait till they tour again🤞 just freaking wait! The best band I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing live! One of the few bands that are actually better live! Blew me and the wife away we could hold back the tears they were so good.
This must be almost the best they've ever sounded! The fuller instrumentation and chorus in "Wishing Well" made me feel real awe, that violin gave "Hello My Old Heart" an incomparably uplifting air, the second female voice harmonizing with Maggie's adds so much, the DRUMS! Great recording too. I'm so grateful for the invention of headphones. I'm only 20 minutes into the video but already felt too moved not to comment.
0:00: I Was Wrong 5:00: Like the Dawn 10:23: Tyler and Maggie talk about how Irish folk music finds its way into their music 12:31: Wishing Well 16:33: the band talks about organisation and planning while on tour 18:11: Hello My Old Heart 22:27: the band describes which band member would play what role in an old west town 24:00: Dear Wormwood 29:13: Tyler talks about his favourite C.S Lewis book/story and explains why he and Maggie like to reference literature in their lyrics 31:44: Eat You Alive 33:17: Lay Me Down
absolutely incredible the full mountain of sound they produce. Also props to to audiotree crew for making every voice and instrument sound so so so good it is really unbelievable that a video can capture such a feeling
I know I'm late to the party but this band is so freaking good. They are not in the genre I usually listen to but their music is so amazing and I can't explain why. Every album and EP they have is so great. I'm constantly listening to them and when I'm not one of their songs is stuck in my head.
I love the overall atmosphere of this band and music, it's so deep and heartfelt! The music, lyrics and performance are a perfect match. And great interview, as well. 29:54 "The Great Divorce" is my favourite C.S. Lewis book - The Oh Hellos, PLEEEEASE make a theme album out of this!!
WOW. This is the best that Hello My Old Heart has ever sounded. I love the orchestration. It is just incredible. Please, please go on tour again! I would follow you on tour across the world!

Rosemerry, also check out Lisa Hannigan, Watchhouse, Iron and Wine, and anything with Sara Watkins for a compatible vibe.

Tyler's voice is so beautiful, especially in "Dear Wormwood".

29:54 "The Great Divorce" is my favourite C.S. Lewis book - The Oh Hellos, PLEEEEASE make a theme album out of this!!
There’s like 100 people in this band. Carry on.
This host catches C.S. Lewis references. Bring him back, Audiotree.
I super appreciate the bass player. That's some cool stuff he's got going there if you listen close.
Wesley Hershberger around the 9:00 mark he’s all over the place
WOW. This is the best that Hello My Old Heart has ever sounded. I love the orchestration. It is just incredible. Please, please go on tour again! I would follow you on tour across the world!
Bumped into them at a Tiny Desk concert. How did I not know about this band before now? They just kill it.
28:20 blows me away every time.
I hope they are creating something new for us while under quarantine.

Amazing craftsman!
And so much to watch. It just doesn't get old!
Prospecter, sheriff, villain....ha

i never fail to come back to this video. the way they layer all their instruments and vocals is truly something to behold
That's amazing! Them are my favorite band!! Thanks for this, Audiotree!
right from the start had me hit in the head- holy cow AMAZING
If their mom is as beautiful as Maggie, I'm not surprised the drunk Irishman wanted a drink with her... what a georgeous talented woman
oh myyyyyyy love them!
wish i was in that room too
the oh hellos live performances always blow me away but lay me down in particular made me feel like i was going to explode
I know this is old, but man, you guys still inspire me.
Beautiful! Love the big band jam
It would be amazing to have practice with a group of people this big!
Thanks for the smiles, I was having a really bad night. You came across my pandora.
Underrated af
From Argentina, genial..!!!
Best thing. Ever.
God is Good.
All the time
Maggie has one of the best voices I've ever heard.
17:29 Spin that old wheel round again?
Over and over again
after 4 years, still in love with amber
how bout 6 years?
@@see.ya.in.another.life.brother Same here. She's the prize...
I’m curious, is she still in the band? Also is she just a friend of someone in the band? Curious

irishacana...mad love!!!

15:23 SHEEEEEEESHHHH
that's music!
Holy shit it's a five string violin! I had no idea those existed.
They even have two drummers
the band is named "Oh Hellos" because sometimes they walk in the street and stumble upon band members they didn't remember
i just love them all
Complimenti
They have about as many band members as I'm From Barcelona.
Oh wow! Yeah, the Voyage of the Dawn Treadet is my favourite too. It technically doesn't have a proper plot but it's so cool.
Have you read the books?
@@anupam_821 Yeah. All of them.
@@avivastudios2311 nice. I'm planning to read silver chair again.
Bruh it's a whole orchestra lol
I haven't seen Amber before. Is she still in the band?
Nah not anymore but I do kinda miss her haha
Wouldn't mind buying this session but can't find where to do that on your website?
Why do I hear Scruggs banjo..? Their banjo player is strumming the dang thing.
2 Banjo players?
I was thinking the same thing until 1:57. There he is!
Yes...there are two banjo players....guy in red hat and the other is wearing a white tank top....can’t have enough banjo!
i think i just overdosed on hipster. dig the music though
same.
I love this band, but my friend and I had a fun time playing "Count the People Wearing Flannel Shirts"
Was the final count 1...
i don’t quite get it, they are so hipster and with Christian themes in the lyrics to boot, but i really dig them. not my type at all...but i love the new record.
none of you know what hipster means
Thee oh sees sounds a little different here, not sure what it is
It must depend on who shows up for the sessions on any given day.
Dat 'stache.
with love from ukraine
+
Hope you are well. Будьте осторожно. Слава Украине
why is dunkey the lead singer
hahaha I never saw that before
Why did you put the song titles at the end of the songs?
they put it on the beginning and the end
Two percussionists, and both are mixed in too loudly. It sadly taints this otherwise excellent session.
