    Wow!!!! This kit is going to be so incredible!!! I remember when I came over for a visit last fall you mentioned someone was going to try and make the computer screens look like they did in the movie. I think that turned out successful!! That looks amazing Lou!! I'm going to have to see this one in person (please). The size of the pod is pretty amazing and like you said leaves room for the light circuits and batteries if need be. Simply amazing!!!

    Hi Lou thank you so much for getting back to me regarding the monitors on the 2001 1/8 scale EVA pod , I did find someone who makes an updated version on all of the monitors , as a matter of fact he actually makes all six monitors for the EVA pod , his name is Carl Darby and he has a site on Facebook called Space Modeling , and his price is really not so bad considering you're getting six monitors and everything to make them work , I did contact him through Facebook and he's thinking about making another batch of monitors but he needs 10 orders or more to make it worth his while , so far with my order he only has seven , he does have a site and a video I think when you two showing these monitors working , he did have to make an improvement on the one because it kept flickering and I guess he got that straightened out , so if you're interested login on facebook at either searches name or space modeling and contact him , let me know how you make out and hopefully he can get enough orders to make another batch of monitors for the EVA pods , once again thank you so much Lou for getting back to me I greatly appreciate it Charlie

    Very good but sudden start! I too wonder about not doing the interior panels in clear but I think the thinking behind using "white yet see-through enough" styrene (ABS?) is to allow basic painting and yet a simple light somewhere will get enough of the job done. Sort of like the Enterprise TOS inscribed hull lines -- in order to help every range of modeler. Okay-- and your masking kit is working wonders at making that happen.
    Not sure if using warm white strips and applying Tamiya clear colors from behind (or front?) is the way to go. Lots of fiddling around for light blocking "walls."
    Your bud's OLED screens are mind-bending-- only trouble is that with that part so astonishing-- one is grit-toothed at having to stop there. But one can just see the tech problem. And, if that's not bad enough, one of the screen's corners goes right up to a "bend" in the paneling. Well, here's my "solution": find the right size of fiber optic strand (.5mm?) gather them neatly in an array that fits into the pair of openings, glue them all together in that array -- one array per screen - then run the other end down to the faces of the same set up of OLED screens that you are currently using. IF you can get a size of fiber optic that comes pretty close to the size of the OLED pixel, you should get a (roughly) one-to-one transfer of image. This is how flexible shaft bore-scopes work for "inside the wall" inspection scopes work (plus a lot of other stuff-- maybe one needs a super-fine gathering of FO, but both ends have to be pretty close in 'agreement' of one end to the other.) What this ridiculous arrangement does, is to allow both those in-cabin monitors to be driven by two monitors that are farther apart. Cumbersome, expensive and even difficult-- but that's modern day modeling, eh?
    The other solution if for a way to "extend" the wiring harness that connects the little monitor to the driver. If that's possible, that's a way. Your extra wide idea sounds fine, but one has to work with what's out there. There should be one large monitor that will cover both openings-- if your pal can minimize the construction rails (those green thingies on the bottom) then, it might just fit. Then making a new file with both displays running may be tedious but possible. All hail to your friend in this endeavor!
    Also distantly possible is the use of a keychain jpeg picture monitor. I say "something" is better than having a full-color, full-motion display and then decals. Maybe!
    More troublesome to me is whether those decals will wrap down around the buttons! That I want to see. That fine white line looks like trouble with a capital T. Would vinyl masking that fine be possible? (More Trouble!) Speaking of decals, I think they "cheated" by making all the Letraset hull stencils "blurred out" -- or was that your camera not focusing on them? Blurred greeking. (You had a brief "drift by" of a remarkable full-scale Pod at your recent con-- some of those stencils were legible. I believe i read a LONG time ago, that fellow Dennis (last name indistinct enough for me to not risk putting it down) - a major collector and re-creationist of things 2001 -- had claimed that when you saw a fresh print under a microscope, you could read those stencils. Or was it the YCM inter-negs? Whichever, the information is out there somewhere. Now is it where we can find it?)
    Been waiting 50 years for this kit-- but gotta say might have to wait a few more for various tech problems to be solved. (I know, alright I'm fussy.) Plus I have my own scratchbuilt that just needed some time for materials and methods to advance. Might be time to dig that out of mothballs.

    Next time you have the door off, try a little graphite from a 2B (or so) pencil on the door track. White Tac (like blu tac - but white) might be good to jam up the arms to allow posing, and still be fairly invisible...

    good morning Lou , I found Carl Darby on Facebook on his website Space Modeling , and according to him if he can get 10 orders or more he's going to make another batch of monitors for the EVA pods , and the reason he needs 10 orders for more is to keep his costs down which also keeps the price down for customers , right now he has seven orders so I'm even hoping that he gets more orders to make it worthwhile for him to come out with more monitors ,

      Some scale plane and helicopter builders use a digital picture keyring. Disassemble it and build it into a panel in a cockpit. The keyrings change pictures so you can have all sorts of pictures from multi-displays from real airplanes. And the keyrings are cheap - just google it.

    how's everything going Lou ? I was just watching this video regarding the 1/8 scale EVA pod , I haven't got around to starting my project until I have everything I need , but now I am very interested in the working monitors for the EVA pod , so my question to you is who makes these ? And how can I get a set of these monitors put into my EVA pod ? I tried searching the Internet and I come up with nothing so if you could help me out with the information I would greatly appreciate it and I imagine a lot of other people out there also appreciate where they can obtain the working monitors for Mobius 1/8 scale EVA pod ? I do want to thank you for making your videos they are very informative and very educational and they help out tremendously when taking on a similar project , it helps a lot to let someone know what's involved and what to do when building a scale replica model such as this and for that thank you so much Charlie

      Charlie, my buddy - who I got mine from - has opted to not go forward with making a product out of these monitors. Which bums me out because I've got another kit in the stash. I heard tell of a gent on facebook who is making monitors, but I am not on facebook. give it a google search and see what comes up

    Hi Lou, thanks for the inspiration to build my own EVA Pod, question what white final coat did you use vallejo white? as this seems a bit off white to me. And varnish final coat you used? i.e. Vallajo statin or gloss finish? thanks for your time.

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      best I recall it was Tamiya white and then a semi gloss (or satin) clear finish.
      the biggest problem is making sure your airbrush is spotless! any old flakes of paint sputtering out will ruin the white finish.
      if you are a really brave person, you can also use a spray can of appliance touch up paint for that fresh out of the factory look. but spray it where no dust can get on it
