- In this video, I show how to do the "Quarter Squirrel call." This is probably one of the easiest and most productive Squirrel Calls I have found to use while hunting. It is a cheap and easy DIY way to find squirrels in the woods.
All you need is two quarters or 50 cent pieces and get weird with tapping them together. You are trying to mimic the sounds of a Squirrel cutting a nut or eating an acorn. It is really effective if you can master the sounds.
My Marlin 60 and Remington 870 has ended many Squirrels with two quarters and tapping them together.

I live in a wooded area right near a river, so the squirrels are always around, but that tapping quarters is a great sound mimic. My coin taps brings all the squirrels to the yard.

This works great. A squirrel got into my basement [I left the door open to air out the basement.] I went into the basement and tried to lure out the squirrel using your coins. Now, I have two squirrels in the basement.

Amen. When I've gone bowhunting I've had squirrels come within 5 feet of me. When I went back to the truck to get the .22 for the squirrels, they were nowhere to be seen but the deer started coming out. The irony of the woods I suppose.

So, I went out early in the morning before the squirrels were up for the day and I got four squirrels to get out of bed and come see who was hogging all the nuts! I didn't have two quarters handy this far out from payday, so I tried using two scrabble pieces, and it worked! Rubbing the corner of one across the indentations of the other was a great sound effect, too. Those squirrels were yawning and stretching and still trying to wake up.

It does work. I learned it from my grampa when he took me squirell hunting as a kid. 35 years later they still havent figured out its not a squirrel lol.

35 seems pretty old for a squirrel.
I've found that putting bird feed in the feeder is the most sure fire way of attracting squirrels.
Jus' Nuts we do it here down far south... it’s... effective...
I've tried to eat squirrels that hit bird feeders (after I plugged 'em with the pellet rifle). They just don't taste good! Deep woods squirrels taste much better. To get 'em out of the bird feeder, I use my son's Red Ryder BB gun. Too weak to penetrate their tough hide, but strong enough to burn their little thievin' asses!! But, they'll be back in a day or two. Reload, repeat!
They get so pissed when you shoot them off the feeder with a red Ryder. Sure I have guns that would kill them but it's a non-lethal and super fun way to get them to leave your feeders alone for a day or two.
The ones who have experienced the ass burning tend to duck the shots afterwards. Aim just a little low, and BURN their little thievin' asses again! They can run, but they can't resist the temptation.

THANKS for this video!!! This past Saturday, I saw a squirrel race up a tree I was approaching and went to the far side about 10-15 yards up. I stood still for a few solid minutes but no show...until I tapped my quarters. "Immediately" that squirrel came right out and around to a branch and sat there as calm as could be. Now it's in the freezer! Thanks for the tip! I never thought to "call" them and as a "newer" squirrel hunter, I didn't know "calling" them was even a thing. I've got a lot to learn I suppose. I'll keep 2 quarters in my hunting pack from now on for sure! What a precious memory that is now!

My grandfather showed me this trick back when 50 cents would buy a 50 round box of ammo for my 22 rifle and the guy at the hardware store would sell that ammo to an eight year old .

This worked surprisingly well, super rainy today and had only seen one other squirrel. Within probably 6 minute's of doing this one showed up

This is the BEST squirrel call I have ever seen and ever heard of. Once you practice for awhile it truly sounds like a squirrel. Those things me brother buys sounds more like a squeak toy that one might hear in dog toys, etc., etc., etc. Thanks, Yak.

Brings back memories! I'm 36 and my Pa showed me these variations of calls when I was around 7 or 8 years old. Works great here in south eastern Kentucky!

Saw this video by accident. My papaw showed me this calling technique as a kid. It works great!
I actually tried this and it does work. It drives Squirrels crazy and they let their guard down and come out in the open allowing for a clear shot. You just gotta wait and have patience and they'll show up one by one.

I guess that I'm making a SERIOUS comment. This method TRULY works! I learned this technique from another TH-cam video. This is the BEST way to attract squirrels. I concur with you that they will not come to you but they will give up their positions to locate the source of the sound. I admit that on few occasions that they will (if they are on the ground) will travel towards the sound. In my opinion, forget about the rest this is truly the best way to call squirrels! It only takes two quarters and a little practice. Happy Hunting.

Also, a kissing, smooching sound made by sucking air through tightly puckered lips makes the sound of a distressed baby squirrel, and that drives squirrels crazy! They get pissed and start barking....bang!...smile.😂

Dec 25, 2017 So happy I have permission to say Merry Christmas. Walked out into the woods and called using your method. I was happy to call in two deer. They came in on me about 8 yards looking for the sound. I guess they know this sound as well.

I have a true story about a quarter and a squirrel. Many many years ago when I was way younger, my family and I went camping at Fish Eating Creek in Florida. My mom sent my sisters and I to the camp store to get eggs or something.
Well my sister saw some squirrels and decided to feed them the money my mom gave us buy what we needed. We went back to our camp and had to ask for more money, when my mom asked what happened to the money she gave us she didn’t believe us...it has been a life long joke in our family if we need change or money find the squirrel! 😆

Been doing something similar for about 25 years now, I cup one quarter in the palm of my hand and tapped it with the other. Had to watch to see your technique. Nice video.

I'm too poor to try this now that Canada has stopped the penny. I tried rubbing maple leaves together without luck. Then I tried chewing on a live 22lr round and that worked... Plus it's hands free

Squirrel Calling
This is how:
First, wear camo, get into Oak woods, nut trees, etc. where there are signs of squirrels: (broken nuts/acorns on logs/the base of trees.
Sitting: {best to use a face mask here}
Imitate a squirrel feeding on a nut:
Just take a 4" fine threaded bolt, a guitar pick, or some stiff piece of plastic & run it on the threads of the bolt quickly, zip, zip, zip, {3 short zips} done multiple times, while actually sitting still for squirrels tucked in, up against a tree or on a log in the shadows,scanning/watching intently.
{no results, try the Mr. B's call, see still hunting }
How to make a bark & then wheeze sound :
{this is a call squirrels use to alert other squirrels, of danger mostly} {sometimes starts a frenzy.}
Now, make a loose fist, { very slight hollow in palm area} pull the hole in your fist right up against your mouth. Now, make a kissing sound with your lips. 1 single bark/kiss, then a quick series of about 12 barks crescendoing, then slowing, then immediately ONE hard long kiss blowing through just your index finger & thumb(open fist)that's the wheeze at the end. Now you're barking & wheezing like a squirrel.{ learn the different tones you can make by cupping your other hand over the back of that fist by opening & closing that cupped hand } Those are the most effective ways to call squirrels using the Bark /wheeze.
Still hunting : (if you really know how): {if you can use a face mask here without obstructing sight use it. I usually do. You don't have to.
After scanning the tree tops/area well & quietly & you don't see or hear anything use a "Mr. B's distress call" {sounds like a baby squirrel in distress,read directions} . Makes other squirrels, bark & wheeze, giving away their position. If you have to walk towards him/them, do it slowly. 22LR w/scope most fun.
If Mr. B's doesn't work alone, stoop/kneel down next to a small,short {4'-5' high} maple tree, with Mr. squirrel in one hand, bend & slap the leaves of the maple on the ground sounding like a hawk/owl's wings swooping/swooshing through the air /hitting the ground, while blowing the Mr. B's correctly according to the directions. Sounds like a baby squirrel being attacked/murdered & sets off the other squirrels to start alert barking. Then, find that barking squirrel with your eyes for movement & ears for location slowly. {if he stops barking, & you loose him, start the Mr.B's again, if nothing, then barking yourself to set him off again.
No success???? Move to the next area slowly. Start the whole "still hunt" scenario again, first quietly/looking etc.
Note: that next area doesn't have to be that far away. 50 yards is good.

I've been hunting squirrels for over 30 years and all I've ever done was take two quarters and just rub them together and it will call most of them out to reveal their location. I've been sitting at the base of a big oak tree only to get up after rubbing the quarters together and find that they were two squirrels 20-foot above me I had no idea they were there so it definitely works

I have family squirrels living above my Room.. I don't use quarters I just tap on the wood like doing a drum roll and she knows exactly what it is and she comes of gets the mix nuts from the dish and milk. That's the other dish She knows I'm the one that takes care of her an her babies too..
Is a trip at 1st she was hungry with her youngsters and needed help so I started helping..her..an now its clockwork everyday.. She relies on me now I'm her keeper an provider I feel like I'm the squirrels whisper..

The Indians of Arizona & new Mexico invented very amazing gadgets to imitate mating calls of wild animals. They helped to hunt all year round.
