Everyday should be stocktober! We were driving home for 10 hours from a trip to see family and we began talking about the current state of the world and our son said "1st I believe what you are saying because you pay attention and 2nd we are in good shape because of all the work you do. "
I like this kid - he pays attention! 👍🏻
Good kid😊
@@dep164 I totally agree! I try and do something every day, whether it’s canning, Fermenting, hanging fresh herbs to dry, pickling beets or freezing meats I see on sale. Or stocking a few sale items for other needs. Your Son is very observant, and he is learning from YOU! Congrats 👏🏼! Cheers!
I've been prepping since my retirement in 3/2020. Good timing, right? Since then I've taught myself how to can and dehydrate thanks to Leisa, Darcy, and many more. I can safely say that I have enough that I could survive, food wise, for a year. My new goal is to is to grinding my own wheatberries for bread to get off store bought bread. I made my 1st loaf last week. It wasn't perfect, but I know it will get better as time goes on. There's always something to learn on becoming self-reliant. You're never too old to learn.
Stocktober....spent all morning making jars of gravy mixes...and a few jars of instant potato soup...just add water. Husband was cutting and stacking wood...we are southwest FL, but it gets really cold for natives, and we use a lot of wood in the fireplace for heat.
You know what, God has a special place for you Leesa....you probably will never know what a gift your teaching talent is to so many..
I agree as a new prepper I am learning so much from Leisa. God Bless her
I agree Awesome teacher I've learned so much 😊
I'm donating some of my stash to Hurricane disaster relief, then doing a massive pantry rotation & restock ... thank you Super L!! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!!
Thank you for helping others.
It's been "Stocktober" at my house for years.
I hope and pray everyone listening to you is preparing for whatever may come our way in this crazy life.
Yes please help! Prepper Dad here with no help. Wife and 3 kids think I'm crazy but they'll be on me to feed them in event of an SHTF. Reaching out from the Los Angeles are. Have a bit of commercial canned protein and home canned as well.
@patriot1902 I completely understand how you feel. My husband thinks I'm crazy, even when he complimented me on my shopping and storage skills during the shortages in 2020. I was at the grocery store every day, standing in lines, with a boot on my foot. I never want to do that again. I was exhausted. My adult kids think I'm crazy also. So I'm prepping for 2/3 households. Just keep doing what you can to provide for your family.
Sometimes it takes something in their personal space to finally open their eyes so don't give up.
My youngest daughter (34) has now started gardening & canning.
My older daughter (48) has finally bought a freezer and is stockpiling it bcuz she is going in for major foot surgery and will not be able to drive for 8 weeks, and she's single. So she has to "prep" to have things before she becomes housebound. She knows thar I usually take care of her but I'm on crutches & need surgery too and only have one working arm, that I can't help her this time.Like I did when she got a new knee put in.
Same here! Husband doesn’t like me spending so much on stocking up. It’s annoying bc when I was in college it would keep us fed during summer and 2020. But memories are short!
@@Ristina81 I'm doing it anyway. If he doesn't like it, then he doesn't have to eat it 🤭
Don’t forget nonfood items too. Stash in multiple locations then it’s not as noticeable by family.
This is what our ancestors always did! In the spring and summer seasons, they produced enough food to stock up for the winter. It was the life style of our ancestors, but through centuries and especially the last 200 years since the industrial revolution and the 1960's we lost our life style of pantry preparedness. We must return to this life style, even thou if we will live in a better world and evil will never return, we must still stay vigilent.
Sooo….remember the videos where you see a meat sale and will travel? A grocery 45 minutes from me has pork roast for 99 cents a pound.
I just had a knee replacement but my mom and I went and bought 50 lbs of roast. It’s in the freezer until I can stand on my leg and can it!!! You have inspired me with all of your videos❤
Picked 41 pounds of honeycrisp apples yesterday - time to start canning!
Stocktober! 🍁🍂🥫🥫🥫Yay! This makes it so fun! My car broke down so Im broke and stuck for a few days. So working on canning and other projects. Also have some apples sitting around and starting Apple Cider Vinegar for the first time. ⭐️✨Thank you for all you do and keeping everyone encouraged!
Dock workers in Baltimore are on strike. Get what you need! I live alone but I always prep for me and mom.
Been canning since June , will be all October also. This old lady has been stocking back for 45 years, just the way I was raised ..with 24 grandchildren I've never quit..the mama's doesn't see the need ..I do more than ever!!
When I got furloughed to remote work in March of 2020 I started watching You Tube and discovered a whole world of prepping videos! Since then I have outgrown my kitchen cupboards and the first basement room I used. Now I have two rooms with lots of shelves and buckets. I have store bought, home canned, dehydrated, and much more. It has almost become an obsession, but a good one. My pantry will probably outlive me, I tell my kids it is their inheritance! I hadn't gardened or canned since my spouse died in 1994! It is fun to watch the bounty grow, and gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. #Stocktober
Hey Leisa ❤ 2020 TP panic buying has already started in NE Ohio 🙄🙄🙄🙄 I went to 3 local grocery stores today just to pick up a few things. Nothing big. Store number 1 had huge gaps on the TP and paper towel shelves. I bought zero. They had absolutely ZERO bread flour. Second grocery store only had 5 bags of bread flour. I purchased 2. The third store was an Aldi’s. I walked in and it looked like a tornado 🌪️ had been in the store. I turned around and walked back out. Come on people! Did 2020 not teach you anything 😑😵🤔🤯 WTF 😳 How quickly some people forget 2020 🤷🏼♀️ Prepare, but do not hoard so that others have nothing……
Yes stock up on what you can With the port strick coming. Roads torn up back east. And bad harvest.
Although I'm doing a "no buy" month since I have taxes to save for, I will be participating by doing some work to clear out my freezer by pressure canning my frozen ground beef and pork. I also will be making bone broth with my frozen veggie and chicken scraps. My frozen veggies will be dehydrated to use in my winter soups and stews. I also have yeast in the freezer ready to recruit for making homemade bread. My pantry is stacked to the rafters and will give me the freedom to save money during the next few months thanks to you, Leisa ❤️
I have a faily well stocked pantry but will be joining stocktober. I bought an electric pressure canner and just ordered 12 dozen new jars to fill. That's an additional 144 jars! I plan to can up the meat from the freezer so it will be shelf stable if/when the power goes out.
My best friend of 62 years hasn’t been doing much to prepare . She moved to Indiana and I’m in Ga. I think what I’m going to do is not open my #10 can but order from Thrive life and send her what I can . We’ve been through husband passing parents passing you name it I introduced her to her husband of 51 yrs. I can’t not do something we’re both on SS. I love the idea of stocktober.I think it will be an encouragement to us all.❤️
❤
@mpat23 meet halfway and find a home to share together. Can't get more "best friends" and support system than that.
You'll have each other! ❤
Went through everything and only two cans were a few months past their best buy date which I turned into a dish this evening.
Yesterday did the poatao flakes. Today did the spinach and artichoke hearts and also did crushed pineapples and pears. Gravies too.
I bought what I could yesterday. Glad i bought soap last month. Castile soap can wash clothes, brush teeth, bathing and washing dishes. Im a list maker. Pantry is tiny but im organizing it to be sure my family has enough. My in laws keep asking me for tips to stock up
Pass along your knowledge, you are doing it right.
A small pantry is better than no pantry. And you'll be surprised just how much you really have when you can't get more.
I love to make my own castile, plus lemon to smell & rosemary for germ fighting-a push foaming soap. Nice to read it does more.
When you say, “be safe, and stack it to the rafters” there’s an excitement and I feeling of community in me, as well as a feeling of something coming but knowing I’m doing my best to prepare and it’ll be okay. Thank you, sincerely, for being our fearless leader. I listen every day as I do ‘one thing’ to prepare. 🌻
Leisa, I love this!! As someone who moved a year ago from SE Louisiana (weather related, I could no longer cope), I am watching Helene’s damage with grief and horror. Such a timely reminder to us all to focus on self sufficiency in order to withstand weather, strikes, etc. I’m focused on building a buffer with everything this month…even if I don’t get there completely, I’m making progress. Thanks to your friend and to you for the idea. #stocktober
It has been 5 days with no power. From the hurricane. Everyone has had to throw out so much food. Now the shoreline on East coast has strikes . Our stores are all closed they are having to throw out all perishable food items. By the time we might get through this I don’t know how much stocking up we can do. It’s awful here in SC. But will enjoy watching you.
Love it! I don’t know how to do videos, but will enthusiastically watch the #Stocktober channels and cheer from the sidelines and leave comments. Yeah team! 🎉😀💕👍🙏🏼👋👏🏼🇺🇸🌸
Fabulous! Great idea! Thanks Leisa again about the knife suggestion, a bushel carrots = 51 pints, and no sore shoulder chopping them with a sharp effective knife! I have to inventory this month.😊
I need to can carrots as well! I only have three jars left from last year!
The shipping strike is going to affect more people than you think. If you have not built a pantry filled with essentials, the time is now! It can be done on a budget, start with what you normally eat, and buy extra when on sale. Learn prices and watch for deals.
In TN / NC our poor community’s. Definitely pays to stock up! Solar lights and glow sticks is a must !! Saved us during no electricity for days!!
Well, the dock workers went on strike and thanks to you, I'm good! Keep up the good work!
Good to hear
I am in, Leisa! Have peaches & pears to can, apples to make applesauce…to start. Thank you for your encouragement! 😊
Love, love, love this!!!❤❤
First reaction was “WOW this is going to be fun!!”
Part of preparedness is financial. Hopefully you have been paying down as much of your debt as you can over the past 3 years and 9 months, and if possible, create an emergency fund (maybe in a mylar bag in your pantry, but you know what works for you) in case for some reason you cant access your bank account for a month. No matter how little funds you have, if you bite the bullet, you can always save something. #stocktober.
East coast long shore man no contract. Inside scoop is we're screwed. Out all day couponing, stores are wait lines, remind ya off back in day!!. Now I'm contending with people just spending to get. Shelves are clearing up here in maine. Ugggggggg. Back out tomm. To fill in a few spots. Azure haul came in last night. ❤ oooooo we got limits showing up. Might need to get kids out there. Lol ❤
I honestly believe that we have to keep stocking no matter how much we already have.i thought I was doing well, but my better judgment says more, more, more.
I have run out of room for storage.
Im from Sweden but everyday I watch your vlog and look what I need to prep more..m
Thanks, Leisa! Good luck everyone with #Stocktober.
Gonna keep doing
stocktober folllwed by knock it out November!! Gonna knock out all I can , process thru November too!! It never stops!!!👍
Yay!! So looking forward to this! Thank you Friend🤗
Going to start up with canning potatoes!
I NEED TO ORGANIZE!!!🥹
Hi Leisa! I love Stocktober, though I spent September stocking for the winter months, cleaning through the pantry and storage buckets and canning like crazy, lol! I did just finish canning ketchup, I will use that video 🥰 Thank you Leisa for being so amazing!
After a long lifetime (literally) of stocking/storing/ skill set expansion this is a challenge that I will do, but is not a priority. In solidarity with the idea there is always something more that can be done I am going to do a Ought-ober: each day I will choose 1 item I tend to put off which I know "ought" to be done more promptly. There are a ton of adjacent things which get pushed to the side during times in where they are not the priority. Thanks for guiding folks to be their most productive selves both in and out of the kitchen.
Canning ugly chicken tomorrow. (You can never have too much ugly chicken)Also, finishing up canning apple pie filling and applesauce.
Got my thrive set up for October, love the deals this month. I'm having to start over on my Pantry
Great idea! Make it fun! I gain new ideas from others when I get overhelmed and brain dead and this is helpful to all! I heard Hillary Clinto came out and mentioned a possible Black Swan event for October surprise, so we all need to be on our toes with getting as much stocked and stacked as we can. I just say buckle up and hold on. Bless you for doing this! Stay safe everyone!
So ready and looking forward to this challenge…
We may be looking at a rough winter here in Michigan. Our oak trees have filled our yard with an enormous amount of acorns. A past sign of a very snowy winter. Stock up before Winter arrives 💜
I'm on chapter 3 of your book. Love it. At this point, I'm considering drinking wine while preparing
LOL
Don’t forget to stock up on wine either! 😅
@@tammyr2966 🤣🤣
I always do stocktober because I lived thru the Loma Prieta earthquake (Oct. 17) and also the major fires in the hills. (Oct. 19-20). so it always reminds me to check over supplies, replace what is needed, fill in any gaps, etc.
Margaret Holmes brand has canned kale 😉
Happy Stocktober!
This sounds like fun. I organized my small kitchen pantry today. I can’t believe I had so much room. The freezers are next. I’m taking stock to see what I need to stock up on in Stocktober.
Same here… no basement, root cellar or walk in pantry but I have learned how to stockpile and no one would even know if they came into my house.
I’m in!!!!🎉😊
Just hit our local case goods sale to add to my pantry! Starting stocktober off right!!
I’m in NC and when our power went out up in our cabin I brot everything out of the freezer and made vegetable soup. Can I can it even though is not a recipe from the blue book? if so, how should I do it? I am a baby canner, I started with water bath and I just got a pressure canner, trying to get to follow all your great advice and trying to g to get ready for crazy times, such as these. Any advice is great appreciated. I loved your video last night. The people of of North Carolina are hurting but the communities are coming together and helping neighbors. ❤
You should be able to pressure can the soup. Just double check the ingredients and Google if you can can them.
"BRILLIANT" 💟
I am still trying to learn more. I now make my own beef gravy mix, chicken gravy mix, taco seasoning and spaghetti seasoning mix. And those mixes are saved in repurposed jars, that originally had picante sauce in them. lol I actually think they taste better than the store bought ones. I had bought bottom roast on sale a week ago and sliced them into steaks, and vacuumed sealed them for the freezer. I just bought chuck roast today and will be cutting them up for stew meat or chili meat. I am finding it's a lot cheaper if I buy the roast on sale and cut them up myself. I love shopping for bargains on food that we will eat.
Love the idea of meal planning. Thanks 😊
I'm so excited about this Leisa. Ty. I can't wait.
Yep, I’m sending this to friends and family.
Just got another shelf unit to stocktober my pantry.
Great job! I got two last month to expand my pantry. It was like Christmas for me 😂
Fun!!! Cannuary is so far away. I’m excited for this ☺
Finally worked through all our apples today. Whew!
# STOCKTOBER#. Have a box of Azure Standard onions so I diced up some and filled a gallon baggie and sliced a gallon size bag full and put them in the freezer. I added the onion skins, carrots, celery and a bunch of herbs to the very large stock pot and made 20 pints of vegetable broth to put on the pantry shelf. I also made a few half pints of caramelized onions. Waiting for chicken sales and will add more ugly chicken to the shelves. Dreading the thought of what this Port Strike will look like. Thank you for all you do to inspire us.
🎉 I'm in!!! Thanks! I needed the motivation. 😊
Can't wait to see all of the ideas that will be coming
The whole world is wonky right now.
I’m in for stocktober!
Thanks for always being here!♥️
Great idea. I will probably finish processing whole tomatoes in freezer to salsa, make strawberry preserves from strawberries in my freezer, look for fresh cranberries and can them for juice and do some weakly BOGOs.
Excited to see everyone’s videos. I’m in, too. Sounds great!
May have got another on board.
I'm filling holes and getting older stuff out. Replacing what I use. A few snacks for morale while it's still there. Variety is less now while trend was to keep adding. I always do wood in spring. Always that lull when the garden is just starting. Deer and wabbit destruction so had to buy what was destroyed. Got more livetraps, netting and mesh to relocate or deter animals from the all you can eat snackbar. 60 tomato plants gone overnight. Bought cases of tomato products to make up for the loss. Prepped for now and planning for next year too. Praying for 4 more years to be rid of debt. Car and equity loan on a fixer upper.
I’m ready for a video NOW!!!
Great idea!
Great idea !
I started today,
14 quarts of spaghetti sauce today, and mushrooms tomorrow.
This is all because of you, Leisa, and your friends from canuary🎉🎉🎉 thank you.
Maybe something for those of us that have stock, how to keep track?
Can't wait, we all need it right now!!
Oh! This is awesome! I'm in!!! I've been assessing gaps, so will be doing this anyways - I love that your challenge will help motivate me to get it going!!! 😊🙌💗
I hope you’re including the freezer as part of the pantry.
Stocktober!!! I love it!!!
I've been trying to focus on cleaning out my 2 freezers & get ready for hunting season. Last week I canned 16 pints of ground turkey, next step is to make bluebery pie filling & jam. Just bought some more canned veggies & fruits to add to the shelf before prices go up more.
#stocktober YAY
I went to check out the hashtag and it was manly about what "stocks" to invest in. Also from years ago. Maybe once everyone starts posting we won't have to weed out that other stuff.
It literally just started today, let us catch up 😂😂
Love #Stocktober Will do it! Always awesome Lyssa.
Arg! Still spelled your name wrong - sorry.
@@HouseholdEconomics Leisa. Tell your spell check it's OK by tapping the big checkmark.
@@denisewilson8367 Thank you 😊
Late seeing your video. Thanks for sharing. We stock monthly year round..,from the Ozarks drinking fresh spring water
Excited for tips on stocking! I have quite a bit on my shelves now (thank you Leisa!) but could certainly use some more tips!
I am so ready for this!
Remember to check your home preservation every month. I just did my inventory and found 3 jars of pea and ham soup where the seals had failed in the store cupboard. I also found a regular size jar lid which had got into another jar of seasoned mince - how I do not know but by checking the preps I got it before anyone could eat the food. I physically check every jar. Edit: I should also add that in the 8 years of food preservation that is the first time I have had seal fails in the cupboard.
Were your seals Kerr or Ball? Stop using them and purchase "FORJARS" seals. I have kept the others for WHAT I'm not sure.
@@betterose9167 They were Tattler. I am in the UK. Metal lids are tooooo expensive so I have been using Tattler for quite a few years. Yes I get one or two failures but once in the cupboard I have never had a failure until now. Every single other jar is fine.
I’m in for Stocktober!
Love this!! I just saw the photo and was like awesome!!!
I love this idea. Thank you for doing it .
Hi Leisa 👋🏻
Fabulous idea, Darcy!
#PUMPKINS. Store in a dark, cool/cold, (but not freezing), dry place and have fresh pumpkin until March. Just monitor weekly and use the ones starting to go first. Soups, stews, curries, pies, etc.🎃
Pumpkin pancakes is a fun way to celebrate Halloween 🎃
Stocktober clever idea.
Finished pears and peaches. Have 25 lbs if onions in the roaster for caramelizing. Carrots tomorrow.
I’m on board! Great idea! 👍🏻
I'M IN. TEXAS READY TO STACK 'EM HIGH! 🤠🐮🐎🌽🐔
This is a great idea! Love it! This will be so much fun!!!!!! Thank you so much for starting this!
Thanks leisa!😊
Perfect month to do this!
