Hi , You should be super proud of yourself young Lady for doing that convo. Im an 48 year old Crane Operator and as a trained mechanic i would be pulling my hair out just with the electrics SO WELL DONE YOU and thanks for showing IT CAN BE DONE [now where,s my saw] lol SCOOBS UK.
she looks gud ......her van is cozy & specious .......... but appreciate her constant battle against that extreme temperature........... best wishes for ur ease & lots of comforts in days coming
Really impressed by all of this, my 28 year old daughter is going to try the van life after finally deciding to end her relationship with “super arsehole March (the 6th) 2015 to January 2020” she has to be out of her apartment by the end of April & wants to travel Europe in her Newly acquired van which she purchased just a few weeks ago. Watching TH-cam & channels like this has inspired her to give it a go. I tried something similar in my “A” reg Fiat Panda from May to late September 1989 touring north west Scotland. I found a lovely little hideaway on the Isle of Skye near Broadford & the shops (shop) an air bed, sleeping bag & camping stove was pretty much all I needed & a tiny AM/FM/SW radio, I spent over month there, I just loved it all, helped by being surrounded by lovely friendly locals. Even thinking about it makes me happy. Live free, be happy, where there is a will there’s a way. Of course I’m worried about my girl being out there on her own, but she’s got brains & is street wise & there’s an awful lot of really nice, decent, like minded people out there & you can find countless reasons not to do something. Get out there & do it, give it a go. Take a month or so off from just being a consumer & tax payer.
What a great job Carly has done with her van. I'm sure I could never do the electrical, even with a guide, lol. I think Carly is smart to live in her van, travel, work less, etc. So much less stress for her. Happy Travels Carly!
Great job . Enjoy watching van videos as I have a MB sprinter I converted back in 2004.There was not as many camper conversion videos at that time and it was up to me to research all the components .These videos help the people doing it more than you can imagine.Thank's to you Nate.
Wow, for someone with no experience she certainly carved out a little Fairy cottage for herself. She looks so happy and proud. Great job. Also that is a million dollar view!
I'm glad it see someone who has insulated with foam on the floor. I didn't know if this was practical. I've seen so many conversions insulated for fair weather. I want to be comfortable and watch the snow fall as well as all seasons.
Awesome. I spent a month in our camper over August 2018 with the view of spending more time in him. It was so liberating having all that you need, and surprising how little that was. It sure was a simple life and we loved it, much more work to do on the van to become more off-grid capable. Loving your videos. You're never to old - Darren 48 ;-)
4th winter now, coldest was -20F with no heater and it was indeed chilly but still doable. With that said, winter's already here but I am planning to install a heater before it's over. Frozen water isn't very useful ;) Great job building yours Carly!
Gayle Crabtree if you are a woman you might think that, looks jury rigged to me. After a day of not working but having an adventure, I would come home and stare at the goofy conversion mistakes while I shit in a bucket.
Really? I'll give you about the under bed storage. Everything else looks nice to me, but my training on this is nill. I'm happy with my van build, but it's the first big project my husband and I have ever tackled (and it shows). Hers looks nice by comparison. I'm still looking/learning though.
Gayle Crabtree This is some woman thing where professional means "not crap and I want to push womens rights" or something like that right? Cause you can't mean that you for real can't spot the difference?
Gayle Crabtree its not man vs. woman its amateur vs. professional. Sorry, i have got to go dump the grey water, check the batteries and uncomfortably sit on a bench until bedtime, then sleep on it. Morning ill wake up all damp and cramped, find which compartment has breakfast items and begin another day of not admitting this is silly.
For your shelf that tips over while on the move, use a bunjee cord or ratchet strap to keep it up. That way its temporary and easy to put on and take off. Great van looks good! Wish I was a couple inches shorter; I'd have built one of these instead. Went with an ex ambulance with a raised roof, just converting it to 4x4 now 😆
I like how your van has turned out, but more better... I like that you don't take any of it too seriously. Its a means to do what you enjoy. Also, I really like your taste in bedding pattern! :) very homey!
Mom died early in my life My father stricken with heart attacks By 17 he also passed away I was left with his 80's camper van as i was already working part time as a helper for spray foaming sites like buildings and homes My boss wanted to do my van as a gift knowing i was living out of it for site to site work 4 months later I seen -51C / -59.8F over 2 days I parked beside a gas station that had a electrical outlet and plugged in my oil heater for the engine block (keep from freezing no starts) and my electric heater that hung off the roof about a foot Ran the wire in the window and had to cover the gap with a towel....I slept perfectly with a thick blanket under me and a light blanket over me The next month i had my uncle sign for me a Apartment for me as i was "Too young" to sign myself ..I still to this day drive a truck and have a cord and heater in it just in case
Not to be a jerk, but your numbers don't make sense. Fahrenheit would not have a greater number than Celsius. Celsius reads freezing at 0, Fahrenheit at 32. To be in temperatures of -59.8 F you'd have to be parked in the middle of Antarctica or maybe some places in Siberia. There are very few places in the world that see such temperatures. It may have felt that cold, but had it actually been that cold you would have died in a van. There is no insulation that could have saved you. There's no way to heat a van in those temperatures sufficiently to save you. Having said that, I am sorry for your loss and hardships.
You could get one of those tiny woodstoves for winter heat. 3 inch wide chimney goes up through the roof. People living in sailboats, sprinters, skoolies, and vans use them. And, they don't ski. Also two roof fans for cooling. One blows air out above the stove. One pulls air in over the bed. Like a big bed fan over your head. They don't pull that much.
i think Kaya was suggesting to stick some magnets onto the wood and curtains.... BUT if you wanted to do it to glass, some aquarium glass cleaner magnets would help you attach it to the glass
Pretty cool van, seems like a fun project to do. I've been to Chamonix before. It's an amazing place and the views from Mont Blanc are awesome as well.
Absolutely love the look of this van more than any other. Looks so homely! But considering how much head's pace you have when sat on your bed you could've raised the bed another 1-2ft for extra storage.
Great Conversion! I am also living in a van in the Alps. A Ford Transit Custom low top small wheel base...kinda cozy! Going to check out the manual for next conversion...
Bravo for her. Very nice build. think I prefer the walls she did over the slats of wood. Likely less weight too. Practical. In ways she reminds me of Emma Stone. The layout is good. I would have some L brackets on the thing near the bed so it wouldn't topple anymore to be more secure.
yeah. i looked it up too and in warroad mn the avg january low is -8. january of 2018 (this year, not some cherry picked year) had lows of -29,-26,-27,,-22,-29,-26. Also, days in december 2017 of -24,-24,-29, -20,-27,-29 It also had other days in the negative teens. so -15 is not really as bad as it gets in the state of minnesota. Minnesota isn't a small place though. minneapolis will generally get down to around -15 every year. it's not one day spikes that suck though. You can treat a one day or few days of extremely low temps as a novelty . it's when it's below zero for weeks on end that it sucks.
I see your power source looks to be right below your pillow on your bed, and I wanted to caution you about EMF that your power source may be putting out. Electromagnetic Fields cause cancer, and you should consider positioning your head away from your power source. You may use a portable radio to check for a EMF by tuning the radio to between channels where all you hear is static (from natural radiation), then move the radio closer to your power source and listen for the static to get louder. The more static you get, the greater your electromagnetic field. Note: Do this with your electrical devises running. The fix for this is to move your pillow (and your head) to the other end of your bed away from any power sources. Also, do not park under high tension power lines. Cheers.
Well my old camper came with insular foil and plastic cutouts that fit the windows held themselves in place by friction because they weigh nothing. They kept cold and light out. Anyway where all the thumbs down come from is beyond me.

Hi Nate, nice video. Carly you have done a great job on the conversion but there is a reason why car manufacturers keep batteries out of cabins and it’s so occupants don’t inhale the fumes. If they cannot be moved to the outside you can box them up and vent the fumes out just to be safe😀
Uh...I would have considered adding sub floor heating pads like in under bath room tiles. Pack External generator. -40C same as -40 F. Stay warm. Nice build. Smart young lady. 👍😀🍺

Or if you are close by and need help with anything give me a yell. Im in Byron start of February if you need a car park. Love your work .👍
Awesome lady. She's super likable and sweet. Plus, she skis!! My kind of girl for sure. And so what if her feet are so long she doesn't need skis, she's cute. Haters gonna hate, I guess. They're just jealous.
Thanks Nate!! Building my first out here in SoCal, southern California for those out of my loop. Great video and I need the help with my electric set up so you will be hearing from me or my wife Rosalynn, she does everything that takes a mind. I am a wood builder. Thanks
Please can you make sure you invest in a Fire Blanket and extinguisher as you are cooking in it. Might save your van if you have a flare up whilst cooking , Just a thought!
for a grand i could do 2 interiors with night heaters...seriously..i would obviously use free recycled stuff like a welsh dresser for a kitchen and 2 bench seats to make a bed, some led lights, and a stove..nothing complicated..minibuses are my favourite to convert.
Hi, to secure the shelves, stop using bangee cord and use metal strips, because they do not move. When you are travelling, get from your supermarket some strong paper baskets and put them as doors befor the shelves while travelling and securing them with a string or metal strip.
Cool You seem to be living in the USA, right? I am living in Germany. Please be informed that muslims currently are not going to destroy this country. You are ill-informed by either right-wing, white supremacist or whatever media, or by reading stupid stuff from clueless people in so called social media. Yes, refugees from war zones have come here and were received generally friendly. Many of them are good, average persons or families who now do their best to learn the language (not easy) and to get a job. Which they do as soon as they have made enough progress with the language. I know some of them quite well. Some are traumatized by the horrible things they have experienced. For them it is difficult of course on top f that to adjust to a completely new life and society. I also know small and medium business owners who happily employ able refugees because there is a long-term shortage of people in crafts trades here. You should not thoughtlessly parrot xenophobic slogans.
🤙🏼That window I would of just cut out insulation foam with a gasket attach a handle block☀️ keep warm in ❄️ The power split system⚡️ Awesome. Also she says homely which means totally different thing in US it’s Homey I think she means. Which also means something different in US 😁 It’s a great little fart box especially for the price. Not surprised she can get guys to do free labor for her along with a heck of a deal on the rig👏🏼 sweet ride!
Really enjoyed watching i have the same van but mwb just finished my conversion, these vans really do lend them selves to being excellent places to live- chill in,
Thanks for watching!

freakyflow I’ve often wondered how easy it would be to spray foam the inside of a van, seems like the best way to deal with cold weather.
freakyflow I’m sorry for your loss. They’re in a better place im sure.
where do you live? thats really cold

Suggest installing a few surface D-rings on each side of your cabinet, then use a small ratchet strap to secure when on the move!

Yes, more and more people are going to wood stoves like the Cubic Cub. Dry heat and don't use any electricity for a blower.
she should use magnets to hold the blinds up on the window, so it's nice and snug
i think Kaya was suggesting to stick some magnets onto the wood and curtains.... BUT if you wanted to do it to glass, some aquarium glass cleaner magnets would help you attach it to the glass
And get some insulation for the window, too. That's a huge thermal gap.
Well done.im so in love when I see girls build campervan and camping. You are amazing,
Fantastic home on wheels, woman is really independent and motivated. Love it!

Pretty cool van, seems like a fun project to do. I've been to Chamonix before. It's an amazing place and the views from Mont Blanc are awesome as well.
I wish someone would make a charity called _Van Life For Humanity_ similar to _Habitat For Humanity_ .
We have a film soon for a charity that is making vans for temporary homeless accommodation.
Bob Wells does that, it's called HOA, I think, and is one of the two channels he has up.

-20°C "extreme"
*laughs in finnish*
Aaro Anttila exactly what I was thinking in Minnesota we get to -50 f

Extreme if your in a van.

Nothing but admiration well done
wow... one of the better van conversions.
Good project and really stealth. I reckon the next thing to go will be the cacti when they stab your hand or fall into the bed.
Not surprised she can get guys to do free labor for her along with a heck of a deal on the rig👏🏼 sweet ride!
noone is going to comment on how naturally beautiful she is, she looks better than most girls with a face full of makeup
You did a great job! It looks cozy.
Lovely woman living my dream! As soon as my children move out then this is going to happen 😉😉😉😉😉
I homeschool my son with my husband and we lived in RV and traveled around for a bit it was amazing you may not have to wait to live your dream.
Good on yer, wish more ladies out there had the get up and go like you do..
Thank god I moved to san diego this week
Such a wonderful build! Thanks for sharing 🤙
Really enjoyed watching i have the same van but mwb just finished my conversion, these vans really do lend them selves to being excellent places to live- chill in,
Magnets sowed into hem of a blind curtain and magnets around window frame .. = dark inside van 🤭😉
Very Very nice! Love your colors you should be proud of yourself! Good Job.
Nice van, and a nice tour. She had some interesting ideas I haven't seen before. I've bookmarked the conversion book site.
