My mother used to sing this to me, but now, I have a younger sibling who she favors, and she sings it to him instead. She barely sings to me anymore, I guess she just things because I’m older, I don’t want her to. But deep down, I do. On days when I cry my eyes out, she still does comfort me, but never bothers to sing. I wish she would. She has the most beautiful voice, and I love it. He was born 5 years ago, and now it’s 2020, and my grandmother just died. My mother said that she used to sing it to her, and she sung it to me. We sat together and cried silently at her funeral, and I understood. She didn’t favor him, he was just little. That night, I was having trouble sleeping, and she came in my room, and sung to me once again. The same song, and the same words. I love you mom, and I love you Grandma. My grandmother died of a heart attack. She’d sing this to me and I always found it embarrassing. One day, I was only eight years old, I went to the restroom and I decided to check in on my grandmother. She had many health issues and would often fall off her bed and as long as she had a chair to hold she could get up. This time was different. After doing everything my kid brain thought of, I finally got my grandfather. A bit of story on why I didn’t get him in the first place: My grandmother, like I said, had many huge health issues. She would slack off when I was with her so she could spend time with me, so whenever I was there, she would get scolded by my grandfather for not taking care of herself. Sidenote: it falsely taught her that if someone is upset, it’s her fault. I would be having a bad day and not want to do anything with anyone, I would sit in my room and watch TH-cam all day, and I would hear her be very sad about it. I wish I could go back to do more stuff with her. Back to what I was saying, so I finally got my grandfather and he called 911. About 30 minutes later he calls me into his room.. he told me she had died on the ambulance. 5 minutes after she got on. Because of the cops.. I never got to tell her I loved her. At first I laughed because I thought he was lying, and when he didn’t laugh.. I realized she was really gone. Now, I sing this song to everyone I love.
Edit: Me, my mother, and grandfather all went to a Mexican Restaurant (one of her favorite diners) to talk and mourn her. We were having a good time and the next day at my school, my teacher said she saw me at the restaurant and said that we looked like we were celebrating something and wanted to hear what happened. I looked her dead in the eyes and told her that my grandmother died. I excused myself to the bathroom and cried.

My mother used to sing this to me every night. Every time I hear it I tear up. If I listen to it at night I basically sob quietly. I let all my feelings out into a pillow as I sing along to the song try to calm myself down. Eventually I calm down and tell myself it’s ok. I fall asleep thinking of how happy I am to have my mother.

My grandma used to play this for me on the guitar, and we would sing together. She's much older now, and she can't play as well as we used to. This song reminded me of my aunt giving me a music box that was playing you are my sunshine on it. So when I found this song it reminded me of her. I haven’t seen her in three years and now I’m finally seeing her again today so when I heard this song I started crying because it reminded me of her and how much she loves me and cares for me, I can’t wait to see her again.
I remember I had a dream once with the song in it (non music box Verizon). I woke up in a lobby. Turns out I was at an old people's home (a nursing home). It was the nursing home where my great grandmother died in 2017. People were there, all talking and walking from hallway to hallway. I walked down a hallway leading to a room at the end of it. I heard a music box playing inside of the room which sounded very familiar. I pushed open the door quietly to find myself in a bedroom. There she was, Nana Teapot led in her bed with a greeting smile on her face. She said my name softly and said "I've missed you so much my baby!" I couldn't help but cry. She told me to come give her a cuddle and to dry my eyes. So I did. She said she'd seen me as a baby and told me how beautiful I was and how beautiful I look now. She'd said she saw me at my club, at school and with family and friends. She smiled at me and started to sing this song. As the first verse ended, she looked at me, smiled and said she loves me. She softly said "I'll be there always and I'll see you soon." The dream ended and I woke up. I looked out of the window and said "I love you Nana Teapot." Rest in peace my flower. I love you. I didn't actually go in the nursing home so I have no Idea of how it looked. I only went to the outside of it to drop my mother off so she could visit her. Rest well Nana. I love you so much my flower❤️

My son was born 11.11.16, he was seriously ill with a strep b infection at birth and spent 10 days in an incubator before he was allowed into a crib, after 14 days he could finally come home, I used to hum this tune to him on the rare moments he was allowed out of the incubator for a cuddle 😊
He became a little warrior, fighting off strep b, 2 epileptic seizures and an anaphylaxis reaction, forever thankfully to the neonatal team at North tees hospital god bless you 🙏 💙
