There is no both sides in this instance. Currently we do not have a majority in the House. Biden is not running for re-election. He is doing everything to bring peace, but then we have Trump directly calling a far right leader further obstructing the process, quid-pro-ing AGAIN for his own political gain, and committing yet another crime. We are 70 days until the most important election of our country’s history. Even if Harris plans to take a stronger stand against Netanyahu, this is NOT a time for her to do anything, as SHE is not in power. While I fully support these protesters cause, they are going to cost us the ability to do ANYTHING because THEY will cost us our slim chance to regain control of the House AND the Senate. They can easily throw this election to Trump, thanks to our draconian electoral college system. Acting out in this crucial time, DEMORALIZES the very volunteers working every day 24/7 to help Dems win this election. Was in the audience. So impressed with how he handled the protesters. He did the best to respect them but also keep the show moving. Very mixed feelings about this one. (1) lots of respect for colbert that he not only let the protests be heard but also repeated the followup about arms without any kind of reframing, full well knowing that that would put Pelosi out of the comfort zone of agreeable talking points. (2) Pelosis answer to the first question was fair but indeed unsatisfying because it's evading the core question of arms delivery (3) on the other hand, it most certainly is not in Pelosis interest to have Netanjahu continue with his unspeakable cruelty. Based on that assumption and knowing Pelosi to be an experienced strategist, it kind of follows that shes probably calculating that it's best to hold your cards close to the chest, if you will. Who knows what kinds of pressure they are applying to Netanjahu behind the scenes. Or not. But I'd really be surprised if they were not, because even assuming a cynical 100% self interest , even from such a position of self interest, an interest in ending these atrocities still logically follows. Oh well. For the moment, thank you colbert for handling this with decency instead of shouting "someone show those terrorist supporters the door" or similar dishonest BS like we've heard in so many places lately. And yeah, all pro Palestine people hopefully realize that still, for an actual chance for peace, the dems must win at all costs. Trump is a million times worse on this matter. And both Harris and Walz have signaled a much more critical view of this horrible subject compared to Biden. In not too subtle ways. As non subtle as they can without supplying the GOP with a chest full of dishonest talking points that could cost the election (and with that, any chance for peace in the middle east whatsoever).
I have legit seen video of some of the protestors saying they prefer a Trump Presidency so "democrats can know next time to listen to them" and it's just an incredibly self defeating and self destructive messaging from them.
You should show terrorist sympathizers the door. Your opinion is silly and you write so much without saying anything. Good luck with your mixed feelings. I don’t have mixed feelings on showing support for anti-Semites, hypocrites and those who hide behind children. There are 2 million + children in the USA living with food insecurity. Most are BIPOC. Why don’t you care about that real systemic injustice that’s a lot closer to home?
Love your response, but in particular how you point out what is awaiting the Palestinians and Israel should Trump win. The pro-Trump Jews & anti-Biden pro-Palestine individuals are so blinded by an illusion that will blow up in their face, in epic proportions, should Kamala lose. Pelosi doesn't always give the answers people want to hear but this woman is a master strategist. What she does behind the scenes is worth a million times more than the words she speaks in public. Protest is important, but let's not lose sight of the fact that effective action in geopolitical matters often takes place behind closed doors, not on auditorium stages.
The issue is, most of the time people don't want actual solutions, they want tweets. You can say "we are working on a ceasefire to bring an end to the conflict" but that's not what they actually want, they want you to say "this side is terrible terrible bad awful". Nobody likes to hear about progress made behind the scenes, they want instant gratification now.
Thing is. I know people are passionate about this. Yes, lives are on the line. But some, especially the younger ones, don’t realize that most of the immediate and fast “solutions” end up with way more death than the right solutions. Historically, in that part of the world, that always was the case. Why would it be different, this time? And, going forward, I expect some issues will be especially a little more tricky given the way 45 betrayed the Kurds. (A lot of U.S. Citizens were and still are quite steamed about that)
Working in politics is an understanding you're not going to make everyone happy especially with those who place emotion above nuanced thinking about the issues.

Kudos to you Stephen Colbert and to you Madame Speaker, for listening to diverging view points and responding to their concerns. You are both excellent leaders!
I think the Speaker does also deserve some recognition for that. There are a lot of politicians who would fully refuse to engage with the protester, even if the host asked them to. I also want to point out that she gave her position, which she knew wouldn't appease that protester. She softened it a little bit ("Israel has the right to defend itself"), but she didn't lie about what her position is or has been, or what Israel has done and continues to do.

Srephen showed a tremendous amount of respect towards the protestor, and I'm grateful that he asked Nancy about the war. But I'm not really satisfied with where they ended the conversation. Israel is defending land that they stole. When do Palestinians have the right to defend themselves?

You can also do the same for competitive Senate races in MT and OH so that Democrats keep control of the Senate and appoint new Supreme Court justices.

Also, without her the ACA never would have passed. It was on life support despite huge Dem majorities in both chambers. She kept Trump on as short a leash as possible in the modern era of the imperial presidency. She skillfully handled both impeachments knowing the Senate would never convict but she did not shy away from the fight. And again like in 2008-09, when COVID hit, she made sure American families received government aid. She has passed the torch to Jeffries but remains the eminence gris. She demurred, but there's been enough reporting to believe she was instrumental in pushing Biden to his reluctant decision. Agreed. A two state solution is not a reality at this point. What's left of the West Bank is non-contiguous enclaves that can't truly be administered, and Israel polices much of the land. It's partly because of the peace accords in '93 and the non stop settlers which makes the two state solution an impossibility. The Palestinian Authority also has it's share of blame but I feel Israel shoulders most of it. And most western countries turned a blind eye to the settlers illegally taking land from the West Bank.

We don't have underground palaces waiting for us to flee to, just like the Palestinians don't have a choice as their homes are being turned to rubble and their communities are slaughtered. As an online viewer, Colbert is cool, calm, and collected and quite courteous to both his guests and the protesters. I can appreciate his response and how he does want to hear from both sides...as it should be. Well done!
It also depresses turnout for those who are not paying attention to the news and aren’t engaged in politics 24/7. It’s absolutely ridiculous to do ANYTHING other than be CIVIL. Demonstrating as a peaceful protest is different than creating civil unrest.
Stephen is so incredibly professional. Respecting the protests while still managing to keep things honest and on track. Major respect for that.
Stephen has more poise and professionalism than 90% of the mainstream new media - and credit to his crew and producers too for not just calling security and having them yanked out of the theater. The cable new companies should be taking notes.

Was in the audience. So impressed with how he handled the protesters. He did the best to respect them but also keep the show moving.
I think it was really important, while I found Pelosi/Jeffries’ responses a little too weak for my taste, was that they heard an audience of thousands clap and cheer anytime a ceasefire or an arms embargo was mentioned. I truly believe that with enough pressure, our voices will be heard.
Thank you Stephen and team for creating this great show and making a space for us to confront our leaders with what we desire 🇺🇸
It would be nice if the audience cheered and clapped so much about the notion of the hostages being returned.
I gotta ask, what is a "strong" answer to you? Though I'm disgusted with the level of response of the Israeli government. Fact is that Hamas struck first. @@SRosenberg203 maybe the audience can do simple math and they’re not supremacists like yourself. Everyone wants innocents to be safe. I dig the way Steven handles the Guest, Protester and commercial with maturity and dignity. Colbert could be a great choice for Presidential debate.
Very mixed feelings about this one.
(1) lots of respect for colbert that he not only let the protests be heard but also repeated the followup about arms without any kind of reframing, full well knowing that that would put Pelosi out of the comfort zone of agreeable talking points.
(2) Pelosis answer to the first question was fair but indeed unsatisfying because it's evading the core question of arms delivery
(3) on the other hand, it most certainly is not in Pelosis interest to have Netanjahu continue with his unspeakable cruelty.

Historically, in that part of the world, that always was the case. Why would it be different, this time?

The ongoing problem is that Netanyahu has never wanted a two state solution. He has made it clear for decades now that he doesn't really want peace.
Agreed. A two state solution is not a reality at this point. What's left of the West Bank is non-contiguous enclaves that can't truly be administered, and Israel polices much of the land. It's partly because of the peace accords in '93 and the non stop settlers which makes the two state solution an impossibility. 40,000 dead people? where is their respect?
@@daquidiProtesters are not hecklers. Not the same thing at all. I thought both Stephen and Nancy handled the situation gracefully. 💖💙
Hecklers? you should be ashamed of yourself
Nancy P was at Kennedy's inaugaration? Dang, she's old - but looks so good for her age
Those protester might have a talk with Trump since the news are saying he told the Prime Minister not to sign the next ceasefire deal because it would benefit him if the deal is not signed ..
Just like Reagan and Iran. Just like Nixon and North Vietnam.
These protesters are cowards. Democrats are soft targets for protests. Trump rallies not so much. That's why you'll never see them interrupt a Trump or Vance speech.
Facts!!! I was thinking the same thing
The perfect seems to be the enemy of the good more often than not. Pragmatism is important.
Democrats can be shamed into doing something, Republicans can't. That's why.
I admire how Pelosi was able calmly articulate how the US is committed to the two state solution. End the violence. Help Israel feel safe being Israel and help Palestine feel safe being Palestine.
Stephen is such a class act
Wow very nicely handled Stephen ! Even if her answer was typical politics 🙄 sigh the issue is not an easy one and that was masterfully handled sir !
I didn't even think I could love Stephen Colbert more than I do but the way that he handled those protesters was beautiful and should set an example for all people with the platform! Nancy, the whole propaganda of Isr@3l is just defending itself is just fodder at this point.
Amazing little interview Steven and team. Great content, greatly handled, Nancy has clear words. I agree we need overall peace in the world.
We love you Stephen!!
Colbert is a man of heart! ❤
I wish americans were as upset when Iraq was occupied by the US and over 100,000 civilians died during that time 😢.
Terrorist organisation perpetrates violent act against a country. Said country engaged in a campaign to "wipe out" said organisation leading to mass civilian casualties, displacement and international condemnation. As applicable in 2001 as it is now. How little the world has learned...
Me too. I marched my ass off during that time in many protests. I didn't agree with it then and I don't agree with this crap either. I am against the military industrial complex!
And Bush didn't even get a slap on the wrist. Then eventually became a "cute, funny" media darling.
...I mean we were? We protested like crazy back then. What we didn't do is harass an ethnic minority because we were angry at Bush. But we sure as hell DID protest.
Post-9/11 paranoia was a very rampant back then. People rallied around the flag after the attacks and Bush used that unity to wage opportunistic wars. Most Americans believed Bush's lies. Things are different now.
God I love this guy, smooth bro. Class act.
I love how Stephen encourages Ms. Pelosi to address the concerns of the protestors, and for the protestors so not disrespect Ms. Pelosi. What a gentleman for seeing both sides and giving voice to both sides in a difficult interview.
“Please don’t interupt my guest.” Well said and classy, Stephen!
Nancy Pelosi!!! THANK YOU. Tip O'Neill was a great mentor!!
Stephen Colbert could teach politicians a thing or two about listening to protesters imo
Whoa Stephen. That was cool
There is no ceasefire and ending the war agreement. Israel doesn’t want to end the war.
The art of abuse of Power should be the title...
Thank you, Stephen ❤
Her little laugh at the end was genuinely adorable!
Yes, Madam Speaker the Governor was wonderful today! ❤
B.S. answer on the Gaza slaughter. 👎
This was masterfully handled, Stephen! Thank you for using your platform to give Gaza a voice.
Love Nancy. One smart cookie.
She cannot even bring herself to say Palestine and she's talking about supporting a 2-state solution. What a load of BS and hypocrisy.
Well done to balance respect for your guest and their time, along with the concern of the audience member(s?) who interrupted the interview.
We love you, Nancy VOTE 💙💙💙💙
