I remember around 20 years ago using a 1984 F150 2wd with the 300-6, T18 4 speed manual and 3.08 axle pulling a 16 foot 2 axle trailer with a 1986 E250 with an 18” tall pile of broken Sheetrock inside the E250. Across the scale it was really close to 11,000 pounds. It was really working that 300-6 hard.

That's funny, I had an 82 4x4 with 300 and 4 spd. It was the best all around truck I ever had. And I've had a few of them. I used to tell people if I can get it to roll, I'll get it there. Believe it or not 24 mpg empty on the highway was a regular thing

I just ran across your video. Wherever you live they pay good! That IS about a $200 load here plus they don't help you unload and they want everything in separate piles. Wheels here, pipe there etc. If they find that you goofed and put something in the wrong pile they consider the entire load contaminated and pay much less.

I'm just going to stockpile my non ferrous metals for now. We will see what it goes back up to in a few months.

I don’t know what type of pricing rate
that you received but I think that you
did well on that trip. I’m just seeing
your video but I would have guessed
$125.00 and that was stretching it to
the very max. At the very beginning I
figured that the three boilers would
have been separated from the other
metals and fetched a different rate
price. I believe that you did very well
there on that load. I don’t know if you
have a job or not but if you haul like
that even once a week or a minimum
of three times a month you would be
doing very well. I haven’t sold a scrap
load here in the JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI
area in a year or two and I have sold
scrape metal throughout the year season
in and season out and never 👎 ever
yeald that much. I sold a 70s model
big Thunderbird in the summer and got
$505.00 and I thought that I was on top
of the world 🌍. I also sold some old freezer coolers with the sliding top doors
where you reach in and get a cool pop or cold sode water out of when I was a mear
lad and yes I did say sode water. In the
old country stores rite off the Hwy. Back
then those freezers had number #2 cooper
lines running through all four corner walls.
That’s two separate scrap metals to sell after separating them. If you can get it on the regular a man or woman can do well just selling scrap metal.
    Congratulations 🎊 on that sell.

The amount of time invested , the amount of work to separate everything down to a specific load , the amount of work and time to load just that specific short iron , the amount of time and work involved to pick it up and bring it home to sort it all out and unload it in a stockpile to keep adding to it to make a good load then the time and work to reload up all your saved short iron and to take it to the scrap yard including the wear & tear on your truck & trailer plus your cost in gas to pickup , separate , load & unload every time to accumulate a good load you have to hand load then drive it to the scrap yard to get paid !! Makes one wonder if all that multiple work and all the time involved to collect a good load to drive it into the scrap yard is really worth it all to survive on and pay all your bills plus make some sort of profit ??? Is it all really worth it to live on ??? Then pay all your bills and expenses and try to save a little money and to support your family on that ??? I love how people are nagging him saying that the truck won’t hold up to treating it like that. Dude, no automaker would ever sell any car, if it wasn’t capable of flooring it. I don’t understand how it’s so hard for people to understand that it’s not a bad thing to floor the engine. It has the redline for a reason, you can spin it to redline and it will be fine, you can be flooring it down the interstate and it will be fine, engines especially in heavy duty trucks are designed to handle the full throttle. I have a little itty bitty r 1500 with the 4.7 v8 in it and I was floored at about 4500 rpm for around 75 miles straight and it runs fine. If the engine couldn’t handle the redline, then the redline would be lower now wouldn’t it…. If anything, higher rpm means high oil pressure which is good, and more cylinder heat, which is also good for keeping carbon build up away. People need to understand you can drive your shit hard, just take care of it, the 6.2 is one of fords best engines ever and no slouch while doing so

    • @Adventureswithmike1

Exactly, this truck has 217k miles And it's been a work truck, it's whole life. Pouring heavy trailers loaded with tools hydraulic lifgate on the back.. And it has been die hard reliable. Only oil changes every 4000 miles.

It demand and the mills operate on a preorder basis. So if orders are not up to snuff they dial back preduction so they dont have product sitting there rusting. But they always try to get top dollar for new product while trying to beat scrap(yards) dealers out of whatever they can. Its the mills that determine what the dealers can pay for scrap. Its mostly based on market forecast. Its basicly a good ol boy club and the mills are all in on it.

Short steel and prepared is different and then cast iron pieces they would not go as regular steel they would actually be cheaper than steel so if you came in a scrap yard with the cast iron mixed with the short iron rims that's the first mistake second is some of them pieces can't be prepared or short still because it's not under 3 feet long by 20 in wide scrap yards love it when a guy comes in like that doesn't properly separate their steel and unloads it all at once. but they ain't going to give you short steel price they're going to give you a mix price at best if not give the worst price due to the cast iron being mixed in there because with what you're saying is considered short still but actually it would be prepared and it's not even cut to the right length. Next time unloaded separately or have it prepared better and never mix your cast iron with the regular steel cuz even if they sit there and say yeah you got short still they're not going to mention the fact that they're not going to pay you full short price when it's mixed. Then you got your scrap yards that play the $2,240 lb is a ton which would be your metric ton and then you got your regular ton which is 2,000 lb makes a ton. Now motor blocks as long as the pans are off of them transmissions in rear ends usually you can get short price for but that's because there's better stealing them and if you get the old motors from the 1960s they got nickel in them they'll be marked and those are worth way more than short steel. Same thing with aluminum you got your sheet aluminum your extrusion your cast your cans and I think what's called 315 or something like that 353 I forget what they call it now but an aluminum rim is worth more than any other aluminum cuz it's a special aluminum except for if you don't take the lead weights off and the rubber plugs and it's going to be considered dirty.another thing people don't realize that scrap yards will get you real quick if you don't separate your yellow brass from your red brass and when it comes to copper if you have copper bright versus regular copper you definitely want to separate your copper bright cuz it's worth probably an extra 20 cents a pound more which would come out of older copper motors. You also called tin different from short steel you can have short still long still cast iron and tin are all different classifications tin is is what has to do with the difference of thickness otherwise you have long iron which is worth more than tin but less than short iron although if you bring a lot of steel in you can actually cut 10 down too short iron size and they will call it prepared and give you short iron price. And if you're getting paid by the gross ton that means they consider a ton 2,240 lb instead of 2,000 lb which is another scrap yard trick for people ain't used to taking it in. I used to pull two to three loads of scrap in per day and I've scrap metal since I was 18 I'm Now 46 almost and I've never seen such a video was so much Miss terminology and off on size dimensions when talking about short compared to Long iron and steel compared to tin I mean I made the same mistake the first month that I started scrapping. that was when I was 18 but it didn't take me very long to figure out to start separating my steel even if it's all on the same load I would go back and reweigh the short from the long iron and in reweigh the cast iron separate also so basically you had 3 different steel prices but you unloaded all in 1 1 so you did not get top price guaranteed and they're screwing you 240 lb per ton if you're getting paid by the gross ton. Although I have noticed the last couple years more scrap yards happened pulling that gross ton on people but somebody like me that walks in there I'll call them out right away and tell them it's 2,000 lb a ton I've been doing this for too long and they'll pay me the same price for 2,000 lb being a ton because that's the regular ton or standard Ton whichever terminology you want to use. Also because the price of scrap runs up and down as a filler orders always check what the other scrap yards are paying because they'll get an order for so many tons and it'll pay that much per ton but as soon as they fulfill their amount of tons that's when the scrap price changes. Another way to get more for your scrap is if you're taking in multiple loads everyday and you know the scrap prices around and you just straight up tell him hey do you want me to bring all my business here or should I take it to whoever's the highest of the day and usually that scrap yard will if they're good scrap yard they will match any other scrap yards price. The thing is 70% of the scrap yards pull dirty tricks so you precise with what you're doing before you get in there. That guy sure is rough too unloading that trailer some guys can pull that scrap off like picking up an egg and not breaking it and other guys will screw up the leaf springs on your truck and tear up your trailer.

    • @Adventureswithmike1
      @Adventureswithmike1  ปีที่แล้ว

I can't believe I had to sit down and read your whole rant.. Is someone to keep my reply short.. All the steel I brought in was under 5' long and 2' wide which is what my scrapyard considers sure.. And they don't pay any different price because it's mixed with cast. And the scrap yard I go to is one of the highest paying around. And I'm on dealer pricing which is a $100 plus a ton more than an average person would get.. And that number goes up more as the price is higher.. And as for the gross ton verse net ton.. What does it matter most yards if they charge 8 cent a pound pound per net tone.. And another place is 9.5 cents per gross ton it makes It doesn't make as much difference as you think. They sort everything out. Because different Mills want different things.. Like I said you're arguing about things just for the sake of arguing

Don't think there it's a problem Being that they're set up that way they are actually very stable when loaded going down the road... @Richard Raucina Yeah there's also a bigger problem bigger problem see you want a minimum of 10% tongue weight so if you're towing 10k That would mean you need a 1000 pounds of tongue weight. Most 3/4 ton trucks The hitches aren't rated that high some are but most aren't. So when you have a trailer with the axles towards the middle it causes a Teeter tottering effect To wear a trailer with the axles towards the back we'll oscillate forward to back as much.. While towing...
